PRESIDENTS REPORT

How quickly another year goes by. In my third year as President I am very proud again of what we have achieved this year. Each year we lift the bar as a club.

To all the families who joined the club this year it was great to have you as a part of the LJFC family for the first time and to all families I hope you enjoyed your time at the club this year. I would like to thank everyone around the club for the year we have had and congratulate the many of you, who put their hands up each week, on a job well done.

We had 6 teams reach the finals (out of a possible 12) this year, which was one less than last year. 2 teams made it through to the Preliminary Final. Unfortunately we did not see any blue and white on Grand Final day but as hosts of the finals again this year we certainly had a good time. We fielded 19 teams and had 427 players registered. This is up by two teams and 47 players from 2013. We had 11 new coaches appointed, with a number of those with either senior playing and or coaching experience. From an on field perspective we are very proud of the year.

We do not only measure our success in final appearances but in the knowledge that our children have enjoyed their football and improved their football, team and social skills. Of course we know that what each team strives for is to play in a finals campaign and reach grand final success and if not this year there is always next year. It gives the teams and players motivation to have more on field success next year.

For our 9’s and 10’s teams it is all about participation and learning the game. It was great to know from your coaches that you continued to develop and improve as the year progressed. It was also exciting that for the first time we had 4 under 9’s sides. There were approximately 250 children registered for Auskick this year so the numbers coming through continue to be strong.

A key focus for this year was the establishment of our Junior and Youth girls sides. It was great too see the girls play in their first round and improve during the year. While our Junior girls did not win a game they certainly made progress and by the end of the last four rounds did not lose a game by more than 18 points. Our Youth girls made the preliminary final and just missed out making it into the last game of the year. As a club we have not had many girls play footy so it was very exciting to see 38 girls register this year. With the progress and enthusiasm we are expecting to see more join next year. I would like to thank Jenny Randall who coordinated the setup of our girls teams. At the start of the year I turned to Jenny and asked if she would take on the role. She agreed without hesitation and can now look back fondly on the contribution she has made.

- 7 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

This year we saw a number of new and innovative ideas implemented. We have seen: 1. The introduction of online medical information capture through Care Monkey. 2. New signage in the social/change rooms such as sponsors and updated the club theme song for our girls teams. 3. Five new sets of footy jumpers. 4. Replaced worn out training and team manager equipment. 5. Installed extra security cameras in the Junior Pavilion. 6. Installed our trophy cabinets. 7. Installed cabinetry in the office and cleaning cupboard room. 8. Installed security gate in front of canteen roller door. 9. Installed cages in the storage rooms to give better access to training equipment for coaches. 10. Landscaping out the front of the social room. 11. Sanity bins in womens toilets. 12. Air fresheners in all toilets. 13. Purchased a lectern. 14. New sponsorship banner for wall in social room. 15. Started to go through old records to construct club history and honour board information. 16. Installation of Oval 1 and Oval 3 electronic scoreboards. An asset we will get a lot out of including generating more sponsorship revenue. 17. Split of development squad unto an Under 14 and 15 squad who attended 5 monthly squad lessons. The Under 16’s trained twice with the senior group. 18. Dramatically improved all our media thanks to Haydn Quirk: o Website refreshed o Facebook more active o Monthly newsletter 19. Launched new app for all teams. 20. Put all our Trainers through Level 2 First Aid training. 21. Named our Outstanding Service award the “The Hargreaves Family Outstanding Service Award” in honour of Deb Hargreaves who passed away in 2013. 22. Named our inaugural Junior and Youth Girls Highest vote award after Melinda Gibson who has been a long and committed parent and committee member around the club.

- 8 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

Congratulations to Kieran Collins, past player, who has been selected into the AFL AIS Level 2 Scholarship Program for 2014/15. This is an exciting opportunity for Kieran after his first year with the AIS. We wish him all the best as he pursues his football ambitions.

Congratulations to Luke Parker, past player, who won the Sydney Swans B&F Bob Skilton medal for 2014.

I would like to thank Sam Watson (President), Greg Planner (Vice President), Ally Savory (Secretary), Wayne Smith (Treasurer), Ryan Grose (Football Manager), Chris Baker (Sponsorship), LFC Committee, Gavin Artico (Senior coach) and all players for their support. It has been a pleasure working with everyone on the LFC committee and those around the club again this year as we continue to build on our “One Club” policy.

Once again we hosted the FDJFL finals this year which was another huge success. We also welcomed Devon Meadows who helped host the finals this year. Thank you to Brian Reece, DMJFC President, and his team who were a pleasure to work with. To see the numerous volunteers, people pitching in to help, the strong community feel around the place and the nothing is too much trouble attitude was a great example of community spirit. A special thank you to the Frankston Coast Guard who were our car parking officials. They did a great job and for their efforts we donated $1000 to their cause. We introduced a few new things this year with jumping castles each finals round, kransky’s in the burger tent and more bins. We upped the ante on the pre-match entertainment before the Under 16 Blue Division Grand Final with a helicopter landing on Oval 1 and Alan Wickes (F&DJFL Representative) and Jeff Kimber (South East Commission Chairman) stepping out to deliver the Grand Final Cup and match ball. To Matt Davis who coordinated the event, you did a fantastic job, and to those who helped, it was incredible. To Norm Whiteside for your passion on getting the helicopter approved through council. To have the Presidents of the F&DJFL participating clubs line up and to have Lani Quirk belt out the national anthem so beautifully was a magnificent sight. Hosting the finals continues to be an important revenue stream and enables us to do the many things we do around the club.

This is also an opportunity for me to thank a number of people who have worked tirelessly around the club.

I would like to thank all our volunteer coaches, team managers and other team officials. Without you we cannot get our children and teams out on the ground.

To the Executive committee of Steve Abblitt, Richard Kenny, Rachael Bluhm, Tony Collins and Melinda Gibson thank you for the year. You have all done a fantastic job and spent many long hours ensuring our club runs smoothly, efficiently and professionally. I would like to pay special mention to Richard Kenny and Rachael Bluhm who both joined the executive this year. They have both done an exceptional job over the year and I am looking forward to them continuing in their roles next year.

- 9 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

To all of you on the general committee you once again stepped up and shared the load so it was not left to a few. Each person on the committee has a job or jobs to do and you do it effortlessly and I know I can trust the job will get done. I have also enjoyed the fact people are prepared to raise ideas or issues so that we can discuss them and agree a way forward. It is important in any organisation whether it is volunteer or professional that you continue to look at ways to improve and without people raising the ideas and issues we cannot move forward. It was also great to see 8 new committee members this year. Having fresh faces lets us keep the club moving forward and ensures we have good succession plans in place. I am hopeful we will see some more new faces on the committee in 2015.

