GOWDA, University of in order to characterize the soils coming under Alfisols of Bangalore rural district Agricultural Sciences, G.K.V.K. (Doddaballapura) of Karnataka with respect to physical and chemical properties. The BENGALURU (KARNATAKA) INDIA Email: [email protected] predominant finger millet growing area Doddaballapura of Bangalore rural district was selected for the present study. Ten surface samples (0-15cm) were collected from area and analyzed for physical and chemical properties. This study leads us to the conclusion of the nutrient’s quantity of soils of Doddaballapura taluk, Bangalore rural district, Karnataka State. Result show that overage all the soils of Doddaballapura taluk have various physical and chemical parameters. This information will help farmers to decide the problems related to soil nutrients and also amount of fertilizers to be added to soil to make production economic. Introduction adoption of high yielding varieties, continuous use of high analysis fertilizers and imbalanced use of fertilizers Alfisols form a major order of soils of Karnataka without organic manures or organic residues, soils are and finger millet is a staple food crop grown on these becoming deficient in available nutrients (Ramakrishna soils (Malinda et al., 2015). These soils are low in organic parama and Atheefa, 2012). Many workers have reported matter content and their ability to retain moisture is also the deficiency of micronutrients particularly boron in soils low. The structural instability of these soils leads to of India (Maha Singh, 2008). Therefore, it has become reduction in surface roughness and enhance surface very much essential to know the available nutrient status sealing. These properties induce excessive runoff under in soils in order to achieve sustainability in production. high intensity rain and affects the seedling emergence Soil plays a major role in macro and micronutrients particularly the small seeded crops like finger millet, pearl management and also availability of these nutrients in millet and sorghum. Due to intensive cultivation involving soil is known to be influenced by soil factors such as HIND AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING INSTITUTE SHRUTHI AND R. C. PREFACE One of the important publications of the Census of India 1961 is the District Census Handbook for each district. The District Census Handbooks were first published in the 1951 Census. In the District Census Handbook of the 1961 Census it was originally envisaged to include detai1ed administrative statistics, Census Tables and Village Dire ctory, along with certain maps. Due to circumstances beyond the conlirol of this organisa tion, the District Census Handbooks of Bangalore, Dharwar and Mysore Districts were delayed. In order to ensure that the basic demographic data is available, it was decided to publish the handbooks of these three districts in a slightly modified form.
