The City of New York Queens Community Board 11 Serving the Communities of Auburndale, Bayside, Douglaston, Hollis Hills Little Neck and Oakland Gardens Christine Haider Chairperson / Joseph Marziliano District Manager COMMITTEE REPORT TO: All Board Members FROM: Transportation Committee Bernard Haber- Chair DATE: November 27, 2018 =============================================================== On Monday, November 19, 2018, at 7:30 p.m., the Transportation Committee met. Present from the Committee were Chair Bernard Haber, Board Chair Christine Haider, Third vice Chair Eileen Miller, Committee Member Ed Doster, Board Members Victor Dadras, Mary Donahue, Henry Euler, Albert Galatan, Joan Garippa, Barbara Gillespie, Roy Giusetti, John Kelly, and Allan Palzer, and District Manager Joseph Marziliano. Also in attendance were Dennis DeVoti, Deidre Bardolf, and Paul Petrone. The committee reviewed several items brought to the attention of the Board. 1-The committee reviewed the following requests approved by DOT: A- One-way conversion of 42nd Avenue between Utopia Parkway and Francis Lewis Blvd. westbound. Seeing a low response from the canvassed community (31%) and opposition from Mr. DeVoti, the committee does not recommend approval at this time. B- One-way conversion of Station Road between Utopia Parkway and Francis Lewis Blvd. eastbound. Seeing a low response from the canvassed community (18%) and opposition from local business owner Mr. Petrone, the committee does not recommend approval at this time. C- One-way conversion of 192nd Street between Francis Lewis and Northern Blvds. northbound. Seeing a low response from the canvassed community (38%), the committee does not recommend approval at this time. D- One-way conversion of 35th Avenue between 191st Street and Francis Lewis Blvd. westbound. Seeing a low response from the canvassed community (27%), the committee does not recommend approval at this time. E- Speed Hump on 32 Avenue between 210 Street and Corporal Kennedy Street. Seeing a high community response (60%) with a majority of respondents in favor, the committee recommends installation. G- Speed Hump on 57th Drive between 244th Street and 246th Crescent. Seeing a high community response (100%) with a letter of support from the Beech Hills Co-Op Board, the committee recommends installation. H- Speed Hump on 61st Avenue between 244th Street and Douglaston Parkway. Seeing a low community response (0%), the committee cannot recommend installation at this time. I- Speed Hump on 202nd Street between 32nd and 33rd Avenues. Seeing a low community response (24%), the committee cannot recommend installation at this time. J- Speed Hump on 232nd Street between 64th and 67th Avenues. Seeing a low community response (0%), the committee cannot recommend installation at this time. K- Speed Hump on Morgan Street between 41st Drive and Northern Blvd. Seeing a high community response (47%) with a majority of respondents in favor, the committee recommends installation. L- Speed Hump on Peck Avenue between 219th Street and 86th Avenue. Seeing a low community response (28%), the committee cannot recommend installation at this time. M- Speed Hump on Peck Avenue between 218 Street and Union Turnpike. Seeing a low community response (40%), the committee cannot recommend installation at this time. N- Speed Hump on Stewart Road between Kingsbury Avenue and Union Turnpike. Seeing a high community response (60%) with mixed opinions, the committee cannot recommend installation at this time. 2- Request by Christine Haider to co-name Northern Boulevard from 207th Street to the Clearview Expressway Service Road to “CW5 Howard C. Haider Way:” - Ms. Miller read the request into the minutes. - Mr. Euler stated that the Auburndale Civic association has no objections to the street co-naming. He stated that he believes it is a good idea to name that particular section after a lifelong, armed service member. - Mr. Doster stated that he supports the co-naming application. - Mr. Dadras asked what are the NYC requirements for such an application? - Mr. Marziliano stated that the requirements are that the honoree must be deceased for one year. The application must then be introduced before the City Council by the local Council Member and be passed. - Ms. Gillespie stated that this is a wonderful way to honor a veteran and she is happy to support it - Mr. Euler made a motion to approve the application, seconded by Ms. Miller. - The committee approved this proposal by a vote of 12 in favor, 0 opposed, and one abstention by Ms. Haider. Mr. Galatan made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Gillespie.