For those of you on the committee not continuing next year thank you for all your efforts in 2014 or previous years you have been on the committee. Without your contribution we are not able to get the things done we want to.

I would also like to thank Tracey Simmons and Leanne Harkness for the wonderful job they did this year in running our canteen. You have been great to work with and you show a sense of fun in the canteen which rubs off on those around you. We always received great feedback on our canteen on how it is run and the quality of food. I know both of you are stepping down but thank you for your assistance in hiring our new canteen operator for 2015.

Well done and thank you to Kyle and Karina Burns for managing our merchandise ordering and sales. You have done this for a number of years and under your guidance really lifted our merchandise options and sales.

To Ray Ross, our Club Advocate, thank you for the job you did this year. Tribunals are not a pleasant experience but you ensured we were prepared when you were required.

Thanks to Terry Treacy, for marking our lines each week. With you coming on board it certainly enabled Ged Randall to have some free time. It is one of those jobs that goes unnoticed but would certainly be noticed if not done.

To Amanda Cox for keeping our Social Room and Change Rooms nice and clean. I know it is not the easiest of jobs but you do it with a smile.

I have again enjoyed working with the committee and those who helped around the club this year. They are very dedicated and hard working in order to ensure we are able to provide the best environment for your children. It has been an absolute honour to get to know each of you more as the year progressed and I know that each and every one of you is doing this because of the passion you have for this club.

- 10 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

Finally thank you to my wife Kim and children, Michaela and Zachary who have been a huge support to me over the past 12 months. Without you I cannot do this and I know at times I am not around as much as I want or you need me to be but you have enabled me to do something I am very passionate about, I appreciate you being there for me.

Go Langy!,

TREASURERS REPORT

I am happy to report on the Langwarrin Junior Football Financial Statements for the financial year ended 30th June 2014. The financial statements have been reviewed and approved by our accountant, Flinders Partners Group (refer to Appendix 1 for the report). All matters arising from the review have been completed.

We have had a very successful year financially with our bank account $65,692.03 (as at 30th June 2014). Our current balance as at the 30th September 2014 is $23,118.89. We are up $8,015.92 from last year, which gives us funds to spend on upgrading our Club. Improvements which have been made in the 2013/2014 year are the new scoreboard for Oval 3, introduction of Care Monkey, installing a security system, first aid course for all our trainers, trophy display cabinets which Ged so kindly organised and landscaping to the front of the club rooms plus general ground maintenance. We again have also made numerous donations to local community groups, charities and families in need.

Registration – The total revenue generated from registrations was $65,730.77, $17,985.76 up from last financial year. Our fees were raised this year which is the first time for long time, also we had 19 teams registered. Registration has been a huge amount of work this year for our registrar Melinda Gibson. We ended up registering approx. 450 children, with registrations going on all through the season. Well done to Melinda for all her effort.

Major Outstanding Expenses - Scoreboard Oval 3 – The only real major expense outstanding is the balance of payment for scoreboard which is $14,500 which was paid in July 2014.

Major Outstanding Income – None to report.

Gala Night – This we made approx. $1600 on the Gala night, it was hard going selling tickets, but everyone had a fun night. A Sub-committee headed up by Jodie will put out a survey to see what people are interested in.

Canteen – We had a very profitable year in the canteen which gave the club a net profit of approx. $30,000, this is up about approx. $10,000 from last year. These canteen figures are for the year ended 30th June 2014. The hosting of the finals for 2014 with one canteen running, took $24940.80. Once again Tracey and Leanne have done a fantastic job with the canteen running smoothly.

Sponsorship – It has been another great year with sponsorship, well done to Norm and his team we raised over $25000 for the 2014 season which was a fantastic effort, costs associated with sponsorship are related to creating signage.

- 12 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

Merchandise – Kyle and Karina Burns have continued there fantastic work as the roll of Merchandise Co-ordinators. With having 4 under 9 sides and the introduction of 2 girl’s sides, it has been an exceptionally busy year with merchandise up $4000 from last year. The girl’s hoodies have been very popular and we have purchased 5 new sets of football jumpers.

Finals – On top of canteen takings we also received an income of $12270.35 from the Burger Tent, up $1601.30 from last year, well done to Adrian and his team. We also received $1969.01 from gate takings and $1980 in food purchases from the FDJFL umpires officials. This was all for the 2013 finals.

Recommendations:

Registration: We went pretty well with registration this year, there are a couple of things I think we can improve on: Making sure we are set up online with the printer on registration day, this will give everyone who paid a receipt on the day and also save me entering payments in the following days. Looking at more timely communications, giving reminder emails in the early part of the season regarding when payment is due and consequences if this is not paid before a certain date, or a payment plan is put in motion by this date. In closing we had an excellent year financially up approx. $24000 in income from last financial year. I think we are an extremely well run club in a great financial position, we have pretty much fitted out the clubrooms, we need to spend some more money on drainage and landscaping. We are well on the way to upgrading all ovals with electronic scoreboards which will help with revenue in regards to advertising. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the committee on all the hard work they have done and thank you for all your support.

Kind regards,

Rachael Bluhm

INDIVIDUAL TEAM REPORTS

Junior Girls – Coach Chris Hull

All in all the first year of the girls league think was a success we started with 12 girls and ended with 19 , we did not win a game for the whole year but our girls went from losing by 120 points down to loosing bye 6 the last for games we lost on average of 15 points . My girls just kept trying it’s all a coach could ask for thy were an asset to the club and played with pride and respect Some of the under 13 girls even played in the under 17 girls and did a really good job, each of the girls that went up played fantastic with one of them being best on the ground in one game. Some of our girls could not even kick a ball or hand ball but by the end of the session all where very good at these skills, the girls enjoyed doing tackling and bumping drills so we worked very hard at these skills and the improve was evident throughout the season. We are really looking at extending the team next year and thank the club for their support and encouragement.

Under 9 Blue – Coach Ben Carter

I started the year as a first time coach and was allocated the under 9 blue team, It was a team of 18 first year boys that over the next few weeks grew in numbers to 21, which I found to be a good number to handle on match day and on the training track, the group finished up consisting of 20 first year players and 1 second year. Our season started a few weeks before training was scheduled, with a meet and greet barbeque, where we held a jumper presentation for the boys, this also gave me an opportunity to meet all the parents and discuss the upcoming season in detail. I outlined my objectives for the year, my coaching philosophy, how I would be running the bench and how their child would experience all positions on the ground. As training commenced I had three main objectives I wanted to work on. 1. Skill work 2. Positional knowledge 3. Team work

Those first few sessions consisted of these elements, skill based drills, and a walk around the ground to discuss positions and their role, followed by a team based game like scarecrow tiggy ect. I found these first weeks to be very useful to ease the boys into their first game and feel more confident about playing their first game and what their role would be.

