Denzel Curry Sender Tabuer Til Tælling I VEGA 2018-07-16 11:00 CEST Denzel Curry sender tabuer til tælling i VEGA VEGA præsenterer Denzel Curry sender tabuer til tælling i VEGA Lille VEGA bliver søndag den 9. december hyldet i tunge beats og mørke tekster, mens Denzel Curry folder sine nye sange ud fra albummet TA13OO. Denzel Curry aka. Det næste i rækken, TA13OO, udkommer ud over to dage i slutningen af juli i tre forskellige akter. A former member of SpaceGhostPurrp's Raider Klan , Denzel Curry is one of the precursors of the new generation of electro coming out of Florida. Now joined by such wild men as Smokepurrp, Ski Mask Da Slump God or the late XXXTentacion, Denzel has created a complex mix, which has been much-covered by his peers. To sum it up, his music is a mixture of very technical rap in the tradition of Memphis and the Three 6 Mafia and a rather more elevated psychedelic tendency taken from Outkast and the Dungeon Family. A pure product of the SoundCloud generation, he made waves with Nostalgic 64 (2013) and then Imperial (2016). At the age of just 23, Denzel Curry shows a disarming maturity and an unflagging versatility on TA13oo , his most ambitious album to date. TA13OO. The South Florida rapper carves out his own lane within the genre known as SoundCloud rap, displaying considerable versatility as he channels the pain and confusion of youth. Featured Tracks: In the chaotic arena that is SoundCloud rap, Denzel Curry has etched out his own distinct realm. Presumably he doesn’t mind being tagged as a SoundCloud rapper, as murky and hard to define as that term is. It was just in May that Curry went to the mattresses to uphold his version of the genre’s history, using Twitter and interviews to torpedo Smokepurpp’s claim to have fathered the movement.

He started his career at age 16 as part of the hip hop collective Raider Klan. He released his first solo album while he was still in high school. In May 2019, Denzel released his fourth album, ZUU. He made it with the Australian production duo FnZ, who have been collaborating with him since 2016. The album was named “Best New Music” by PItchfork, and Denzel made his TV debut on The Tonight Show. In this episode, Denzel Curry and FnZ break down the song “RICKY,” which was named after Denzel’s father. (“RICKY” by DENZEL CURRY) Denzel: My name is Denzel Curry. (Music fades out) Denzel: The day this song started, man, we was just, we was all in the studio. I just got off of a tour in Australia, and I was like, “When I get back we're going to go in,” because I was still trying to keep the momentum up as much as I can. I didn't want to lose that or disappear for another two years, so as soon as I came back, we just went straight to the studio the next day. Michael: My name is Michael aka Finatik. Niggers and Japs Right-wing hip-hop and the black model minority in Japan A Dissertation Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Cornel University in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Dexter Lee Thomas, Jr May 2020 © 2020 Dexter Lee Thomas, Jr. Abstract NIGGERS AND JAPS: RIGHT-WING HIP-HOP AND THE BLACK MODEL MINORITY IN JAPAN Dexter Lee Thomas Jr , Ph.D. Cornell University 2020 Right-wing, nationalist hip-hop shouldn’t exist, but it does in Japan. This is the starting point – but this dissertation ends up ends up expanding into several forms of pop culture. By examining what “blackness” means in Japan, I work to challenge assumptions about what “black” music means everywhere. I begin in 2015, in a Tokyo street, as an underground rap artist performs an anthem at a rally for a far-right wing mayoral candidate. Through a review of a handful of minor and major artists, I show that it is precisely because the Japanese hip-hop scene “respects” black people and is interested in black politics that it has become compatible with nationalism and the right wing. I then step back two decades to 1995, to examine a hip- hop comic book written by a woman who simultaneously achieved two things: accidentally exposed an early Japanese hip-hop scene struggling with being labeled “black wannabes” by mainstream society (while their counterparts who performed “white” music were able to express themselves freely), and also helped the scene out, by launching the first successful Japanese hip-hop radio show.
