1 Reading Corners in Bukit Merah • the Community's Grassroots Leaders Reading Corners in Bukit Merah The community’s grassroots leaders and a few social service organisations will provide a variety of services and programmes at the site of the former Bukit Merah Public Library. These will include a mini-library and reading corner supported by NLB. NLB has also worked with community partners to set up reading corners at various locations in Bukit Merah, so that residents continue to have access to library resources. There are currently 12 reading corners in the Bukit Merah area, offering over 5,000 books and 250 seats in total. The full list is given in the table below. At these reading corners, residents can enjoy collections of books donated by NLB, as well as spaces for reading. Programmes such as storytelling sessions will also be conducted at some reading corners. If there is ground-up grassroots interest to set up more community-owned reading corners, NLB is also ready to facilitate the community’s effort by providing the reading corners with collections and training to guide grassroots volunteers in running these reading corners independently. For more information, please contact us at [email protected]. Apart from these reading corners, NLB will continue to visit and engage schools and organisations in the Bukit Merah community through activities such as mass borrowing and assembly talks.