After my first couple of sessions with my team and assessing their knowledge on the game I decided that the majority of the team would not be able to cope with being moved each quarter, so I devised a system of grouping the boys in equal size and talent, each group was allocated an area on the ground, forwards, mids, backs and would be rotated around there zone for an entire match, each group was then rotated through each zone on a weekly bases. I found this to work really well, it gave the boys a whole game to learn each zone and their roles for the game without worrying, am I in the right position, I think it resulted in less confusion on game day and worked really well. This system continued for the first two thirds of the year and once I was convinced that most of the boys could handle it, I reverted back to the more conventional system of rotating quarterly.

Being a team of first year players we had some challenging games to begin with, it took a couple of weeks for them to find there feet, but I am happy to say as a whole we were a really competitive team, holding our own against the top age teams with only one game where we struggled to control the football, but also putting in some really strong performances against teams of similar age, generally out scoring the opposition. On game day I had a few main objectives: 1. Team work and care for your teammates. 2. Play your role. 3. Execution of skill learnt under pressure.

- 26 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

4. And above all have fun and leave the ground with a smile on your face And I’m happy to say that each week most of those objectives were met and all games were played with Great Spirit and endeavor. It made me very proud to watch these boys, as a team and as individuals grow in confidence and skill level and developing in to great little footballers. About three quarters through the season I decided to introduce there first set play or structure, it was a simple kick out drill we called huddle. It allowed me to give the boys a chance to show some real responsibility and leadership. Each week I would allocate two of the back line players to run the play. It worked fantastic and by the last few games, every time a behind was kicked all you could hear was ten little boys yelling huddle and all running to the same spot, they really got the concept of team work.

I found the langwarrin junior football club to be a fantastic organization to be involved in, you have to give credit when its dew, it is completely professionally run and provided me with more than adequate support through out my first year as a coach, I could not speak any higher on the way the club is run. I would like to thank the president, secretary, and the committee who put in a tremendous amount of work behind the scene and made this a fantastic place to be involved in. Thank you!!!

I was lucky and feel grateful to have such fantastic group of boys that were willing to listen, learn and give me and there teammates the dedication it takes to be involved in a team sport, and I thank you for that. I would also like to thank all the parents for their support they gave me throughout the year, on training nights, social events and on game day, it made my job easy and was much appreciated. A huge thanks goes out to my team manager Hayden and his wife Tegan, you are the heartbeat of the team and it wouldn’t run as smooth as it did with out your hard work, thanks a lot guys.

In summery, it was a roller coaster of a ride this year, but I’m straight back there at the front of the line to bye another ticket. I loved every minute, and look forward to taking on the role next year and molding these boys into fantastic little footballers and the type of people that will make the club and there parents proud.

Under 9 White – Coach Marcus Betros

The 2014 season finished in an encouraging manner and I am positive that all players from the Under 9 Whites will enjoy and improve their football representing the Langwarrin Junior Club. Seventeen players were new registration at the club joining three existing players who were in their second year. We were proud to have the first girl registration with the junior club in the team. The feedback regarding the junior club environment & facilities from new families has been overwhelmingly positive. The support from the senior club was excellent with three senior players attending training sessions and a match. A visit from St Kilda senior players was also a bonus for the team and created much excitement. With so many first year footballers at a very low age level the season provided many challenges for the players. But with a fun teaching and playing program that offered maximum opportunity to learn and participate all children progressed and enjoyed their first season of football.

As coach my job was made much easier with Jodie Greenough as Team manager a difficult job which was well co-ordinated and handled by Jodie. Some areas that could be improved as the club moves forward in my opinion are: - Access to junior club rooms on training nights for parents to have a coffee and a chat, also for coaches to use for players due to poor weather training nights. - under 9 teams draw takes into account matching teams by age & experience level so as to create a more enjoyable contest for players

In summary a great first season for so many players and families at the club. Many thanks to the committee and all involved with the junior club. Go Langy!!

Well season 2014 has been and gone for the Langy Roos under 9s and what a season it was. After taking the first training session early in the year I wondered what I had got myself into, 24 kids all playing their first year of footy. Early games saw us compete really well against more experienced kids with all the boys getting the opportunity to play every position on the ground, the improvement in the boys skills and attitude towards training and game day was exceptional, and after a couple of tough games through the middle of the year against bigger stronger second year players the fellas kept there heads held high and continued to enjoy there footy. It was awesome to see players that were really struggling with some basic skills early improve absolutely out of sight, and the players that had great skills to start also improved. Sensational group of kids for me to coach in my first year as a junior coach the support of there parents, grandparents and family was amazing. Big thanks to Tanya who did all the hard work and never complained, couldn't have done it with out her. Big thanks to langy footy club for giving me the opportunity to coach and be involved in my sons first year of junior footy. Look forward to 2015. Josh Beard.

Under 10 Blue – Coach Matt Baynes

This year we had 26 boys, I have coached this group of boys for the last 3 years and what a year we have had. The development of the team has been amazing, this year I improved the set up of field positions and made sure that I divided my players in 4 groups of 6 players. I had to deal with injuries this year which was different and make sure that when the boys returned they were looked after and made sure their recovery was good.

In this group of 6, I would make sure that I included a very good player, a tall, a player that needs a little more help, this meant that no matter who I had on the field or bench the team was even across the ground. This year I was so pleased that out of 26 players 25 of them kicked a goal, which shows me that every boy contributing to scoring and it was fantastic for me as a coach to see the excitement of them kicking a goal and for some their first for Langwarrin.

I have a few rules that we worked out together as a team, listen to the coach when I am talking, respect each other, encourage each other and make sure that when one of the boys did something good to go over and pat them on the back and when something wasn't so god go over and say keep trying better luck next time. I tried to teach teamwork and mate ship this year and my overall goal was to make sure that all the boys had fun, played together as a team, be unselfish with the ball and to be to the ball first. This year from the first game the boys did this and we sung the club song 9 out of 14 times.

I loved coaching the boys this year and want to coach them again next year to have the opportunity to see their development into playing for points, watching them , having a ladder and also saying that we won a game.

