Die Siegesserie des Mexikaners Esteban Gutierrez (Josef Kaufmann Racing) in der Formula BMW Europe reißt nicht ab. Der 16-Jährige aus Monterrey gewann auf dem Hockenheimring zum sechsten Mal in Folge ein Rennen der erfolgreichen Nachwuchsserie. Nach acht von 16 Läufen liegt er mit 226 gesammelten Punkten vor Adrien Tambay (FR/Eifelland Racing, 180 Punkte) und Marco Wittmann (Josef Kaufmann Racing, 150 Punkte). In beiden Rennen verwies Gutierrez den Eifelland-Piloten Tambay und seinen Teamkollegen Wittmann auf die Plätze zwei und drei. Die Zuschauerränge waren gut gefüllt, als die Nachwuchspiloten am Sonntag ihr Rennen im Rahmen des Formel-1-Grand Prix von Hockenheim austrugen. Polesetter Gutierrez gelang es Runde für Runde, sich von der Konkurrenz abzusetzen. Dahinter lag Tambay, der Sohn des ehemaligen F1-Piloten Patrick Tambay, vor Daniel Juncadella (ES/Eurointernational). Der Spanier Juncadella musste in Runde neun für einen kleinen Fahrfehler bezahlen: Wittmann überholte ihn und sicherte sich trotz eines engen Fights bis zur Zieldurchfahrt am Ende den Platz auf dem Podium. Der nächste Stopp der Formula BMW Europe ist der Große Preis von Ungarn vom 1. bis 3. August 2008. 1. Platz Esteban Gutierrez (MX/Josef Kaufmann Racing): Zwei Pole Positions, zweimal schnellste Rennrunde und zwei Siege – ein perfektes Wochenende. Obwohl ich jetzt sechsmal hintereinander gewonnen habe, versuche ich, immer nur von Rennen zu Rennen zu denken. Gedanken um einen Gesamtsieg am Saisonende schiebe ich beiseite.

Nasr dominiert in Spa-Francorchamps, Lombard schnellster Rookie. Spa-Francorchamps, 28. August 2009. Spa-Francorchamps (BE) ist seinem Ruf als herausforderndes Pflaster auch im Qualifying für die beiden Läufe der Formula BMW Europe einmal mehr gerecht geworden. Trotz feuchter Strecke zu Beginn des Zeittrainings gingen Felipe Nasr (BR/Eurointernational), Michael Christensen (DK/Mücke Motorsport) und Oliver Lombard (FR/Eurointernational) ein beeindruckendes Tempo und fuhren die drei schnellsten Runden der Session. Eine Woche nach den Hitzerennen von Valencia (ES) waren die Bedingungen in Belgien mit 15 Grad Celsius Luft- und 22 Grad Celsius Asphalttemperatur für die Piloten deutlich angenehmer. Nach seiner Bestzeit im freien Training lag Jazeman Jaafar (MY/Eifelland Racing) auch im Anschluss an die ersten schnellen Qualifying-Runden an der Spitze des Feldes. Dann übernahmen jedoch Nasr und Christensen, der heute seinen 19. Geburtstag feiert, das Zepter in den Ardennen. Die Zeit war bereits abgelaufen, als Nasr seine entscheidende Runde beendete und sich die fünfte Poleposition in diesem Jahr sicherte. Seine zweitschnellste Rundenzeit war gut genug für den ersten Startplatz für Lauf zwei. Damit erhöhte Nasr seine Pole-Bilanz auf sechs. Lombard gelang im Qualifying zum ersten Mal der Sprung in die Top-3, und zum ersten Mal war der Franzose der schnellste Rookie im Feld. Auch er fuhr seine persönliche Bestzeit, als die 25 Minuten schon abgelaufen waren. Er verwies Robin Frijns (NL/Josef Kaufmann Racing), der eine halbe Sekunde langsamer war und im Gesamtklassement Siebter wurde, in der Rookiewertung auf Rang zwei.
