A Report of Exploration on Dima Hasao District of Assam Under Annual Plan 2015-16
1 A REPORT OF EXPLORATION ON DIMA HASAO DISTRICT OF ASSAM UNDER ANNUAL PLAN 2015-16 In pursuance of Govt. Order no.ARCH.57/pt/Dima Hasao/2015-16/1233, dated, the 17th February, 2016, a team of archaeological Officer and staffs of the Directorate of Archaeology, Assam have conducted extensive survey and exploration in the Dima Hasao District since 23/02/2016 to 9/03/2016. The team was guided by Shri Nabajit Deori, Technical Officer of the Directorate. The other members of the team were Sri Apurba Gogoi, Photographer, Sri Arupjyoti Deori, Forman, Md, Hussain Ali and Sri Uttam Saho, Data entry operator (CA).The District Cultural Officer of Dima Hasao district and in-charge of District Archaeology, Shri P.Jemi has extended all possible help and support to the team. Further he regularly deputed Shri P. Hmar, instructor, District Cultural Office and B. Fanglu, monument attendent with the team. Dr. Deepirekha Kouli, Director, Directorate of Archaeology, Assam has joined with the team at the latter part of the exploration and authenticated the explored sites. After reaching at Haflong, the District head quarter of Dima Hasao, the team assembled with the District authority and the North- Cachar Hills Autonomous Council. The team discussed about the execution of the exploration with Sri Debojit Thousen, the then Hon’ble Chief Executive Member of the NC Hills Council, Haflong. The Dima Hasao District. Dima-Hasao, earlier known as North Cachar Hills District is located at the southern part of Assam. The district lies in E- 92°25'30" to 92°42'30"latitudes and N-24°56'30" to 25°51'10" longitudes. -

The main objectives are to document and highlight the achievement of the department in execution of infrastructure as construction agency of the Gov- ernment. This process of publication of Annual Report is a legacy carried over from the process of submitting Annual Administrative Report during the time of CPWD in the State. During the year 2017-18, the achievements in construction of infrastructure under PWD were collected and the first edition of the annual report was published. The Annual Report 2017-18 & 2018-19 was circulated to all stake holders and made available in the official website www.arunachalpwd.org. The Annual Report 2018-19 was rated and ready reference source for important achieve- ments of PWD during 2018-19 and references for guidelines of CSS schemes being executed by PWD. In addition, while circulating the Annual Report 2018-19, it was requested that henceforth, the Annual Report shall be made an annual affair and to make it more befitting document for highlighting the achievements in each year, it was -re quested that the information may be submitted in time and as per the prescribed format, after the compilation of the financial and physical account of each preceding year. -

BOLONGON, TAN CHENG CHENG, NORAZLINDA RAZAK, NORSYAMIMI ROSLI, MOHD AZIZOL AZIZ & KALIP MATKASIM ABSTRACT Slow lorises (Nycticebus) consist of eight species native to Southeast Asia while three species are recognised in Malaysia - N. coucang, N. menagensis and N. kayan. This study reports on the rediscovery of the subspecies N. coucang insularis Robinson, 1917 in Tioman Island and the genetic assessment of its mitochondrial DNA variation. Morphological measurements conform the specimen as the putative N. coucang but with distinct colour and markings. Two mitochondrial DNA segments (cytochrome b and control region) were produced from the subspecies representing their first registered sequences in GenBank. Genetically, the subspecies showed 99% of nucleotide similarity to N. coucang species type for both the DNA segments and constitute its own unique haplotype. Phylogenetic trees constructed using three methods (neighbour joining, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference) showed two major groups within Nycticebus; the basal group was formed by N. pygmaeus while the second group consisted of the remaining Nycticebus species. The phylogenetic position of the subspecies, however, remains unresolved due to the observed mixing between N. coucang and N. bengalensis. Several reasons could lead to this condition including the lack of well documented voucher specimens and the short DNA fragments used. -

Histrical Background Changlang District covered with picturesque hills lies in the south-eastern corner of Arunachal Pradesh, northeast India. It has an area of 4,662 sqr. Km and a population of 1,48,226 persons as per 2011 Census. According to legend the name Changlang owes its origin to the local word CHANGLANGKAN which means a hilltop where people discovered the poisonous herb, which is used for poisoning fish in the river. Changlang District has reached the stage in its present set up through a gradual development of Administration. Prior to 14th November 1987, it was a part of Tirap District. Under the Arunachal Pradesh Reorganization of Districts Amendment Bill, 1987,the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, formally declared the area as a new District on 14th November 1987 and became 10th district of Arunachal Pradesh. The legacy of Second World War, the historic Stilwell Road (Ledo Road), which was constructed during the Second World War by the Allied Soldiers from Ledo in Assam, India to Kunming, China via hills and valleys of impenetrable forests of north Burma (Myanmar) which section of this road is also passed through Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh and remnant of Second World War Cemetery one can see at Jairampur – Nampong road. Location and Boundary The District lies between the Latitudes 26°40’N and 27°40’N, and Longitudes 95°11’E and 97°11’E .It is bounded by Tinsukia District of Assam and Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh in the north, by Tirap District in the west and by Myanmar in the south-east.