A big thanks to all the boys who were again an amazing group of boys and to the parent helpers who give up their time each week so that they can play this great game each week.

Under 10 White – Coach Darren Wilkie

The 2014 Football season has been very rewarding, not only for the kids in the team but for myself as well. I felt very privileged when my application to coach my son’s team was approved. As an avid football follower and staunch Carlton supporter I have been thrilled to watch my son’s interest in footy blossom to the point where he was beginning to understand the game and wanted to play competitively, and I was even more thrilled when the position to coach became available. This season has seen me step out of my comfort zone on a number of occasions. Successful coaching requires you to plan each training session based on an undetermined number of kids and parent helpers, so a contingency plan always needed to be thought through just in case a skill development drill or game didn’t run to plan. I also needed to factor in the potential for injuries, and how I would deal with them. Then there was the preparation for game day. Planning for the substitutions and positions each match was challenging and if it wasn’t for the skill of Rohan Puls, one of my parent helpers, this task would have taken me a lot longer each week. I was extremely fortunate and grateful when the following parents all volunteered their time to assist in the following positions: Leigh Clancy - Umpire Jaimie Jewiss - Trainer Ash Charles - Runner Jalayna Boaler - Team Manager Kellie Rayner - Ground Marshal

The kids in the “Under 10 Whites” have all had a great season. Some kids had never played before, whereas others had a season under their belt already. Each child on the team has shown significant improvement in their skills, their understanding of the game and its rules, and their love of the sport. There have been tears and tantrums too! Some warranted, others that needed either a gentle word or a firm talking to, to get their head back in the game and their body back on the oval. I have had quite a talented group of players who were generally happy to share the ball around and were happy to pass the ball off to a team mate if they had already kicked their quota of two goals in the game. The kids were thrilled to see their mates being able to kick a goal because another player unselfishly passed the ball. This was a great part of the game for me too. I have enjoyed seeing the boys improve over the season, particularly the ones who were a little unsure, nervous or worried about their ability to kick or hand-ball. It has been rewarding and frustrating coaching my own son too, particularly when he won’t do what he has been asked to do! However, the pride in his eyes and voice when he announces to someone that his Dad is the coach is priceless. I have loved being a part of the Langwarrin Junior Football Club for the 2014 season and I am looking forward to 2015.

Under 11 Blue – Coach Tristan Cornish

This year was a year where the boys experienced a lot of changes to the game after playing 3 seasons of junior football. We had new rules, a new coaching group, new players; we had also been graded into the gold division against some tough sides and experienced our first year of scoring. The Team had bonded really well early and we started introducing the boys to tackling by holding a pre-season launch which involved Sumo wrestling, activities involving tackling and a BBQ. This gave the team the opportunity to meet new players and parents joining the team prior to training. We then arranged a practice match and some joint training sessions with the under 11 whites which gave the boys the opportunity to bond not only as a team but as an age group as once the season starts and you enter your divisions and tend to focus on our individual teams. Throughout this period the boys were looking sharp and looked to be playing good footy. Round 1 arrived and we came up against a side that had just merged their teams resulting in a very well-polished team and we were taught some lessons early giving us a better understanding of where we were placed, this lesson continued for the first 4 rounds as we played the sides who all ended up making finals this year. As the season progressed we learnt in the first half of the season we needed to work hard on game plans and fundamental skills as we entered the second half of the year with 1 win and 6 losses totaling 249 points and a percentage of 44.1%. This was seen as a turning point for the team and we trained hard to make improvements. The second half of the season came and we changed tactics trying to build some positives out of what we had experienced early. This resulted with 4 wins and 4 losses but margins and percentage dramatically improved playing the same teams as there were no changes with regards to grading. This time around we beat a finals contender and improved our percentage with the biggest loss being 36 points in which was the second closest to the team finishing first on the ladder our percentage was also improved to 111.6% in the second half of the season proving if we started the season in the same manner we would have been finals contenders. Overall to wrap up the season, it has been a rollercoaster but the team spirit and belief is amazing and I believe 2015 is looking positive as the boys have all grown and developed their skills. We had a few milestones with the following players playing their 50th game: Josh Cornish, Jack orchard, Elijah Watts, Ben Whelan, Daniel Finlay, Jye Dignan, Ayden Dignan, Steven Talbot , Max Stevens, Samuel Van Brummlen. Lastly, the team is not just the players but it is everyone who helps throughout the year and I am extremely grateful for the support of the parents and the club as it was my first year of coaching and I had some big shoes to fill after the outstanding work Mathew Watts has put into these boys and building a support team in the previous years to date.

This season we had 23 players with 5 being new players to our squad. My aim for the season was to improve our running game as last season we could not run out 4 quarters and were beaten quick easily in this area. We started training 6 weeks prior to the season starting and right through to the end we focused on our running game. It took a couple of games but when the boys got it going they were probably the quickest team over 4 quarters and were always running out games strongly. As a result, we went from a team that struggled to gel and win a game last year to a team that finished 4th and played in a final. Unfortunately we didn't get the ultimate success of a finals win, but at least the boys got the feeling of playing in a final and hopefully this will encourage them to continue working harder to improve next season.

I would like to thank Kerrie my Team Manager for her great work and support throughout the season. We also have a great group of parents who all got in and helped from onground support as well as off the field on game day and training. Without this support we could not have achieved the results we did as it allowed me to solely focus on coaching our boys.

Thankyou for a great season and I wish all the boys the best of luck next season.

Under 12 Blue – Coach Gavin Hiku

2015 was my first year involved in coaching at any age. I have had a strong affiliation with the Pines Football Club for over 26 years so to come to another club was always going to be a challenge. In saying that though I have to say I have enjoyed myself immensely this year. The Langy JFC is to be commended for their professionalism and the way they go about their business. I could not be prouder than to say that I am a junior coach at your club.

Our season started with 24 boys rearing and ready to go. Some of these boys were venturing into their first year of footy and three boys came from Carrum Downs to try a change of scenery.

Our first four rounds we went two for two and then the trouble started in round 5. We went from being heavily in the mix of the strongest Under 12 league to going into round 13 with two wins and 11 losses. This statistic alone does not justify the way these boys played this year. This stat along would suggest a somewhat bleak season but I could not disagree more. We had one boy tear his groin, another required serious knee surgery and another had fluid in his ankles. All these injuries would be considered out of the ordinary for boys 12 years of age. We also had others who were simply unavailable for one reason or another. We had 24 boys but not once did we play with a full list at any time of this season. During this time we lost to three of the top sides by 12, 15 and 12 points respectively.

