THE MONTH: - Our case of the month is an excellent way to get real value for your wine dollar and drink wines from around the world, carefully selected by J. Emerson staff. No need to join an Internet wine club with their mystery wines and made up labels – Our case is infinitely more interesting and a better value! The discounted price of the NOVEMBER case-of-the-month is $104.99; the regular price would be $145.99, a savings of OVER 28%! Here is the line-up and as always, there are 2 each of the first four wines (*) and 1 each of the last four wines. *2015 Volpetti Frascati, Lazio, Italy - Made from the traditional grapes of the Frascati area (near Rome), Malvasia, and Greco, this is a perfect wine with appetizers, soups and fish because of its delicate perfume, stone fruit flavors and crisp, balanced finish. Pair with a spicy/salty Gorgonzola Picante cheese! *2013 Grupo Yllera "Cuvi Roble", V.T. Castilla y León, Spain – (100% ) Muted aromas of red berry fruits with a touch of vanilla from the 6 months in American . Medium bodied with a touch of liquorice and spice. Easy drinking elegant and round with refined tannins. Pair with a young Manchego! *2014 Ch. de Coing Muscadet Sevre et Maine "Coing de Sevre" Sur Lie, Loire, France - The perfect pairing for oysters and seafood, Muscadet is the most famous expression of the grape Melon de Bourgogne. Citrus and green apple flavors with a certain richness from aging on the fine lees (sur lie) it finishes dry and crisp with a touch of salinity. A natural pairing for fondue, it is also a great match for cave aged Gruyere. *2014 Domaine des Homs "Tersande",IGP Coteaux de Peyriac, Languedoc, France -(90% and 10% , all from organically certified vines.) Ripe fruit notes of plums and violets with a touch of coffee; this is a warm and spicy wine that’s easy and pleasant to drink finishing with a bit of zing from the refreshing tannins. A great match for Cypress Grove Midnight Moon, the wine highlights the nuttiness of the cheese, and the cheese highlights the freshness of the wine! NV Can Xa Cava Rose, Penedes, Spain - Made in the traditional Methode Champenoise process from 100% and aged a minimum of nine months on the lees. Elegantly structured with juicy red currant, raspberries, a touch of almond and bread crust. Dry and piquant with fine bubbles on a toasty finish. Bubbles beg for richness. Get that (and earthy flavor) by enjoying this wine with Brillat Savarin, a triple crème Brie. 2013 Luis Pato Colheita Selecionada, Beira Atlantico, Portugal - (70% Baga, 30% Touriga Nacional) Baking cherries and red raspberries with hints of pepper and earth. This is slightly reminiscent of cru Beaujolais; finishing elegant and smooth. A good wine for the Thanksgiving table. Baga tends to be tannic. Soften it up with some Poacher’s Cheddar…the sweetness of the caramelized onions will balance it. 2015 St. Paul's Schiava Rosso, Alto Adige, Italy - Aromas of red cherry and wildflower mark this bright, elegant red. The easy-drinking palate offers crushed cherry, strawberry, orange zest and a hint of white almond alongside refreshing acidity and ultrafine smooth-to-none tannins. Get funky…try with Taleggio. 2015 Chateau de Vaux Blanc "Les Gryphees", Moselle, France - (30% Auxerrois 30% Muller Thurgau 30% Pinot Gris 10% Gewürztraminer) – A classic field blend from a tiny AOC (just 100 acres) tucked up in the northeast corner of France, just over the mountains from Alsace. Notes of peaches and white flowers on the nose, followed on the palate with ripe fruit and a fine mineral finish. A good for turkey! This fantastically aromatic blend of grapes will cozy right up to the smooth blue stylings of Cambozola.

2015 Domaine Billard Pere et Fils Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Rouge, France Burgundy under $20 and perfect for Thanksgiving Day! It is very rare these days to be able to offer a Burgundy rouge at under $20 that has body and balance but this delicious wine was helped, no doubt, by the warm, dry, excellent finish to the 2015 vintage. The Billard HCB Rouge comes from a plot of 4 hectares with alluvial clay soil. Respecting the delicate nature of Pinot Noir, the extraction is obtained by foot . The wine is then matured in barrel for 10 months. Ripe cherries and forest floor; medium bodied, fine tannins and turkey ready acidity. Reg. $21.99 / On sale in Nov. $18.99

