Jordan Glan Llyn 2019 Between the 7th and 10th May upper school took a trip to Glan Llyn. 18 pupils and 4 staff took on the challenge of the outdoor and adventurous activities at the centre. We faced our fears, made new friends and above all had a fantastic time. The residential was organised by the North Wales Sports Association, which is represented by all North Wales special schools. Working alongside pupils from the other special schools is a great opportunity to make new friends and it is safe to say that everyone did. Our groups mixed with schools from across the region and we worked with them to take on challenges such as rock climbing, high ropes, canoeing, raft building and orienteering. We developed a skill in archery. Mr Wynne was not happy because he wanted to be the best archer – Lucy thrashed him!!! We would like to thank all the pupils for their hard work and effort over the week. They were a pleasure to take away. We are so proud of the way they overcame fears to try the many challenges. It was great to see pupils at the top of the high ropes tower looking to take a leap of faith. Those who jumped well done and those who faced fears just to stand on the edge and look down double well done. We are pleased with those young people who showed how independent they could be by always being ready and dressed correctly, having showered and attended to their personal care needs. Being away from home is a challenge and the pupils faced and conquered this side of things admirably. We are booked in for the same time next year, so if you are a pupil in year 9 or above have a look at what your school mates have said and done and think about going yourself next year!! Thank you for taking the time to look at our adventures, Mrs Craig, Mrs Manseri, Mrs Sharpe and Mr Wynne extend a great big thank you to the staff at Glan Llyn but more importantly to the pupils who joined us for making a great success of our time away. Summer 2019 Children and young people spend a lot of time online – it can be a great way for them to socialise, explore and have fun. But children do also face risks like cyberbullying or seeing content that's inappropriate. Whether you're unsure about what happens online or are up to speed with new technology, it's important that you talk to your child about staying safe. It may feel daunting, but you don't need to be an expert on the internet. Understanding what children do online and the risks they face will help you keep your child safe online. Although every child signs an Acceptable Use Policy take a minute to read through the following rules together to ensure your child is safe online. What children do online and through social Networking Children and young people go online to connect with friends, and make new ones, to browse the internet for information, chat with others and play games. They may search for information or content on search engines like Google and Bing share images and watch videos through websites or mobile apps like Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube use social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter write or reply to messages on forums and message boards play games alone or with others through websites, apps or game consoles or chat with other people through online games, game consoles, webcams, social networks and tools like Whatsapp. When online, children and young people can learn new things, get help with homework, express themselves creatively and connect with friends and family. There are also risks, but by understanding and talking about the dangers you can help keep your child safe online. Kids’ Rules for Online Safety I will tell my parents right away if I come across something that makes me 1. I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number without my parents’ permission. 2. Report to an adult if I feel uncomfortable 3. I will never agree to get together with someone I “meet” online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring a parent along. 4. I will talk with my parents about posting pictures of myself or others online and not post any pictures that my parents consider to be inappropriate. 5. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in a way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away. 6. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online and using a mobile phone. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.