Our good footy was outstanding but our bad footy was terrible and below par. It’s a fine line this junior footy between some kids who have the need and burn to win and succeed and others who are there simply to be active and just wanting to participate in footy. I said to the boys on numerous occasions that winning games of footy is not a god given right, it is simply a bonus. Under 12 footy is about these boys improving on their motor skills and continuing to learn on the fundamentals of this game. Understanding acceptance of losing, respecting the opposition and themselves and really realizing that this game will not come to you, that you have to be prepared to talk, run and partake in the game in order to be part of it.

I can confidently say that every boy I coached this year made an improvement. Whether it is Jai CULLEY lifting his expectations, Mason HOWLETT becoming an “A” grader, Nick GLASGOW showing glimpses of footy we had not seen years earlier or young Aden TAYLOR who in his first year showed character beyond his years. Every boy had improvement, which as a coach is what I was aiming for. I was not there to feather my cap in more wins than losses and I certainly wasn’t trying to find the next Gary Ablett Jr but what I did find was some promise for the future and that can only hold the club in good stead.

- 36 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

In closing I would like to thank Sally CULLEY who did the hard stuff as team manager, Darren TIBBALS running all year, Pete EDWARDS and Chris JAMIESON running water and Chris CULLEY running the boundary. There are plenty more to thank but that has been done. Special thanks to Langwarrin JFC for allowing me to be part of this club as a coach and lastly thanks to all those boys from Under 12 Blues. Not a bad egg amongst them and I can’t thank them enough.

Under 12 White – Coach Dave Kelly

The U12 Blue Division in 2014 was one of the most competitive in the whole FDJFL with many games throughout the season being decided by a goal. We started the season well and had some fantastic wins, the highlights being the comeback against eventual premiers Frankston Dolphins after we hadn’t scored a goal at halftime, and the epic encounter to pip Frankston YCW. We also had some poor patches in games that cost us some wins at the end of the year, but hopefully this will hold us in good stead for seasons to come. Whilst it is always tough to accept defeat, especially by less than a goal in a final, I think it can be as important to lose well and as well as win well. We knew after winning the GF in 2013 that all teams would be having a crack at us this year and so it proved. But I was still very proud as we gave our all in the match and just fell short on the scoreboard. As a new coach to the side, I installed some different approaches. The number one thing I was looking for was improvement in all players, and I believe we achieved that. I focussed on teaching some new drills at training and this included increasing our fitness base with some running and full ground drills akin to seniors. We also rotated positions on a week to week basis, rather than the quarter by quarter basis they were used to. The final part I was keen to implement was some individual coaching. This enabled me to spend quality time with each player before each game. I felt all of these were met well by the team and they took them on board. At this level we have various levels of skills and fitness and I enjoyed this challenge. We also started learning some game styles and this helped with player interest and commitment. At player level, it was terrific to see Caden Cleary win the Best and Fairest. He works hard on his skills and had an outstanding season. He was also selected to represent us at the V- Squad. Levi Sole was runner-up and performed at a consistently high level all season. Skipper Lochie Dix was a justifiable 3rd after playing some fantastic games. I was pleased to hand my Coaches Award to Pete Bradford. Pete improved dramatically and was able to learn to play in positions all over the field. He also trained hard and listened intently. Blake Jackson also had an outstanding year and was awarded our very own “Golden Fist”. This was awarded for defensive efforts, general improvement and a great attitude. Kodi Nangle kicked the most goals in the League, just pipping teammates Tom Sullivan and Riley Trewin. It was pleasing to see Jackson Vaughan and Dylan Rogers represent us well at the Interleague Carnival, with Jackson being bestowed with the honour as Captain. We also had some 11 players play their 50th games for the club, so it was a very busy year. A team of 24 is difficult to manage, but I was pleased that we also had 19 players kick at least one goal and almost every player received Best and Fairest votes. I have been promoting team values and this shows how even a team we can be across the field. The U12 Whites are blessed with very supportive parents, family and friends. We have a terrific group who are always happy to help with any tasks required and this includes canteen duty as well as suppling lollies and oranges on a rostered basis. However, I would like to make special mention of the following:

- 38 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

• Greg Williams was outstanding as Team Manager. Made a tough job look easy. Thanks for your time, support and commitment. • David Sole, Steve Vaughan and Darren Otto all provided excellent support as runners and trainers. • Craig Firth, Shane Gibson and Nick Doughton for their goal umpiring skills and helping out at training. • Mitch Trewin for his weekly commitment to come and run the boundary for his brothers’ side. • Derrick Derr and Harry Nangle for their respective timekeeping and scoreboard duties.

Also, I would like to extend thanks to the President, Graham Pryde and Football Manager, Tony Collins. I was impressed with the committee and how hard they work. As coach, it was great to see how well organised and well run the club is and this certainly made things a lot easier for us to concentrate on training and game days. Finally, I thoroughly enjoyed the year. I was very lucky to have a group of boys that love their footy so much. We have some real characters in the side and we certainly have some fun along the way. I am already keen to coach this group again next season and look forward to the challenges ahead.

Thanks

Under 13 Blue – Coach Steve Caldicott

I really enjoyed my first season coaching the U13 Blues and am already looking forward to next season. I’ve learnt a lot this season not only about the players but also about myself. I’m looking at different coaching philosophies and strategies, from what I have learnt this season, in order to get more out of the players and myself. We had some new players join us this season. Jaiden Jakubenko: This boy can really play and will win our teams B&F a true leader on and off the field. Sunny Bluhm: What this kid lacks in size he makes up for with his effort and attack at the footy. Nick Studham: His first season of footy and shows a lot of potential. Wasn’t always available due to holidays and other commitments but could become one of our best. We also had a player return this season after missing last year. Kaedyn Hodgson. ‘Tudda’ as he is known by has really improved throughout the year, his attitude is spot on and thoroughly deserves the coach’s award. We struggled at the start of the season with only 16 players and borrowed two U11s for our first game. We did not have a full 18 until round 4 and borrowed U11 and U12 players when we needed them due to players being on holiday, illness or injury. I’d like to thank Darren, Tristian, Gavin and Dave’s teams as well as the parents for giving us players to help out our team this season. This season our aim was for the boys to become more of a TEAM. The focus was on TEAM WORK and helping your TEAM MATES. We achieved this by getting feedback from all the players as well as praising them in front of team mates for what they had done well. We also had coach’s challenges throughout the season which help build comradery within the team. We also had a W.I.N theme for the season. Want the ball In hard Never give up During the season players were given the opportunity to play in different positions. Some recognised that they actually played better in certain positions as well. Their team mates also recognised this which in turn gave them more confidence in team mate. A number of the boys were also given a turn as captain for the day and they learnt about ‘Leadership’ both on and off the field. At the end of the season we won 3 games. Only one more than last year but the boys were far more competitive in all games. As an example of this we beat the 4th placed team and got to within a point of the 3rd placed team. If we had kicked just 2 more goals per game we would have finished 7 -7 and may have played finals. The league certainly didn’t do us any favours when they changed the fixture and we ended up playing the same teams who had beaten us the past two weeks again the following two weeks. This and then a big loss to the top (unbeaten) team sapped the boy’s confidence who at that stage had been very competitive in all our games.

