AACTA Announces Short Film Nominees for the 4Th AACTA Awards

AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY ANNOUNCES FIRST NOMINEES FOR 4TH AACTA AWARDS The countdown to Australia’s top screen Awards has officially started, with the first nominees for the 4th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards announced today. Nominees were announced in the Best Short Animation and Best Short Fiction Film categories for the 4th AACTA Awards, which will also see Australia’s best film, television and documentaries awarded in Sydney in January 2015. Feature Films in Competition and nominees for the AACTA Award for Best Feature Length Documentary for the 4th AACTA Awards will be announced in the coming weeks, and all Feature Film, Television and the remaining Documentary nominees will be announced later in 2014. Steve Baker This year’s Best Short Animation nominees arrive at the AACTA Awards with a host of Festival screenings behind them, both national and international. The Video Dating Tape of Desmondo Ray, Aged 33 & 3/4, which screened at SXSW 2014 and St Kilda Film Festival 2014, is by writer-director Steve Baker, a previous Tropfest and AFI Award winner. This darkly funny short film portrays Raymond, a loner with a penchant for peeing in the rain, as a likeable, if not likely, dating prospect. Also funny and touching is Love In The Time Of March Madness - a ‘tall short’ about a 6’4” woman whose success on the basketball court is at odds with her luck in love. -

Beard' ABSTRACT This article explores a developing technology-the creation of digi- tal replicas of individuals, both living and dead, as well as the creation of totally imaginary humans. The article examines the various laws, includ- ing copyright, sui generis, right of publicity and trademark, that may be employed to prevent the creation, duplication and exploitation of digital replicas of individuals as well as to prevent unauthorized alteration of ex- isting images of a person. With respect to totally imaginary digital hu- mans, the article addresses the issue of whether such virtual humans should be treated like real humans or simply as highly sophisticated forms of animated cartoon characters. The Silences is a personal essay documentary about the tangled bonds, secret histories and unspoken traumas of family life that stretches from New Zealand to the Australian suburbs. It is an exploration of early childhood and the “silences” of the past that resonate in the present. It draws upon a wealth of photographs, letters, oral histories, documentary footage and clips from the filmmaker’s previous work. It unfolds a mother’s story of lost opportunities, lost love and grief; a father’s story of work, mental illness and war; and a daughter’s story of trying to piece together a more complex picture of the confusing ties of love, loss and kinship between a mother and daughter. The Art of the Episode - Beginning of the Fifth Act
The art of the episode - beginning of the fifth act. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones has begun. As a reminder: Dramaturgically speaking, this series is rather a long epic feature film and follows the corresponding rules. This structural structure is complemented by a historical drama in the tradition of Shakespeare. Therefore, Game of Thrones doesn't follow the rules of a series in which each episode must have a dramatic climax on the vertical narrative level. With this series of weekly comments on this series I complete the book "Game of Thrones sehen", published in 2017. With this eighth season the fifth act begins. Accordingly, the art of the first episode of this last season is not only to recall important aspects of the previous action after the long production and waiting period, but also to organize the necessary explicit action for the decisive fifth act. References to previous events must be included, especially to those of the first act, in this case the first and second season, which corresponds to the dramaturgical requirements of a last act of a feature film. This referential level is already established in the first scene when we observe a boy (Felix Jamieson) walking through the crowd to climb a tree to better observe the approaching troops. This scene reflects on the one hand the scene from the first season, in which Bran spotted the approaching caravan of King Robert from the lookout at Winterfell Castle. The boy's about the same age as Bran was in the first season. -

Preface By the mid 19 th Century, unable to sustain their large families during the potato famine and after years of impost by government and landlords, many Irish turned to the distant shores of Australia, the Americas, England and New Zealand, looking for a fuller life. The anniversary of the first migration of members of the Carrucan families of Fanore and Fisherstreet [Doolin], provides an occasion to honour those forebears who faced critical decisions concerning a family's survival. Bridget Carrucan was first of this family to leave the home village of Fanore, County Clare, in November 1853 Soon after her marriage in Australia, her brothers Patrick and Peter joined her and were followed by their mother after their father's death in 1862. In the 1880's, two of their great-nieces chose to migrate to the USA while a cousin, also named Bridget 1 went to South Australia. From these small beginnings a family numbering more than five thousand members has burgeoned. A tribute to the Carrucan Clan records 2 '…there is a saying in the Irish language - still spoken in the land where your forebears were born - Mura gcuirfidh tú san earrach ní bhainfidh tú san fhómhar - which can be translated - if you do not sow in the Spring you will not reap in the Autumn.' It is those forbears whom we honour and dedicate this Book.
