JACKSONVILLE JUMBO SHRIMP GAME NOTES Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (20-29) at Mississippi Braves (22-27) Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp – Double-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins Proud Member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Southern League Champions 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014 Sunday May 27, 2018 – 2:00 p.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. CT Trustmark Park – Pearl, Mississippi Shrimp: RHP Brett Graves (0-0, 0.00) vs. Braves: RHP Elian Leyva (2-0, 4.96) Game #50 – Road Game #30 (12-17) Last Game: The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (20-29) fell to the Mississippi Braves (22-27) by an 8-4 score in the fourth game of the five-game series at Trustmark Park on Saturday night. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Cody Poteet (2-5) suffered his second straight loss, working two and two-thirds innings where he allowed a season- high seven runs (all earned) on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Mississippi right-handed starting pitcher Andres Santiago (3-0) earned the victory with seven innings of work where he allowed a run on five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. The M-Braves started the scoring in the first with a two-run double by Tyler Marlette to lead 2-0. Mississippi added a run when an error by Jacksonville shortstop Mason Davis brought home Travis Demeritte to put the lead at 3-0. Mississippi doubled the lead in the next inning, with Luis Valenzuela hitting an RBI double before Tyler Neslony’s two-run double put the lead at 6-0. After Alex Jackson started the third inning with a double, Luis Marte brought him home on an RBI single two batters later to grow the lead to 7-0. Monte Harrison got Jacksonville on the scoreboard to lead off the fourth inning, as he blasted his seventh home run of the season over the center field wall to put the score at 7-1. Mississippi quickly got the run back, as Marlette hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to put the Braves advantage at 8-1. Harrison drove in his second run of the game in the eighth inning on an RBI single to put the score at 8-2. Later in the inning Eric Jagielo pulled Jacksonville closer with a two-run single to put the score at 8-4, which would be the final. UPCOMING SCHEDULE AND PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS DATE OPP. TIME JUMBO SHRIMP STARTER BRAVES STARTER Sun., May 27 at MIS 2:00 p.m. ET RHP Brett Graves (0-0, 0.00 ERA) RHP Elian Leyva (2-0, 4.96 ERA) NEWS AND NOTES Graves Joins Jumbo Shrimp on Major League Rehab Assignment: Today’s Jumbo Shrimp right-handed starting pitcher Brett Graves is with Jacksonville on a transfer of a major league rehab assignment from Jupiter. Graves made two rehab starts with the Hammerheads, going 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in his seven innings of work. Graves started the season on Miami’s 60-day disabled list due to a left oblique strain. Graves pitched in three games for the Marlins during spring training before his injury. Graves was selected by the Marlins from the Oakland Athletics in the Major League phase of the 2017 Rule 5 draft. Graves has pitched above the Double-A level in his career, and he was originally selected by the A’s in the third round of the 2014 draft from the University of Missouri. The Goal? A Series Win: With the Jumbo Shrimp and M-Braves splitting the first four games of this series, today brings a rubber match to determine the series winner. This is only the second rubber match of the season for the Jumbo Shrimp, as they won their previous winner-take series Game Five on April 25 winning 4-2 over the Tennessee Smokies on the road. The Jumbo Shrimp are 4-5 in terms of series wins and losses, including a mark of 2-3 in road series so far this season. Home Run Harrison: MLB.com’s No. 1 Miami Marlins Monte Harrison has homered twice in this series against the M-Braves, and now leads Jacksonville with seven home runs this season. Harrison is tied with New Orleans’ Jonathan Rodriguez for the Marlins organizational lead in homers, and he hit 21 last year with Brewers. Norwood Streaking: John Norwood carries a seven-game hitting streak into today’s game against the M-Braves. Over his streak, Norwood is hitting .391 (9-for- 23) with five runs batted in (all during this series). Norwood has hit safely in eight of the last 10 games, and is hitting .313 with 7 RBI in the past 10 games. Gotta Southern League Player of the Week: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp outfielder Cade Gotta has been named the Southern League Player of the Week for May 14-20, announced by the league office on Monday morning. Gotta over the past week hit .423 (11-for-26) with eight extra-base hits, five runs batted in, four doubles, three triples (in three consecutive games from May 14-16), a home run, three walks, and seven runs scored. Over the past week, Gotta led the league in extra-base hits (8), total bases (24), triples (3), slugging percentage (.923), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.406), and was tied for the league lead in doubles (4). Gotta has continued his strong play into this series against the M-Braves going 6-for-12 with an RBI, a double, and four runs scored. Goodbye Braves: Today’s game wraps up the first of four series this season and the only one in the first half of the year between the Jumbo Shrimp and the Mississippi Braves. Jacksonville will make a return trip to Trustmark Park to begin the second half from June 21-26, and the Braves will visit Jacksonville from August 8-12 as well as the final series of the year from August 30 to September 3. Last season the Jumbo Shrimp posted a winning 12-8 record against the Braves, going 5-5 in 10 games at Trustmark Park, then going 7-3 against the Braves in Jacksonville. Shrimp Have Prospects: On the roster, the Jumbo Shrimp have five players who were listed by MLB.com as Top 30 Miami Marlins prospects for the 2018 season: OF Monte Harrison (1), Isan Diaz (7), RHP Nick Neidert (8), RHP Pablo Lopez (21), and John Norwood (30).
