ABOUT INTERVALES STATE PARK The Atlantic Forest is one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world. This fantastic park is located in the Serra de Paranapiacaba, a mountain range about 280 km southwest of the city of São Paulo. Lush Atlantic rain forest on an altitudinal gradient is home to both lowland species such as the Black-cheeked Gnateater and also those found at higher altitudes like Rusty-barred Owl. Intervales State Park is a great place to see such as Black-fronted Piping Guan, Helmeted , Pale-browed Treehunter, Blue-bellied Parrot, Spot-winged Wood-Quail, Red-breasted Toucan, Giant and White-bearded Antshrike, Surrucura Trogon, Mantled Hawk, Hooded Berryeater, Black-legged Dacnis, Crescent-chested Puffbird, Squamate Antbird, Buffy-fronted and Temminck’s Seedeater, White-breasted Tapaculo and Red-and-white Crake.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

July 10th – Meet ALL the participants at University of São Paulo at 6:00am

July 15th – Return to the University of São Paulo at 6:00pm

Transfer by van or mini-bus to Intervales State Park (around 4hs drive). Check-in and lunch. Afternoon birding around the lodge until the end of the day looking for birds such the Yellow-fronted Woodpecker, Large-tailed Antshrike, Azure-shouldered , Sharpbill, Golden-winged Cacique, Green-throated Euphonia, Highland Elaenia, Rufous-capped Antshrike and many others. Dinner and checklist.

Day 1 - July 10 • Meet ALL the participants at University of São Paulo at 6:00am. Transfer to Intervales State Park. Check in at the hotel located inside the park. Target birds will be Black-fronted Piping Guan, Pale-browed Treehunter, Spot-winged Wood- Quail, Red-breasted Toucan, Swallow-tailed , Black-legged Dacnis, Squamate Antbird and White-breasted Tapaculo, Robust Woodpecker, Sharpbill, Giant, Large- tailed and White-bearded Antshrike. Night birding for Tawny-browed Owl, Least Pygmy-Owl, Rusty-barred Owl, Mottled Owl, Buff-fronted Owl, Long-trained Nightjar and Short-tailed Nighthawk. Dinner and checklist.

Day 2 - July 11 • Early breakfast and all day birding at Intervales, on trails in the Atlantic Forest. Target birds will be Blue-bellied Parrot, Red-capped Parrot , Pavonine Cuckoo, Rufous-capped Motmot, Hooded Berryeater, Bare-throated Bellbird, Bertoni’s Antbird, Ochre-rumped Antbird, Hangnest Tody-Tyrant, Variegated Antpitta, Bay- ringed Tyrannulet, Brown Tanager, Pin-tailed, Blue and Greenish Manakin, Buffy- fronted and Temminck’s Seedeater. Night birding. Dinner and checklist.

Day 3 - July 12 • Early breakfast and all day birding at Intervales, on trails in the Atlantic Forest. Target birds will be Black-billed Scythebill, Red-and-White Crake, Black Hawk-eagle, Mantled Hawk, Saffron Toucanet, Spot-billed Toucanet, Yellow- fronted Woodpecker, Ochre-collared Piculet, Rusty-breasted Nunlet, Cinnamon Piha, Gray-bellied Spinetail and Oustalet’s Tyrannulet. Night birding. Dinner and checklist.

Day 4 - July 13 • Early breakfast and all day birding at Intervales, on trails in the Atlantic Forest. At this day we will be looking for species that we have not seen and that we will not have a chance to see in another location.

Day 5 - July 14 • Early breakfast and all day birding at Intervales, on trails in the Atlantic Forest.At this day we will be looking for bird species that we have not seen and that we will not have a chance to see in another location.

Day 6 - July 15 • Early breakfast. Birding at Intervales until lunch time looking for bird species that we have not seen and that we will not have a chance to see in another location. Check out of hotel and lunch. Transfer São Paulo city. End of the trip.
