First a young boy found and adopted the then small and fluffy bear cub. He smoked, although he only ever took one puff of the cigarette before swallowing it. Wojtek was rewarded with two bottles of beer and unlimited shower time. And so Wojtek faced many of the horrors endured by human soldiers during the Italian campaign.