NEW ARRIVALS 2013 Vietti d'Alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia, Italy – From 90 year old vines yielding about 300 cases a vintage. The ultimate expression of Barbera in the Piedmont “A dense, fleshy version, with bracing acidity underlining violet, black cherry, blackberry and spice flavors. Stays fresh on the resonant finish. Drink now through 2018. 300 cases made.” (WS 2016) $79.99 2012 Chionetti “Briccolero”DOCG Dogliani, Italy- “The darker, more powerful side of Dolcetto from Dogliani comes through in the 2012 Dogliani Briccolero. Firm tannins give the 2012 lovely backbone and structure. Melted road tar, plums, licorice, tobacco and smoke all flesh out on the powerful, imposing finish. Readers are best off giving the 2012 another year or two in bottle. Today, the Briccolero is super-intense and raw, such is its pure power.” (Vinous AG 10/13) $27.99 2014 Piedrasassi Syrah (Santa Barbara County), Ca. – One of our favorite Cali ’ that walks the line between the old and new world! “The 2014 Syrah is a delicious, -level Syrah. Aromatic, mid- weight and gracious, the 2014 delivers tons of flavor intensity in a deceptively mid-weight style. Hints of lavender, violet, black pepper and plum grace the refined, polished finish. This is an especially gracious, refreshing style of Syrah. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later.” (Vinous 9/16) $25.99

THANKSGIVING SUGGESTIONS. , , clean , Pinot Noir and make wines ideal for the Thanksgiving table. Here are just a couple of suggestions 2013 Foxglove Chardonnay, Central Coast, Ca – “The 2013 Chardonnay is a fabulous wine for the money. Lemon oil, white flowers and white pepper are all laced together in an impeccably balanced, layered Chardonnay long on class and personality. The 2013 is a blend of fruit from vineyards in Santa Barbara County and Paso Robles, done entirely in steel, with no . It is also one of the very best values in California Chardonnay readers will come across.” (Vinous 7/15) $14.99 2015 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie, Beaujolais, France –“Deep ruby. Heady red and blue fruit, potpourri and fruitcake aromas show excellent clarity and pick up a minerally nuance with air. Combines power and finesse with a deft hand, offering palate-staining black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that spread out slowly on the back half. Shows real intensity and a suave floral pastille quality on the youthfully tannic finish, which leaves a sappy blue fruit note behind.” (Vinous 8/16) $24.99

2014 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay. Vielles Vignes- “The 2014 Volnay Villages has a juicy bouquet with red cherries and raspberry fruit, touches of orange blossom, quite sensual and flamboyant, very Volnaysian. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity. There is so much roundness here, sensual in texture with plush red cherries and raspberry tinged with soy towards the long finish. Just lovely!” (WA#222) $60.99 2012 Maison Roche de Bellene Volnay, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy, France – “The 2012 Volnay Vieilles Vignes has a rounded, generous bouquet with pure raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp opening, good structure with a gritty, chalky finish with bags of freshness. This is a commendable interpretation of Volnay.” (WA#210) $67.99

RETURN POLICY J. Emerson, Inc. guarantees that each bottle of wine we sell is in good condition. We recognize that sometimes a bottle looks fine but, in fact, the wine has gone bad. A cork fails or some other unforeseen problem occurs; unusual but it does happen. If you purchase a bad bottle of wine from us, please bring the bottle (with wine) back promptly. We will taste the wine with you to try and ascertain what has gone wrong. We will replace the bad bottle with a good bottle of the same wine. On the other hand we are not responsible for any damage that occurs after the wine has left the store. This is especially true in the summer. We will NOT accept any returns of warm or hot bottles. Returns should come back to us at about the same temperature as our store. PLEASE do not leave your wine in your car or trunk. It takes less than two hours in 80-90 degree sun to “pop” a cork.

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION! Customers often ask how they should store wine. Our straightforward response is: on it’s side, in the dark, in a cool place with no vibration; anywhere but standing straight up on the kitchen counter next to the dishwasher. So it is very distressing to see expensive wine in a local grocery store standing straight up under the fluorescent lights next to a prepared HOT foods section, a very busy part of the store; the commercial equivalent of the kitchen counter next to the dishwasher. There could be no WORSE conditions under which I would want a bottle of fine wine stored. Often these wines will take a year or more to sell; all the more reason to make sure they are properly stored. I would caution anyone to get a money back guarantee when purchasing wine stored under those conditions.
