Volunteer Coach Bob Youngs LAST TIME OUT Team Information Showers powers DU to win on Senior Day CALEDONIA, Mich. - The drama is usually high on Senior Day, but 2017 overall record 43-17 it was intensified on Saturday as the Davenport baseball team was 2017 conference record 26-6 (2nd WHAC) trailing by a run going into the bottom of the eighth. The Panthers Final ranking 26th (NAIA) (26-17, 16-8 GLIAC) saw an 8-3 lead evaporate as Ashland scored six straight runs to take a 9-8 lead. DU was looking at two outs Letter winners R/L 18/11 and the bases loaded when catcher Brent Showers delivered Starters R/L 6/3 his biggest hit of the season. He singled up the middle on a 1-1 Newcomers 13 count and Austin Lansky and Austin Petravicius scored to give DU a 10-9 lead. The Panthers got an insurance run as Anthony DiPonio doubled down the left field line scoring Alex Huard from Baseball History (Start of 2018 Season) third. Showers was gunned out at the plate trying to score from First year 2009 first to end the inning. All-time record 331-164 (.669) The game was wrapped up in the top of the ninth by Evan Maize, All-time WHAC record 161-63 (.719) who recorded the final out of the eighth inning. The Eagles (26-17, NAIA Tournament appearances 4 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) 13-11 GLIAC) made things interesting as Alex Niecikowski was hit by a pitch with one out and Sam Hawley followed with a single to Last Tournament appearance 2017 (2-2 Opening Round) right. Austin Eifrid struck out for the second out and Maize fanned WHAC Championships 2015 (Tournament) Matt Littrell on a 3-2 pitch to end the game. Maize improved to 3-0 2014 (Regular Season and Tournament) with the win and struck out three of the six batters he faced out of the bullpen. Athletics Communications Lansky and Showers each had big days for the Panthers.
