Forest Cover (Area-wise): Madhya Pradesh> Arunachal Pradesh> Chhattisgarh> Odisha> Maharashtra. Forest Cover (Percentage): Mizoram (85.4%)> Arunachal Pradesh (79.63%)> Meghalaya (76.33%) According to India State of Forest Report the recorded forest area of the state is 94,689 sq. km which is 30.72% of its geographical area. According to Indian state of forest Report (ISFR – 2019) the total forest cover in M.P. increased to 77,482.49 sq km which is 25.14% of the states geographical area. The forest area in MP is increased by 68.49 sq km. The first forest policy of Madhya Pradesh was made in 1952 and the second forest policy was made in 2005. Madhya Pradesh has a total of 925 forest villages of which 98 forest villages are deserted or located in national part and sanctuaries. MP is the first state to nationalise 100% of the forests. Among the districts, Balaghat has the densest forest cover, with 53.44 per cent of its area covered by forests. Ujjain (0.59 per cent) has the least forest cover among the districts In terms of forest canopy density classes: Very dense forest covers an area of 6676 sq km (2.17%) of the geograhical area. Moderately dense forest covers an area of 34, 341 sqkm (11.14% of geograhical area). Open forest covers an area of 36, 465 sq km (11.83% of geographical area) Madhya Pradesh has 0.06 sq km.

    STUDY ON PLANNING OF WATER RESOURCES OF RAJASTHAN Executive Summary Project Background The State Water Policy of Government of Rajasthan, February 2010, provides for development of its Water resources in a well planned way. All new projects shall be planned based on micro watershed planning basis so as to ensure equity in use of surplus water. It is on this account that the Government of Rajasthan took up study to review and update all River Basin Master Plans for the integrated development and management of all its water resources. In this connection necessary provision of funds were made in EC funded State Partnership Program (SPP) under implementation in Rajasthan State. The earlier comprehensive study on water planning for different river basins in Rajasthan State was carried out by TAHAL-WAPCOS Consultants during year 1994-1998. This study was considered quite old and had much reduced relevance in today’s context. The present study therefore envisages to take-up review and fresh planning of all the water resources of Rajasthan based on updated water resources data and modern techniques now available in this field of study encompassing all necessary provisions made in the new water policy of the State Government. The purpose of this assignment is to prepare a long term plan and policy for development and management of the water resources of the State of Rajasthan, both surface (internal and external) and ground water, on comprehensive and integrated basis. About two-thirds of the Earth is covered by water. Among many water bodies, Lakes are the most fertile, diversified and productive of all the ecosystems in the world. A variety of environmental goods and services are bestowed upon us by Lakes which makes them vulnerable to human exploitation. The fresh water Pushkar Lake is situated in the gap of the Aravallis and was used as the area of research for the present study. History claims that in the 20 th century, this Lake and its catchment area were a rich source of wildlife as well as a source of water for the railways for over 70 years, till 2004. The society’s demand for economic gains has resulted in the deterioration of its water quality. Two main reasons for this loss are – high rate of sedimentation due to sand-fall from the nearby sand dunes and anthropogenic practices followed in the periphery of the Lake. The water of the Lake is getting dried up because of reversal of hydraulic gradient from Lake to groundwater, leading to rapid decline in the groundwater level of the surrounding areas also.

SAMIR NAWAL GSSS JHANWAR, JODHPUR, EX RESEARCH SCHOOLAR, DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY, JNV UNIVERSITY JODHPUR RAJASTHAN ABSTRACT: Precambrian stratigraphy of northwestern India can be assigned to the Bhilwara (>2500 Ma), Aravalli (2500 Ma to 2000 Ma) and Delhi (2000 Ma to 700 Ma) Geological Cycles on the basis of environment of deposition and tectonomagmatic events. The metasediments, concordant and discordant intrusives ad their extrusive phases, corresponding to these geological cycles have been designated as the Bhilwara, the Aravalli and the Delhi Supergroups. These have been further subdivided into several groups and still further into formation. INTRODUCTION The rocks of the Bhilwara Supergroup occur in an arcuate belt, extending from Deyi in the northeast through Kishangarh to Pipalkhunt in the southeast, underlying the Mewar plains of Rajasthan, and consist of metasedimentary sequences with associated migmatitic complex and igneous rocks. The rocks of the Arava!Ii Supergroup are exposed in south-eastern part of the Aravalli Range and northeastern part of Gujarat extending from Kankroli in the north to Champaner in the .south and mainly consist of argillaceous and arenaceous metasedimentary sequences with associated basic volcanics and ultrabasic igneous rocks. The main Aravalli Range extending from Ajmer in the north to Himmatnagar and Khed Brahma in the south. The Marwar Plains between Pali in the north and Reodhar in the southwest are occupied by the rocks of Delhi Supergroup which consist of calcareous, argillaceous and arenaceous metasedimentary sequences with associated basic volcanics and igneous rocks.

February, 2014; accepted ............................, 2014) ABSTRACT The water of Kota Barrage is mainly used for domestic uses and bathing, besides irrigation and aquac- ulture. Seasonal variations in benthic fauna and selected Physico-chemical parameters of Kota Barrage Dam have been studied on the basis of the samples collected during monthly surveys for a period of one year (November, 2004 to October, 2005) which revealed interesting interrelationship among various factors. This Dam is affected by pollution (industrial specially Thermal Power Plant effluents and domestic) as indicated by low dissolved oxygen. Based on depth of visibility values Kota Barrage Dam could be categorized as “Moderately eutrophic” whereas nitrate nitrogen values of Kota Barrage dam indicated “Mesotrophic” status. On the other hand hardness values of this Dam were “Moderately hard”. The species diversity was found to influence due to water pollution in Kota Barrage. Despite this the biodiversity of macroinvertebrates was appreciably high with recorded 27 species. Most dominant benthic species encountered were Melanoides tuberculata, Bellamya bengalensis, Gyraulus convexiusculus, Indoplanorbis exustus and Lymnaea acuminata.
