Learn to Succeed South Ribble Community Awards Last Friday evening saw the recipients of South Ribble Borough Council's Community Awards announced at the presentation ceremony in Leyland. Chosen by our pupils, Humanities teacher Miss Ackers, was one of the three shortlisted for the borough's 'Teacher of the Year' accolade. The evening was hosted by broadcasting legend and BBC North West Tonight regular, Dave Guest, at the South Ribble Conference and Business Centre on West Paddock in Leyland. Presenting the awards was Councillor Harry Hancock, the Mayor of South Ribble. Councillor Paul Foster, said: “The awards ceremony brought together the very best of South Ribble and celebrated everyone’s incredible achievements. It’s so important that we take the opportunity to highlight cases of people going the extra mile to care for their customers, pupils, employees or students. Often, these are acts of kindness and dedication which are far from required or even expected in their role; however, they do it regardless because they care deeply about the quality of their work and the happiness of the person or people on receiving end.” The award was won by Headteacher of Seven Stars Primary School in Leyland, however Miss Ackers had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, met some fabulous people and was presented with a glass trophy for her achievements. Miss Ackers commented, "The awards night was an incredible experience and I’m thankful to have gotten to the final three. The other nominees are amazing teachers and to be in the same category as them is an honour. I couldn’t have gotten this far without the students at Priory and I will do my best to continue to deliver the quality of lessons that helped me to receive this nomination. 18th September 2020 Dear Parents School and Trust Developments As many of you will already know, Tarleton Academy is the founding school of Endeavour Learning Trust, which is a family of schools across Lancashire and North Sefton. When a group of schools comes together in this way it is known as a Multi-Academy Trust, which is a charitable trust, led centrally by a core team, to enable our schools to work closely together to develop really strong strategies and practices, to the benefit of all our children, staff and families. The Trust currently includes: Burscough Priory Academy Churchtown Primary School Northbrook Primary Academy Tarleton Academy Wellfield High School In November, we are also hoping to welcome Ormskirk School. Leadership at Tarleton and across the Trust Originally I was appointed the Headteacher at Tarleton Academy in 2011. I have been humbled to be the Headteacher of this wonderful school and to play a part in the development of Tarleton to become a system leader and a flagship school across the local region. As many of you know, due to our success here at Tarleton, I then widened my role in 2017 to become the Executive Head at Tarleton and Wellfield. In January 2020 we welcomed Mr Dunne, as an experienced prior Headteacher, to add further capacity to support the Senior Leaders at Burscough, Tarleton and Wellfield as we continued to expand. We are now preparing to welcome Ormskirk to the Trust, along with our most recent addition of Northbrook Primary Academy (Leyland). Both of these schools were placed in special measures and we have been asked to support them to get better, within our Trust.
