Icsv22 - Expo and More in Milan 1 ICSV22 - EXPO AND MORE IN MILAN 1 In this booklet you can find some suggestions of events which will take place in Milan in July 2015. Expo 2015 is the next scheduled Universal Exposition after Expo 2012, and will be hosted by Milan, Italy, between 1 May and 31 October 2015. A list of main events related to Expo 2015 and other exhibitions and musical events in Milan that can be visited in and around the ICSV22 days is presented for those who want to live an experience of full immersion in the Italian culture during their stay. Referring to the theme of the Symposium, they care not only of the relationship, often in conflict, between noise and environment, but also of the protection and promotion of the territory, of the prevention of hydro-geological disasters and of risks for worker’s health, of the management of natural resources, of the use of new technologies in the food industry. This Symposium, held by international experts, is aimed at researchers, teachers, students, engineers in acoustics, operators of public administrations, members of scientific societies and associations, designers and technicians from industries. The Symposium will be held at the Auditorium of the Cascina Triulza inside the EXPO. Programme - Conservation and improvement of rural and urban-green-areas soundscape - Impact and reduction of noise emission from wind farms - Use of ground vibration sensors for landslide monitoring and land conservation - Noise effects on terrestrial and marine fauna - Acoustical estimation of fish biomass - Noise and vibration risks for agriculture and fishing employees - Use of vegetation for noise control - Sound insulation and absorption of acoustic materials of vegetable origin - Food control and processing by means of ultrasounds - Role of the sound in food perception ICSV22 - EXPO AND MORE IN MILAN 3 THE UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION Expo Milano 2015 is the Universal Exhibition that Milan, Italy, will host from May 1 to October 31, 2015. Over this six-month period, Milan will become a global showcase where more than 140 participating countries will show the best of their technology that offers a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium. In addition to the exhibitor nations, the Expo also involves international organizations, and expects to welcome over 20 million visitors to its 1.1 million square meters of exhibition area. A platform for the exchange of ideas and shared solutions on the theme of food, stimulating each country’s creativity and promoting innovation for a sustainable future, Expo 2015 will give everyone the opportunity to find out about, and taste, the world’s best dishes, while discovering the best of the agri-food and gastronomic traditions of each of the exhibitor countries. Expo Milano 2015 will talk about the problems of nutrition and the resources of our planet. The idea is to open up a dialogue between international players, and to exchange views on these major challenges which impact everyone. ICSV22 - EXPO AND MORE IN MILAN 4 Expo Milano 2015 examines human history through the lens of two aspects of food production: traditional cultural values and the use of new technologies. These two aspects do not stand apart, but are very much interconnected. Besides being an opportunity for industry players to meet, the Universal Exposition is part of a cultural journey that aims to highlight the changes that the entire population of the planet is currently facing. From Lombardy to Piedmont, and beyond, the Italian regions are preparing to welcome visitors to Expo Milano 2015, revealing to the world their historical and artistic heritage, as well as their cuisine. The Italian Pavilion will concentrate on exposing the national food culture and tradition in terms of very high quality products and finished goods. Italy’s presence can be seen both inside the exposition areas, along the Cardo and at Palazzo Italia, the representative building where Italian State and Government representatives will be based. LEONARDO DA VINCI: 1452- 1519 Leonardo Exhibition at the Royal Palace is the largest Palazzo Reale 15 April – 19 July 2015 and most important ever organized. It reconstructs the life and the multifaceted, brilliant and original personality of Leonardo da Vinci. It also describes the artist’s studies ranging from art to engineering, from set design to science. 2. THE GREAT WAR. ART AND ARTISTS AT THE FRONT The exhibition starts with an investigation of the historical season that preceded the Great War and then Gallerie d’Italia – Piazza Scala focuses on the artists who participated in the conflict. 1 April –24 August 2015 The exhibition presents paintings and sculptures, and concludes with the artists who celebrated the victory and built the myth of the Great War in the years which partly coincided with the rise of Fascism. 3. JUAN MUÑOZ For the first time in Italy the sculptures of this great Hangar Bicocca artist are exposed. 9 April – 23 August 2015 The exhibition also includes some of his most significant works, Double Bind, realized for the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern in London. ICSV22 - EXPO AND MORE IN MILAN 6 EVENT DESCRIPTION Place and Date 4. THE PRIMACY OF DRAWING. Pinacoteca di Brera The drawings of great artists compared to Pinacoteca’s 28 April – 19 July 2015 masterpieces from the Primitives to Modigliani. The primacy of drawing is the concept behind the exhibition through a path from the fourteenth to the twentieth century which shows how the deep soul of the painting is the design. Precious sheets of paper of major artists , from Primitives to Modigliani in close relationship with the paintings. A refined and rich exhibition of rare masterpieces. 