- 40 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

I was very proud of the boy’s efforts this season as they didn’t give up and could come off the ground each week with their heads held high. They listened and tried to carry out skills and tasks from what they had learned at training. Training was conducted at a high standard each week and the preparation and enthusiasm on game day from the boys was excellent. Again, I’m looking forward to coaching this TEAM next season

Under 13 White – Coach Ash Charles

Season 2014 started with the group training session, we were not sure if there was going to be one or two Under 13 teams. The club decided to go with two teams and I think both sides struggled at different stages throughout the year with numbers. This was the correct decision as having over 30 players would have been terrible for player development and also player retention. Playing at the same time as the under 12 we had to rely on players coming up from the Under 11’s, I would like to say thank you the Darren Guinea for supporting us when we were short. The players, Josh Guinea and Jai Sears benefited from the experience and got in and had a real go. Thanks also to Caden and Noah from the under 12’s for playing when their draw allowed. We had a fantastic start to the year winning the first two games, from there our season turned for the worse, winning one more game for the season. I couldn’t be prouder of our players as they turned up to training, listened and kept improving. It would’ve been really easy to give up or drop off but all our players were fantastic. Our trophy winners were Chad Mulvogue Best and Fairest, Mitch Charles runner up Best and Fairest, Bayden Werner Third Best and Fairest. My Coach’s Award went to Ben McDonald. Ben’s Improvement this year has been outstanding, from a player whom hasn’t influenced many games before this year, he held down a back pocket or back flank and was rarely beaten. It was fantastic to watch his improvement and development. Chad is clearly our best player winning the best and fairest each year it has been awarded. Chad is not only an outstanding player but he is a pleasure to coach, wants to learn and leads his team mates in a positive manner. Mitch has developed into a good midfielder. His decision making is good and leads his team mates well. The defensive side of his game has improved greatly. Bayden is our best full back, holding together our backline which was under significant pressure for most of the year. Later in the season he went into the ruck and gave our onballers first use of the ball. His season was outstanding. Our best game of the season was against Carrum Patterson Lakes the second time we played them. Carrum Patterson Lakes finished second this year and have played off in the grand final the last couple of years. I played all players in their best positions and was pleasantly surprised how well we played. The scoreboard has been taken down every time we have played them but this day was different. They had a massive ruckman giving their onballers first use of the ball but our ball movement outside around the ground was significantly better than theirs. Our half forwards presented up to the ball. Our defenders ran of half back really well and carried the ball well. Making really good decisions with the ball. In the end we got beaten by 40 points but by far this was our best performance. I was really pleased with the improvement of all the players and hopefully all will return to play next year.

I would like to say thank you to all the parents, although not winning a lot of games we had a great season in a really tough division. Thank You to Glen Robinson for an outstanding job as team manager. Daniel Anderson was a great runner with a huge knowledge of the game. Greg, Craig as trainers thank you also. Nicole as the time keeper, Dave as the goal umpire, Steve boundary umpire and all the other parents which helped it made my job easier.

Thank You for the opportunity to coach the under 13 whites. Regards Ash Charles

Under 14 Blue – Coach Steve Dormer

Stepping in to coach this year was a big decision and an assignment that I knew wasn’t going to be easy. I had a 3 year plan and in this season the goal was about team building and fitness whilst trying to establish the boy’s strengths and opportunities for improvement. We lost 6 players from last season and we struggled for numbers in the lead up to round 1. Fortunately we managed to firm up our numbers and we kicked off the season with 20 players. The fixture ended up an absolute debacle and we saw ourselves playing against some pretty hot teams, including Blue Division, which for the better part didn’t really do much for anyone’s self-esteem. That being said, we started to learn a lot about ourselves and despite some enormous one sided contests the boys kept turning up each week, kept positive and above all kept working hard in an effort to improve themselves and the team. I could see improvement in the boys and believed they were capable of better but wasn’t sure they believed in themselves. When you are getting belted week in week out it’s very easy to forget how to have fun! Midway through the season the league finally changed the fixture and although I felt we didn’t really belong in Gold Division we had no choice but to move forward and make the most of the remaining season. A call to Kyle Burns to gauge his interest in helping us out saw him come down and watch us take on Seaford in R7 where we were absolutely smashed. Speaking with Kyle after the game he was confident that there was plenty to work with and was happy to jump on board. Our aim was not so much about winning but being competitive and the boys enjoying their footy. Kyle introduced some new drills and the boys were enjoying the mix up. Next game against Rovers we were well beaten but for the first time all season the scoreboard stayed up!!! The boys had a red hot go and showed some great signs that had us all thinking we could potentially snatch a finals spot…but that was pretty short lived losing our next 5 in a row. It was in R9 where we had 5 boys out either injured or sick that we thought the boys actually played well and to their credit ran hard all day in the mud bath at Chelsea but ended up losing pretty convincingly by 50 points. In the wash up we felt if we could keep improving in that manner and we could get our team back together we could still be competitive for the remainder of the season and maybe even snatch a win. R10 we played ladder leaders Mt Eliza and although we went down by 6 goals you could see a lot of improvement and a number of the things we had been working on at training actually being done. It really came down to being more consistent and having all the boys contributing for 4 quarters. Rounds 11, 12 & 13 were all losses in excess of 10 goals however we could see glimpses of steady improvement in each of those games. The boys were working hard at training and going in to the last round we had a strong belief that if the boys could put it all together they could win their last game against Chelsea. R14….Vs Chelsea…At home on Lloyd 3….A must win game for Chelsea to make finals…We had 2 Senior players Mark & Corey come down and support the boys in their final game. We had 4 boys from the 13s kindly help us to have a bench. This was a game we thought the boys could win and we used every bit of energy we had trying to tell

