The Vanquish S Red Arrows is one of the most exclusive Aston Martins ever. Designed in partnership with the iconic Red Arrows, only 10 cars were built to this unique specification. Red 10 is a tribute to the Red Arrows supervisor for 2017, Squadron Leader Mike Ling MBE. Mike is the longest serving Red Arrows pilot in the team’s history, currently on his record 11th consecutive season with the team. Red 10 carries Mike’s signature on it’s ‘Final Inspection’ plaque. I‘m delighted to Red 10 was donated to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and raffled as announce that Red a prize, raising over £1.5m for the charity. The car was won in December 2017 by ex-serviceman Humphrey Bradley. ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH S. RED 10 THE JOURNEY SO FAR Since its memorable and exhilarating handover day at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire on October 24th 2017, the car has covered 2,202 miles. During his time with Red 10, current owner Humphrey Bradley has continued to support the RAF Benevolent Fund and the inspiring work they do to support both serving and former members of the RAF, as well as their partners and dependants. Alongside multiple UK appearances, key highlights of Red 10’s travels to date include its presence as the lead Aston Martin for the 2018 Le Mans drivers’ parade and acting as pace car for the Aston Martin Festival race. To further document the journey so far, the new owner will be lucky enough to receive a set of framed number plates as signed at Le Mans by the Aston Martin Festival drivers & the AMR factory drivers. ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH S. RED 10 INCREDIBLE DETAIL Red 10 is paired with Squadron Leader Mike Ling’s jet XX232, with this military registration number appearing inside and outside the car. The ‘Eclat Red’ paintwork in unique to the Vanquish S Red Arrows. It has a spectacular gold metallic fleck and takes its name from the Red Arrows team motto. Bespoke paintwork detail features such as the ‘tailfin’ Union Jack motif on the front splitter and the ‘smoke trails’ on the side sills are a fitting tribute to the remarkable Red Arrows team. ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH S. RED 10 INSPIRED BY THE RED ARROWS HAWK JET Every detail in the Vanquish S Red Arrows takes its inspiration from the famous red Hawk jets flown by the team. In fact there is a genuine piece of a Red Arrows Hawk in the car as we melted down an undercarriage leg from one of the jets to make the rotary controls for the Climate Control system in the car. Taking design cues from the Red Arrows Hawk jet, the interior specification includes switches bearing the RAF roundel, whilst the side skirts feature trademark blue and white ‘smoke trails’ with a Union Jack tail fin motif. It designates Air Combat Command as lead command for the A-10, F-15, F-16, and F-22 aircraft demonstrations. This instruction does not currently apply to Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), or Air National Guard (ANG) Units. Major Commands (MAJCOMs), Field Operating Agencies (FOAs), and Direct Reporting Units (DRUs) may supplement this instruction. A Figura 1 apresenta uma das formações do Red Arrows. Figura 1 - formações do Red Arrows. 2 - Aspectos Históricos Os anos de 1950 e 1960 foram o apogeu dos times de acrobacias da RAF. Por meados de 1960, quase todas as escolas de treinamento de voo e vários esquadrões operacionais, tinham seus próprios times. Muito tempo, esforço e dinheiro estavam sendo gastos neles, então a RAF tomou a decisão de dissolver todos eles e formar um único time profissional em tempo integral.     6 November 2012 Life with the Red Arrows Flt Lt Mike J Child, Red 9, Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (The Red Arrows) 1. Introduction This lecture described the history of formation display, the Red Arrows team, the selection of new pilots, the Red Arrows aircraft, the methodology behind the training, the displays and finally the wider roles of the Red Arrows. The lecture included a series of video sequences showing both the historical aspects of display flying and the present day Red Arrows demonstration programme. 2. History Close formation flying has been taught since the days of the Royal Flying Corps in WWI. Such flying proved to be the most efficient method of getting large numbers of aircraft from A to B. It also encouraged pilots to fly their aircraft to their performance limits. By the 1930s the Royal Air Force (RAF) was fighting for its independence and therefore decided to initiate a series of public demonstrations of its capabilities. These included the now famous Hendon Air Displays in which the RAF showed off both its aerobatics and formation flying skills. At the end of WWII all fast jet squadrons wanted to have a demonstration flight. By the 1950s no fast jet squadron was without a display capability. Famous demonstration flights of that era included the Yellow Jacks, the Black Arrows and the Red Pelicans. However, the cost of maintaining such flights became unacceptable. As a result, in 1964, the Air Council ruled that only training units could include demonstration flights. This resulted in the formation of the Red Arrows.
