Big 12 Championship Notes

 This was the 40th meeting between Baylor and TCU all-time, and the first meeting at the Big 12 Championship. Baylor now leads the all-time series 35-5, including 25 straight wins.  Baylor makes its eighth straight appearance in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship title game, winning six of the last seven years. Baylor is 8-3 all-time in the championship game, and will face the winner of Texas vs. West Virginia.  This was TCU’s first appearance in the semifinals, while Baylor has made 14 semifinal appearances (12-2), winning its last nine dating back to 2009.  No. 1 seeds are 51-8 all-time in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Championship, including a 17-4 mark in semifinal games. All-time, No. 5 seeds are 26-22 in the Big 12 Championship and 2-8 in semifinal games. The last time a No. 5 seed defeated a No. 1 seed came in 2007.  Baylor has a league-best 39-13 all-time record in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship. Prior to the loss in the 2017 title game, Baylor notched 20 straight victories in the Big 12 Championship.

Individual & Team Notes

 Baylor’s 94 points ranked second-highest all-time in a semifinal game, and ranked fourth in all championship games. Baylor’s 28 points in the first quarter tied the Big 12 Championship semifinal record for points in a quarter, set by Baylor in 2017 (vs. Kansas State). Baylor matched its halftime points from a year ago in the semifinals with 52 points, tying for third all-time in a semifinal game.  The Lady Bears also set the Big 12 Championship record for margin of victory (46), breaking the mark of 37 set by Iowa State (3/9/00 vs. Nebraska).  Baylor held TCU to five points in the third quarter,which ties for the fewest all-time points in a quarter at the Big 12 Championship. TCU’s 16 second-half points are also the second fewest all-time in a Big 12 semifinal game (15, Colorado, 3/13/03).  Baylor set the all-time Big 12 Championship record for percentage at 60 percent (36-of-60), breaking the mark set by BU in 2013 (58 percent, 36-of-62, 3/9/13).  Baylor junior Kalani Brown recorded a career-high 28 points for a Big 12 Championship game, surpassing her previous record of 26 points vs. Kansas State in yesterday’s second round matchup.  Baylor’s Kalani Brown recorded her fourth double-double all-time in Big 12 Championship play with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Brown is one of only three players in Big 12 Championship history to record multiple double-doubles in two different tournaments (, BU; , OU). She now ranks tied for fourth all-time in double-doubles in the Big 12 Championship, joining former Lady Bear Sophia Young as two of only five players to record at least four double-doubles in tournament play.  Baylor outrebounded TCU, 49-19, setting the Big 12 Championship margin record.
