Chipperfield News Chipperfield News December 2003 Poppy Appeal 2003 Once again, on time, the weather deteriorated just as our intrepid team of collectors set out, but undeterred they have all done splendidly (though several were disappointed in the response to their charm offensive) and I am most grateful to the new recruits for filling gaps. Congratulations to Sylvia Brewerton, Helen Harmer, Julia Huskinson and Sylvia Oliver on 20 years service! 1 shall have the pleasure of presenting them with tokens of appreciation from the Legion. Many thanks to all the pubs, shops and businesses who displayed boxes - especially Peter Bone at the Royal Oak and Andrew Miles and his staff at Wyevale Garden Centre for record collections - and to the meticulous team of wranglers who counted the takings superbly. To my delight, we have increased our total by 10% - to £2,787; perhaps the news from Iraq has reminded people of the continuing need for the Legion's work, whether or not they agreed on the justification for that war. There is no doubt that it is a struggle to keep up interest in the Legion as the numbers of people who remember the Second World War - the last which really affected everybody in this country - are steadily diminishing. The Legion's leaflets make it clear that there is still a need and that their work is vital. In supporting them we are in a small way paying our debt to those who suffered or died for our freedom. Anne Wyburd Honorary Appeal Organiser Chipperfield Post Office And Stores No, it is NOT going to be closed down. However, I cannot emphasise enough that it is a case of USE IT OR LOSE IT. For all our benefit, listed below are a few transactions that you can use the Post Office for. Despite all the publicity and fear of the benefits being paid into banks, this is NOT true. You can still get your cash from the Post Office. Please talk to me for guidance. If you bank with Barclays. Lloyds TSB, Cahoot or Co-op, then you can get cash, deposit cash/cheques at the Post Office without any charge or commission. You can get foreign currency and travellers' cheques from the Post Office (allow ?-3 days to order). Obtain your travel insurance cover immediately; Chipperfield being an online office can issue your policy straight away. Get your E11 l forms (for medical needs in Europe) from us. Renew your TV licence. Pay your gas, BT or electricity bills. National savings accounts where deposits/withdrawals can be made over the counter. Buy Premium Bonds, Children's Bonus Bonds etc. Finally, don't forget the shop, as the one cannot survive without the other. The shop sells anything from shoelaces to greetings cards, newspapers, fresh fruit and vegetables, off-licence and many, many more convenience items. You can also do your own photocopying and arrange for prescriptions to be sent direct to Chipperfield for collection. So please remember USE IT OR LOSE IT. 1 cannot imagine our village without the local Post Office and Store. Bipin Pathal- Sub postmaster, Chipperfield Post Office Farewell To Peter And Mary Fox This month Chipperfield will be saying farewell to Peter and Mary Fox. They moved from Croxley Green into The Briars in Croft Lane 18 years ago and since then have played a most active part in village life. 1 / 3 Both have made a major contribution to St Paul's Church, where Peter has served both as Treasurer and Churchwarden and where Mary was very much involved in the reestablishment of the Mothers Union and the running of the regular monthly service for mothers and toddlers. They both helped couples getting married with Marriage Preparation Classes. Mary is a highly skilled flower arranger and organised last year's wonderful Flower Festival at St Paul's. Outside the Church, the Foxes will be missed by many others. These include all those served by Chipperfield Care, for which they have both been loyal members since it was formed, the Chipperfield Choral Society, where Mary sang, and by those in the village with relatives or friends being cared for at Croxley House, which Peter continued to serve in many ways after they had moved away from Croxley Green. We wish both Peter and Mary well as they move down to Devon to be near their family and thank them for all they have done in their time in the village. David Nobbs Au Revoir From Tony And Margaret Tony and Margaret Rance are on the move to pastures new in Scotland. After 40 happy years in Chipperfield, where we have made many friends, we will be taking a lifetime of memories with us. As we still have family reasonably close, we will be visiting from time to time, so maybe this should just be au revoir. Some Stress Relief For You And Your Pets! I suppose I've always had an interest in alternative therapies, as a child I used to collect minerals and semi- precious stones not realising their healing properties. When my horse was diagnosed with arthritis a few years ago his recovery was helped by a homeopathic vet and Reiki treatments. In fact all my pets wear magnotherapy collars, which help a range of ailments including arthritis, skin disorders, it even helps my nervous cat! I decided to become a therapist myself and currently offer Reiki and Crystal therapy treatments, plus 1 am also a distributor for Bioflow© magnotherapy products. We all seem to live such busy lives, so what better way to de-stress and unwind with a Reiki or Crystal treatment? After a treatment it will leave you feeling relaxed and in many cases your aches and pains completely gone. Each treatment lasts approximately one hour