- 44 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report them they could win and to believe in themselves! What transpired was an amazing competitive performance by ALL the boys which saw them hold on to a fast finishing Chelsea outfit!! To hear the boys sing the song in the rooms after the game was absolute gold!! Some may say our season was disappointing in terms of win/loss ratio but I would like to think that our season was one that taught us a great deal about ourselves. Life in itself is never easy, but never give up no matter how hard the going gets….. We only get out what we are prepared to put in. The boys showed a hell of a lot of character to keep turning up each week and I am confident that they have all improved as individuals and the last game demonstrated just that as well as the power of working together as one team!!! Hopefully you will one day look back at this as encouragement to know that if you stay positive and back yourselves that you can do anything. Thankyou to the LJFC for giving me the opportunity to coach the 14 Blues. A huge thanks to my family, Karen, Courtney, James and Josh for your wonderful help and support throughout the year. Your patience, understanding and support to me is so much appreciated J A huge thanks to Kyle Burns for giving up his valuable time to be a part of this wonderful group of boys and for giving me a first-hand education in coaching. A huge thanks to all the parents that helped us out this season, so very much appreciated. A huge thanks to the U13 coaches and boys who stepped up for us when we needed numbers. And finally, a massive thankyou to Sherryll Peacock our wonderful Team Manager. Under 14 White – Coach Anthony King

2014 started as a trying year. With depleted numbers at the start of the season and having to hand one player over to the Blues to even out numbers. Our starting list for Round 1 was 17. In the coming two weeks we had another leave to pursue his football elsewhere which put more strain on the team. Fortunately we had a player return that was part of the team in 2012 which at least had us fill a side. This was short lived after just one game he was injured and out for 5-6 weeks. The bad luck continued with another key player out for 6 with a hand injury and another with a broken leg which was season ending. At this point Rnd 3-4 we were filling our side with as many as 5 or 6 U113s per game. Quite a low point of the season. Eventually we regained a couple of players and with the help of 4 U13 players every week we were able to turn what looked like a wooden spoon award to a Preliminary playoff with a very good chance of a Grand Final appearance. With the introduction of the Team Handbook around Round 5 which outlined, Team Philosophy and Season Aim, Team Rules for Forwards, Midfields and Backs. The importance of Self Belief and Encouraging your team mates The role everyone had to play to turn things around. At that low point I set about changing the way we approached our training sessions. Focus on self confidence and introduce new methods to get the team fitter, stronger and more united. We focussed on actual game scenarios and I put players under the pressure of being constantly outnumbered. This gave them confidence when dealing with the same pressures in game situations. Running Open Footy. Modelled on Essendon. Actual Senior style Clearance Plays and Diamond Structures used in Stationary and Movement situations. Backline Clearance, Midfield Set Plays and attacking Forward penetration play from out wide and switching through Half forward when opposition were flooding. The boys loved the challenge and brought it into the game gradually over the next 4-5 weeks. It was magical to watch as they began to read the play in advance and almost predict what their team mates actions would be. Come 1st Semi. They looked Untouchable and Polished in every aspect of the game. Never looked panicked and were concise with every disposal and had developed a handball game second to none in our division and those higher from what I saw during the finals series. The season journey proved to be a great bonding experience and a fantastic opportunity for all players regardless of ability to find something within to play a key role in every single match from Round 7 onwards. These achievements weren’t measured on the scoreboard. They were in passages of play and improved by extending the time the team could put these into practice. Our run home was stuff legends are made of. It would have been a fairy tail ending to get into the Grand Final and possibly Win. The results speak for them selves. Games against Carrum Downs during the Season saw a 56 point loss in Rnd 3 to a 72 point win in the 1st Semi Final. (22 Goal turn around in 12 weeks). Games against Frankston YCW 32 point loss in Rnd 7 to a 103 point Win in Rnd 12 (Another 22 Goal turn around in 5 weeks)! Pretty good for a team with 4 Under 13’s playing in it. And undoubtedly the smallest side in the division. This playing group all

- 46 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report agree there is unfinished business in 2015. A 99% commitment of re-registration in 2015 of the team and all are already anxious to get next year underway. For me, it was a huge challenge which was well rewarded by the trust, efforts and belief shown by all of the playing group that we could be a force come finals time only 7 weeks out. That’s the third finals appearance in 4 years. U11’s Preliminary, U12’s missed out by 2 goals, U13’s First Semi Final, Under 14’s Preliminary. Each one of these gives these boys a bit more experience in finals football. As we know it’s a whole new level and it’s these opportunities that get them ready for the one year where the little bit of luck you need to win a Grand Final comes your way on the day.

Under 15 – Coach Matt Watts

With the under fifteens this year the numbers were strong but it was a case of just not enough to fill two teams meaning thirty boys were about to come together to make one new football team.

With such a high number in one team this not only created a great challenge for the boys and coach but also created a great opportunity to meet some new people and build some new friendships.

With half of the team from gold division and the other half from blue division our first decision as a group was made and that was to challenge ourselves and push to play in the top division. I personally saw this as an opportunity for the boys who would be coming up from gold division to now test themselves at the higher level. Also the boys who had been playing blue division with limited numbers the past few years would now have some support to help them compete.

To the boys credit they pulled together during the pre season and it wasn't long before the coming together of two teams had been forgotten and a new team had risen.

TEAM - a group of individuals who support each other in the pursuit of a common purpose.

The start of the season and a huge reality check for everyone when in the first two weeks we came across two of the stronger teams from blue division and with our tails between our legs we walked away with ten goal plus losses.

Thankfully the boys continued their hard work on the track and then strung three wins in a row together giving the group a huge lift in confidence and a bond was been built which was a great feeling to be around.

With a lot of talk about respect, discipline, sacrifice and team work the feeling was as if this team had been together for years not just a handful of games. Our training was great with hard work and a good laugh in between we had definitely built something where we could not only push ourselves but also enjoy ourselves.

With the fixture returning to the start again it was now time to be tested as to how far we had come. Ten goal losses had now become two and three goal losses and with that came the belief that we belong in this division and it would only be a matter of time before we knock one of these top teams off.

With the next few weeks form a little up and down we were looking for some

- 48 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report consistency as finals were approaching and we needed to win some of our last few games to give ourselves an opportunity to play some finals football.

With fourth place up for grabs the time to put words into actions had arrived and round eleven was without doubt a moment that changed our football team, beating a team which some in the group had not beaten for eight years.

This gave us a huge lift and is a moment that made us one and a moment I will never forget. With a big scalp under our belt we moved forward and earned our position in the finals. A great reward for all of the boys and with some having never played finals it was also a great experience.

