The ranch borders the Deerlodge National Forest and is in the foothills of the Anaconda Mountain Range. Georgetown Lake lies less than a mile east. Philipsburg is the county seat of Granite County and is named for mining engineer Philip Deidesheimer, who platted the town site near gold and silver mines in 1867. Dining, shopping and everyday amenities are available in Phillipsburg. Riddick Field, a public airport with a paved 3,600 foot runway, is nearby for convenience. The cultural center of Missoula, home to the University of Montana, is an hour northwest. Butte, Montana, lies approximately 40 minutes to the east. Both of these communities have a rich history and offer shopping, fine dining and commercial air service. REEK LOCATION AND ACREAGE REEK LOCATION Ranch Acreage & Operation: C The 2,691.7-acre Lord Ranch is an ideal mix of creek ROUT bottom, rolling grass land, sloping pivot-irrigated hay T fields and timbered ridges. The ranch shares a border with public land owned by the US Forest Service and the state of Montana. The Lord Ranch on Trout Creek has ample water rights to supply its five center pivots that ORD RANCH ON L sprinkle 580 acres as well as another 100± acres that are flood-irrigated. Four of the five pivots are gravity fed and all of the irrigation equipment is in good condition. The irrigated land is a combination of tame grass and alfalfa. The Lord Ranch offers habitat conducive for yearlings, and it would be possible to run a cow-calf operation with approximately 150 cows per year. History: The county seat of Granite County, Philipsburg has a rich history in mining and ranching. The roots of the area started as a booming mining town in the late 1800s. Its historic downtown is full of beautifully restored buildings. Today these buildings are occupied with friendly shops, saloons, and other enjoyable establishments. The dam that flooded Georgetown Flats and created Georgetown Lake commenced in the early 1890s, and was completed in 1901. Wooden flumes carried the water down the canyon to the powerhouse, which generated electricity with water wheels. Georgetown Lake is a popular recreational destination for residents of Butte, Anaconda and Philipsburg. Wildlife and Hunting: When autumn arrives, Montana prepares for hunting. Philipsburg is known for its wide array of big game. One of the most sought-after hunts the world over is that of the Bighorn sheep. Nearby Rock Creek is home to many of these spectacular animals. Licenses are available by lottery. Along with the varied terrain and habitat comes an incredible diversity of wildlife. Many species of big game animals can be found on the ranch and the surrounding national forest. An incoming owner can expect excellent big game hunting opportunities for elk, Mule deer and Whitetail deer, Black bear, mountain lion and Pronghorn antelope. Area: REEK WILDLIFE AND Philipsburg is situated 30 miles south of I-90/Montana Highway 1 on the famous Pintler Scenic C Loop, halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. The Lord Ranch is located ROUT approximately an hour away from two nearby airports, the Missoula International Airport T N (78 miles) and Bery Mooney Airport in Butte (52 miles). This area offers many outdoor O attractions year round. The Pintler Scenic Loop is a 63-mile drive that goes from Anaconda to Drummond through Philipsburg, Montana’s 1998 Tourism Community of the Year. As an alternate route to I-90, the road follows Flint Creek as it meanders through snowcapped mountains, sage-covered hills, pristine lakes and open meadows. Philipsburg lies at an elevation of 5,243 feet, and is within a 30-mile drive of two national wilderness areas. In addition to these popular winter sports, the area plays host to excellent ice fishing on Georgetown Lake, skating at the local rink, readily accessible cross- country skiing and the opportunity for dog sledding. Nearby cross- country ski trails include ungroomed trails at Georgetown Lake and Discovery Ski Area and groomed ski trails at the Mt. Haggin Nordic Ski Area. The other seasons offer just as many opportunities for the adventurer. Few of the popular area attractions include backpacking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Towering snowcapped mountains, groves of pine trees, numerous streams and lakes, and crisp air provide an unparalleled hiking experience. The Anaconda- Pintler Wilderness Area offers everything from easy overnight trips to week long adventures, including a 45-mile segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Mountain hikes can be arranged through the Chamber of Commerce or through one of the various outfitters listed in the business directory. Recreation: Climate: Granite County has some of the finest skiing and snowmobiling in The Philipsburg Valley enjoys a Montana. Discovery Ski Area has something to offer for skiers of any comfortable climate with four level. One of the fastest growing ski areas in Montana, Discovery has distinct seasons. Nearby Live Water: Georgetown Lake is a scenic destination in Montana, a popular recreation area for boating, fishing, camping and windsurfing. It is a IVE WATER L large 3,000-acre mountain lake at over 6,000 feet in elevation. The lake is surrounded by the Flint Creek Range to the north and the Pintlers to REEK C the south. At Georgetown, Lake Kokanee salmon is the most sought- after species, followed by rainbow trout. The lake has four public ROUT T boat ramps. In winter, Georgetown Lake is used for ice fishing and snowmobiling. Amenities include access to lodging, restaurants, casinos and a marina. Camping is also available around the lake at a number of national forest campgrounds. ORD RANCH ON L Flint Creek, Rock Creek, Bitterroot, Clarks Fork and the Big Hole are a few of the nearby rivers that offer excellent fishing. This area is well known as a place to toss big streamers hoping for the brown trout of a lifetime. Additionally, many of these area waters have great stonefly and caddis hatches.
