Year of inauguration: The history of the region 1979 since 1793 Located in Sherbrooke, the Centre d’archives de l’Estrie covers a territory with an area of almost 10,200 square kilometres. It is part of the network of nine Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) archives centres distributed throughout Québec. Dedicated to the preservation and development of the region’s public and private archives, the Centre d’archives de l’Estrie offers researchers and the public a consultation room and efficient personnel to guide them in the use of the wide range of documents the centre holds. The oldest items date back to 1793. The Centre d’archives de l’Estrie houses: • 2045 linear metres of written documents; • 75,020 photographic documents; • 2841 sound and film documents; • 6155 cartographic documents. It should be noted that the collection also includes a financial register from Attleborough that recorded the purchases by the first United Empire Loyalists who settled in the Eastern Townships (1793-1828)..