Our opposition on the day were an experienced finals team and the challenge was set. With three quarters of intense even finals footy it came down to the last quarter and we just couldn't push over the top running out of legs and going down by five goals.

It was an amazing effort from a group of young men who came together at the start of the year not having played with each other and with some onlookers not giving us a chance of getting anywhere near finals footy.

With discipline, respect, sacrifice and hard work the boys have built a team with spirit and belief.

Respect was earned from opposition players and coaches with their comments on how far we had come over the season something I am very proud of. Discipline and effort became an expectation within the group and a willingness to sacrifice a given.

The most positive and proudest moments over the season were to see the group bond and grow, to see the respect for each other, the tolerance and patience for each other. The passion for our team and jumper took us further than we thought we could go but united we earned respect.

With belief and trust in each other we built a strong foundation...... how high we go is up to us.

Under 16 Blue – Coach Clayton McDonald

At our pre-season camp we discussed our goals for the year. We thought we had a good enough group to strive for a top 2 finish & if we worked hard enough maybe even try for Langwarrin JFC’s first ever U/16 Premiership. We were inconsistent all year, as a team & as individuals. We had to deal with numerous setbacks & adversities. I was really impressed with the groups resolve & resilience though. Time & again we were able to dust ourselves down & strive to be better. It did seem however, that when we were able to create some momentum something would jump up to stop us in our tracks – we’d take a few steps forward & then we’d be forced to take a step backward. That trend continued throughout the season. During the pre-season, I agreed to quite a few players training just the one night a week. This compromised my coaching philosophies & beliefs but it had to be done so we could firm up our numbers. I think to be successful we must have 100% commitment across the board – there’s nothing like 20 or more guys on the track each & every night, encouraging one & other, ensuring that drills are done properly & creating energy & enthusiasm – the momentum & belief that can be created is the very least that is required to be successful in the competition we play in. Having said that every boy was 100% committed to working hard with a view to improving when they could get to training. On game days everyone was totally committed to contributing to the team being successful too. We did have some fantastic days. Beating the eventual Premiers with the last kick of the day, mid-season, & dominating the other grand finalists, at home, toward the end of the season. As I said earlier the desire to keep working hard during an inconsistent year meant that we did improve toward the end of the year & we gave ourselves a chance at fulfilling our goals. At the end of the season though, we’d fallen just short of our goal of finishing top 2 (by percentage) with a 10-4 record which meant we went into a knock-out semi-final against YCW Yellow. We had beaten every team in the competition beside YC Yellow & whilst we gained some confidence by playing better football at the right end of the season we knew we’d have to be on our game to proceed further than our Semi-Final. Our season ended abruptly with a very disappointing performance. We were all absolutely gutted. At the end of the day our disappointment was tinged with some regret. We know as a group we were capable of better. It was a brutal reminder that in sport, the possibility of not fulfilling our potential is the most likely outcome when we don’t or can’t commit.

I’ve always said though, that the measure of our success should never be the score, our position on the ladder or our win loss record. Continually striving to be better footballers & people has always been our primary goal. From this point of view I think the season was a resounding success.

It was an absolute honour & privilege to coach such a fantastic group of young men – thank you to all of you.

Under 16 White – Coach Craige Milward

Things to a little longer than expected at the start of the year to allocate players to teams seeing that we were merging down from 3 teams in 2013 to 2 teams this year so we didn’t really know the makeup of our team until just before the season started which wasn’t ideal for planning the coming season. Once the numbers were finalised we always knew it was going to be a challenging year as the whites ended up with 28 players on their list which meant that it was always going to be tuff to please everybody. The another challenge that I had was that most of these boys I hadn’t Coached before so I wasn’t sure what to expect and the players themselves didn’t know what to expect either. The few weeks that we had together as a team prior to the season opener I thought was working extremely well, we had great attendance at training and all the boys seemed to be really enthused and really willing to learn the new game plan. We had agreed that the boys would vote for their Captains for the season and this was done via a private vote – reconciled and counted by Vin. The boys had voted in some great leaders with Pat L’Huillier being Captain, Jake Milward & Josh Holloway our Vice Captains. Vin and I also wanted to add to the leadership group with a couple of boys who had showed some great leadership qualities during our training session and thoroughly deserved to be part of that group.

With the season now upon us I truly believed that we had a very skilful and talented bunch of boys. It would be a bit of a test for some of them as half the side was stepping up from Yellow division last year into Blue division but many were well equipped to take the step.

We were very competitive in all our games except for probably 2 which was against the eventual premiers in Edithvale Aspendale and the grand finalist of Mt Eliza. Only the first time we played them we struggled but certainly took it right up to them come the second time round.

Our main issue this year was our consistency – We probably won and got close to winning in games we weren’t supposed to and struggled and were beaten in games that you think we should win. I know that our rotations probably contributed a bit to this as we never really had a settled side with players being rotated through certain positions on the ground and not getting a chance to hold down that position long term.

To the boys credit our training numbers never really dropped away and even the boys who were continually used through the rotations continued to turn up and train.

- 52 - Langwarrin Junior Football Club 2014 Annual Report

During the season we had a couple of nights that we used as bonding sessions – trying to get the boys who had come from 2 sides to really get to know each other, these nights wouldn’t be possible except for a wonderful group of Dad’s who put their own hand in the pockets and provided a great night with plenty of Pizzas and drinks to go around. A massive thankyou to Adrian, Norm, Jamie and Brenden.

I had a real belief right through the season that we would manage to play finals this year and that we would click together at the right time of the season, unfortunately with a couple of other games not going according to plan and a couple of games that we let slip – one in particular ( Seaford ) saw ourselves miss out on the finals.

This was a really disappointing part to the year as I truly believe that we had the most talented group not only at langy but possibly in the League.

I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea and we try and set high standards and expect a fair bit from the boys but we need to remember that we aren’t playing Under 12’s anymore – we are playing in a completion which is strong and to be competitive you need to apply yourself at 100% all of the time.

I have really enjoyed the challenge this year dealing with the playing group but looking back at season’s end I truly believe there were a couple of boys just going through the motions.

I challenge all the boys if they are going on to play Under 17’s to start now and get yourself cherry ride to compete as it will only get harder from here and you need to be ready.

Before I go a massive thankyou to Vin L’Huillier and Robert Prosser as without these 2 guys’ things would’ve been even harder, these 2 blokes love the game of footy, have a massive amount of experience and the best bit they are willing to share it.

As announced at presentation night I won’t be going around next year to Coach the under 17’s but good luck to whoever is going to do it as they have a very skilful team at their disposal.

Good luck Boys and thanks for the memories.