5. THE PRINCE OF DREAMS. Joseph in the tapestries by The exhibition brings together, for the first time after Pontormo and Bronzino 150 years, twenty tapestries of the 16th century commissioned by Cosimo I de ' Medici for the Salone dei Duecento in Palazzo Vecchio . The tapestries depict the Palazzo Reale – Sala delle Cariatidi story of Joseph and in 1882 were divided by the will of 28 April – 6 September 2015 the Savoy between Florence and the Palazzo del Quirinale . The exhibition will touch only the cities of Rome , Milan and Florence . 6. THE IDEAL MUSEUM On the occasion of Expo the museum becomes the Museo del Novecento Ideal Museum of the twentieth century . Ten 1 Maggio –15 Settembre 2015 masterpieces from the major museums of Italian art of the twentieth century enrich the already impressive collection of the museum with two works for each room . ICSV22 - EXPO AND MORE IN MILAN 7 EVENT DESCRIPTION Place and Date 7. ANTONELLO DA MESSINA, THE RECOMPOSED For Expo, the triptych by Antonello da Messina is “ TRIPTYCH exposed: Madonna and Child , St. Benedict and St. John the Evangelist”, which is now recomposed after having been divided between the Uffizi in Florence and Museo Bigatti Valsecchi the Sforza Castle in Milan 1 May – 31 October 2015 8. SERIAL CLASSIC This wonderful exhibition is dedicated to classical art Fondazione Prada and focuses on the appropriation of Greek sculpture by 9 May – 24 August 2015 the Romans. 9. I, LEONARDO DA VINCI "I, Leonardo da Vinci , as a witness , as above ditto " is Archivio di Stato the only signature of Leonardo in the world, written in 18 May – 30 October 2015 the contract for the construction the famous Virgin of the Rocks in 1483. This is the jewel of the exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci in Milan, where other four documents will be exposed. ICSV22 - EXPO AND MORE IN MILAN 8 EVENT DESCRIPTION Place and Date 10. DAMIÀN ORTEGA Hangar Bicocca The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most 11 June – 8 November 2015 interesting and iconic contemporary artists on the scene , who revolutionized his work with the idea of sculpture, using common objects and subverting their meanings. 11. THE MYTH OF NATURE IN MAGNA GRAECIA AT The exhibition presents through a selection of POMPEI masterpieces from the classical world, a wide path in the figurative art inspired by nature in its various Palazzo Reale aspects , landscape and human action on nature. 21 July 2015 – 10 January 2016 Painted vases, frescoes , luxury items such as silverware and golden jewelry recreate the atmosphere in the Ancient Rome. 12. “THE KISS” BY FRANCESCO HAYEZ. The famous painting by Francesco Hayez is included in Pinacoteca di Brera a multimedia project which show The Kiss of 1859, the 4 August – 13 September 2015 history of the painting, the figurative and literary source and the historical context.     Vermont History Expo Photograph & News Media Collection, 2000-2012 FB-79 Introduction This collection contains selected newspaper and magazine articles, professional and amateur photographs, and slides of the Vermont History Expo during the years 2000 through 2012. It is housed in two document storage boxes and three archival storage boxes (3.25 linear feet). The core of the collection was transferred to the VHS Library by Sandra Levesque, Expo Coordinator working under contract to the VHS, in 2007. The remainder of the materials have been added from VHS office files. Organizational Sketch The Vermont Historical Society began hosting the Vermont History Expo at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds in Tunbridge, Vermont, for one weekend each June beginning in 2000. The event featured displays by participating local historical societies, museums, historical organizations, period crafters, demonstrators, and re-enactors. In addition there were historic presentations and speakers, musicians, heirloom animal displays and presentations, an authors’ tent, parade, and country auction. Thousands attended the weekend-long event which was held annually until 2008; the event resumed as a biannual event in 2010. The event had its genesis in the Heritage Weekend sponsored by the Cabot Creamery and the Vermont Historical Society in 1999. This event, an open house of historical societies in Washington and Orange Counties for one weekend in June, grew into the Vermont History Expo the following year. Sandra Levesque was the coordinator hired by the VHS to run the event between 1999 and 2006. The Expo event was preceded by a series of workshops for local historical societies on how to create effective displays.

Independently from the actual political situation the Expos’ area became the oasis of peace where the potential antagonisms were expressed through the evocative architecture of pavilions. The Expo pavilions are extraordinary for their temporary character. The temporariness factor and the cost- effectiveness of Expo pavilions’ constructions are juxtaposed with high expectations due to the pavilions prestige and the aesthetic expression.     WHAT REMAINS HISTORY AND LOCATIONS OF WORLD FAIRS This is a chronological list of exhibitions and fairs held throughout the world that gained international attention. A few regional fairs are included if they were significant to the author or for showcasing emerging technology. This list is a compilation from various sources, trying to respect the capitalization traditions from the countries of origin. When controversy arises about the date or name of a fair (should the 1849 fair held in Birmingham, United Kingdom be referred to as “Exhibition of Industrial Arts and Manufacturers” or “Exposition of British Society”) a choice has been made so the checklist remains an index of fairs. Brown text indicates that the fair occurred before the Bureau international des expositions (BIE) on November 22, 1928 or was not sanctioned by them. Purple text also shows the fair was not sanctioned, but indicates there is a link to additional information researched by the author. Black text indicates a BIE sanctioned fair.
