LPs continue to show strength and lend resilience to physical albums, as independent retail events like Record Store Day continue to bring music fans in droves. In light of the announcement of Rider’s consolidation plan to incorporate the students, faculty and staff of WCC onto the Lawrenceville campus next fall, the governor touched on preserving the history and integrity of the choir college during a phone interview with The Rider News. “I do value the choir college and I was bemoaning the fact that it was going to be sold to the Chinese entity, so I’m happy that didn’t happen,” he said. On the question of consolidating the two campuses, Murphy expressed that he was not well-versed on the plan, but hoped to see the legacy of WCC live on. “Beyond that, I’m not smart enough to know the inside sense of the consolidation question, I’ve read about it but I don’t have any sense of it,” he said. “But I do think the choir college is a cherished New Jersey asset and the extent to which its legacy can live onward in a fiscally and, otherwise, acceptable way, I think that’s great for the legacy, heritage and future of the choir college.” Questions related to WCC or the consolidation plan were not asked during the Rebovich event.

    COMPARING SEXUAL THEMES IN RAP MUSIC 1 Comparing Sexual Themes in Rap Music by Female and Male Music Artists: A Qualitative Study Jessica Walsh Department of Psychology, University of California, Santa Cruz Psychology 182: Qualitative Research Methods Dr. Robert Majzler April 2, 2020 COMPARING SEXUAL THEMES IN RAP MUSIC 2 Abstract This paper explores the different sexual themes between rap music with female music artists and male music artists and how they compare. The data corpus consists of 20 rap/hip-hop songs, 10 of which are sung by women, and the other 10 sung by men. The songs were taken from two separate lists featuring top rap songs of 2019, which were analyzed thematically. Overall, the songs by male artists contained themes of female objectification and sexual domination, while the songs by female artists contained themes of sexual and erotic agency. Both categories of songs shared themes of the artist’s sexual irresistibility, transactional sex, and humiliation through infidelity. COMPARING SEXUAL THEMES IN RAP MUSIC 3 Introduction There is a great body of research on the common themes in popular rap music. Many studies focus on the prevalence of misogyny and sexualized content, and its impact on people’s social attitudes (Conrad, Dixon & Zhang, 2009; Hunter, 2011; Karsay, Matthes, Buchsteiner & Grosser, 2019; Rodgers & Hust, 2018). Conrad, Dixon, and Zhang (2009) find that some subgenres of rap music heavily promote sex and sexism, with many music videos in this genre portraying women as sexualized, submissive, and on the receiving end of violence. Men in these music videos are often shown to be sexually dominating, sometimes using money as a mediator for sexual encounters (Conrad, Dixon & Zhang, 2009; Hunter, 2011).