and, as I live in Bovingdon. I offer a fully mobile service for the surrounding villages, so you don't even have to take a step out of your own front door! t also offer treatments for horses and have known it to help many issues including behaviour problems and can help to assist healing after an accident or illness. So perhaps if you are feeling stressed about Christmas or even stuck for gift ideas then why not treat yourself, a friend or relative, plus not forgetting your beloved horses and pets too!!! For further information please contact me - Lora Burrowes on 01442 831601 Mobile: 07786 784190 A New Local Cattery Has Opened Templepan Boarding Cattery is a new purpose-built cattery only 5 minutes from Chipperfield and Sarratt, located at Chandlers Cross. Clair and Deborah Hubble are very proud of their family-run cattery and are going to make the cats stay over Christmas a special one. With the owners permission of course, we will be offering the cats home-cooked turkey, ham and beef, and (for the fish lovers) salmon, as we want the cats holiday to be a special one. For more details telephone: 01923 261146 The Leatham Family Readers may recall an article in the May issue of Chipperfield News offering a house swap with the Leatham family in Australia. We are pleased to announce that Pat (who was born in Queen Street), together with his Australian wife, Therese, and their two children, Brooke and Thomas, arrived in England in October and are staying in Kings Langley for 12 months. The English family who are involved in the house swap read the article 2 / 3 while enjoying Sunday lunch at the Windmill. We wish Pat, Therese and their family a very enjoyable stay in England. Birth Announcement To Sarah (nee Clyde) and Ivan Veall a son, Thomas Matthew born on October 9, 2003. Sarah, who used to live in Scatterdells Lane, is a former pupil of St Paul's Primary School and also of Kings Langley School. Thomas is a fourth great-grandson for Peggy Cashmore. Congratulations Congratulations to Jacky Austin, John and Eileen Foulgham's eldest daughter, who received a Ph.D from the University of Glamorgan a few weeks ago, and in early November was awarded the MBE for services to cardiac rehabilitation. Circus World Wow! What a spectacular performance was given by all 165 members of The Dance Place. Ballet, tap, modern, singing, mime, drama - everything was included in this brilliant biannual show, delivered so enthusiastically from the youngest 3 year old to the more mature in age. I particularly enjoyed watching the 50 or so children from Chipperfield and felt proud that as a village we have so many talented boys and girls. However. Chipperfield talent didn't stop at the performers but also the excellent drama sketches written and directed by Patty Ling, as well as Diana Iles who was the biggest star of the evening. She has spent most of this year engrossed in costume and set design, selecting and recording music, choreographing and directing, resulting in a truly sparkling show. If you want to know more about the classes that The Dance Place run, please contact Diana Iles on 01923-269402. Roll on the next show! Ruth Dicker Saints And Sausages Party On Friday 31 October St Paul's Church ran an `alternative' event to Halloween, our `Saints and Sausages' party. We had not run anything like this before and therefore had no idea how many children might attend or how enjoyable it would be. We needn't have wondered, or worried! Thirty-nine children attended the party. which was held in the Parish Room, and a good time was had by all (including the helpers). 'T'here were games, craft. sausage and mash and `goody hags' to go home with.

  • Green Belt Assessment for Three Rivers District and Watford Borough
Chorleywood Parcel CH7 Description Flat, open fields to the south of the inset settlement edge along Old Shire Lane, to the west of Bullsland Lane. The only development is the buildings of Bullsland Farm, which have no urbanising influence. Trees along and close to Old Shire Lane create a strong settlement edge, and the parcel abuts the extensive Philipshill Wood (an ancient woodland) to the west and further farmland to the south and east, all of which slope away relatively strongly from the plateau on which this parcel is located. Impact on contribution Purpose 1 Contribution - Check the unrestricted sprawl of large built-up areas Chorleywood is close enough to more contiguous urban development to the east to be considered to constitute part of the large built-up Significant area extending out from Greater London. The parcel is open and undeveloped, with no sense of containment from the wider Green Belt. Therefore release of the parcel would constitute significant urban sprawl. Purpose 2 Contribution - Prevent neighbouring towns merging into one another Chorleywood is not considered to be a town, and land to the south of it does not contribute significantly to the gaps between any towns. Limited – No contribution Purpose 3 Contribution - Assist in safeguarding the countryside from encroachment The parcel contains no urbanising development and has a strong relationship with the adjacent Green Belt. Tree cover along the inset Significant settlement edge limits its relationship with the urban area. Impact on adjacent Green Belt Release of the parcel would result in weaker Green Belt boundary, but there is sufficient distinction between this plateau area and the Minor valley sides to the south and east, and the woodland to the west, to limit harm to the wider Green Belt.
