About the artists Fri, Feb 6 at 9pm Cole Williams Brooklyn-bred songwriter, composer, and producer Cole Williams has collaborated with artists including Joss Stone and hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang. She has appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the Wendy Williams Show. In 2006 she was nominated for a Swedish Grammy Award—with Glenn Wish and the New Memphis Orchestra—for “Best Live Performance.” Her latest solo album, Out of the Basement, Out of the Box, is a collection of songs that showcase her pop and R&B roots. Her bands That’sMyCole and People’s Champs have regular residencies at New York City venues including Pianos, RBar, and Asellina. Sat, Feb 7 at 9pm Renée Manning Renée Manning’s robust voice and rich tones have taken her around the world and earned her collaborations with some of the world’s top jazz musicians. She has worked with big bands like the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Orchestra and the Mingus Big Band, and has performed as a featured artist with Earl McIntyre, Lester Bowie, and the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band. Manning has performed at major venues, including the Village Vanguard, Birdland, and La Villa in Paris, among many others. Fri, Feb 13 at 10pm Bradd Marquis Bradd Marquis is a singer-songwriter who exudes the polished charm of old-school singers like Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway. He has released three albums, and the latest, Thank You, is at once an upbeat collection of soulful party music, and a love letter to the most important people in his life. Straddling the line between the secular and spiritual, Marquis writes honest material of life and love lessons. Fri, Feb 20 at 9pm Joshua Van Ness & MOR Joshua Van Ness is a singer-songwriter whose acoustic rock has been featured on two solo albums: 2008’s DNA and 2011’s Discovering the Universe. He formed the band MOR (Men of Rock) in 2008, and the group released its first album, Someday Sessions—a collection of heartfelt rock and soul songs—in 2014. A nine-time Asbury Music Award nominee who once opened for the legendary Richie Havens, MOR returns to BAMcafé with its signature brand of energetic soul-rock. Sat, Feb 21 at 9pm Revolutionary Snake Ensemble Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is a costumed, funk, brass band performing a unique blend of original and traditional music. Led by saxophonist and composer Ken Field, RSE has released three albums: Year of the Snake (2003), Forked Tongue (2008), which spent two months on the CMJ North American Jazz “Top 20” chart, and Live Snakes (2014), which Critical Jazz deemed “spectacular.” The ensemble returns to BAMcafé with a Mardi Gras jubilee. Fri, Feb 27 at 9pm Drue Davis An accomplished singer-songwriter, Drue Davis and his group Red Clay combine elements of 80s and 90s hip-hop music to create a unique style dubbed “rugged soul.” The group’s distinctive musical expertise landed them a spot in Source magazine’s “Unsigned Hype” column. Red Clay has also performed at many venues including CBGB and SOB’s, and has opened for the likes of Erykah Badu, Common, and Talib Kweli. Sat, Feb 28 at 9pm Monifah Monifah debuted on the R&B scene in 1996 with Moods...Moments. In 1997, she contributed to the Heavy D-produced "I Still Love You," featured on the soundtrack of the film Sprung. Her second album, Mo'hogany, featured the hit single "Touch It." In 2012, Monifah appeared in the reality television show R&B Divas on TV One, along with singers Syleena Johnson, Faith Evans, Angie Stone, and others. She appeared on the subsequent second and third seasons of the show. Monifah was featured on Evans' compilation album R&B Divas, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. General Information BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, BAM Rose Cinemas, and BAMcafé are located in the Peter Jay Sharp building at 30 Lafayette Avenue (between St Felix Street and Ashland Place) in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. BAM Harvey Theater is located two blocks from the main building at 651 Fulton Street (between Ashland and Rockwell Places). Both locations house Greenlight Bookstore at BAM kiosks. BAM Fisher, located at 321 Ashland Place, is the newest addition to the BAM campus and houses the Judith and Alan Fishman Space and Rita K. Hillman Studio. BAM Rose Cinemas is Brooklyn’s only movie house dedicated to first-run independent and foreign film and repertory programming. BAMcafé, operated by Great Performances, offers a dinner menu prior to BAM Howard Gilman Opera House evening performances. BAMcafé also features an eclectic mix of live music for BAMcafé Live on Friday and Saturday nights with a bar menu available starting at 6pm.
