  • Audi Set on Winning at the Norisring
Communications Motorsport Daniel Schuster Tel: +49 841 89-38009 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi -motorsport.info Audi set on winning at the Norisring • Traveling to the Norisring as leader of the manufacturers’ classification • More than 100,000 fans expected at season’s pinnacle event • Dieter Gass, Head of DTM: “First victory of the season is the aim” Ingolstadt, June 23, 2014 – With six titles clinched in the past decade Audi is the most successful brand in the more recent DTM history. But a victory in its home round at the Norisring has been missing on its tally of success since 2002. Therefore, Audi Sport, the drivers and the teams are particularly motivated before the season’s pinnacle event and the only city street race on the DTM calendar to be held on the weekend of June 27 to 29. From the second-longest to the shortest circuit on the calendar: Following the round in Hungary, the DTM, on racing in the heart of Nuremberg, is returning to Germany. The Audi locations Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm are only 80 and 140 kilometers away from the circuit, which makes the only city street race in the series a double home round for the Audi squad. As in the past years, far more than 100,000 spectators are expected to turn out on the weekend. The characteristics of the Norisring are unique in the world of race tracks. Two long straights, two hairpin turns, a chicane – all on a distance of 2,300 meters, surrounded by concrete walls and high grandstands made of stone.

The new flagship in the BMW M Motorsport portfolio of cars has been taking part in testing weeks at the Spanish racetracks of Monteblanco and Almeria since the start of the year and in doing so has rung in the crucial stage ahead of the initial race appearances. Covering more than 12,000 kilometres already – which equates to more than 60 hours on the track – numerous BMW drivers have worked extremely hard on drivability and reliability, the objective being to significantly reduce the lifecycle costs and maintenance effort compared with the predecessor model. Communications Motorsport Daniel Schuster Tel: +49 841 89-38009 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi-motorsport.info ‘Home round’ for Audi newcomer Jamie Green • Second DTM race of the season at Brands Hatch (GB) on May 19 • Audi squad is dying to make up for Hockenheim • Miguel Molina advertises the 2013 Audi Cup on his Audi RS 5 DTM Ingolstadt/Brands Hatch, May 10, 2013 – A week before the Champions League final, London will be under the banner of motorsport. On its European tour, the DTM will stop on the outskirts of the British capital on May 18 and 19. Following the disappointing season opener, the Audi squad is dying for rectification and in pursuit of this aim is also banking on newcomer Jamie Green, who will be contesting his first ‘home round’ for Audi at Brands Hatch. The first race of the new season showed that the fans are experiencing even more action, overtaking maneuvers and moments of surprise this year due to option tires and a rear wing flap (DRS) that can be adjusted by the driver on the track. Now the fans and the drivers are equally eager to see what effect the innovations will have on the 1.929-kilometer, and thus shortest, circuit on the DTM calendar, and how the relative strengths will pan out on this race track with its unique characteristics. Audi Sport and the Audi Sport Teams Abt Sportsline, Phoenix and Rosberg are tackling the event at Brands Hatch with high motivation. Although Timo Scheider, on clinching the pole position at Hockenheim, set an initial exclamation mark the eight drivers clearly stayed below their potential in the race with position six as the best Audi result and only one more position in the points.

Communications Motorsport Jürgen Pippig Telephone: +49 (0)841 89 34200 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi-motorsport.info Audi in the role of the hunter at the Norisring • Grid positions four, five and six at the DTM home round • Extremely small time gaps in qualifying • Martin Tomczyk best Audi driver Ingolstadt/Nuremberg, July 3, 2010 – Audi will start into Sunday’s DTM race at the Norisring in the role of the hunter. On the so far hottest day of the year Martin Tomczyk, Mattias Ekström and Oliver Jarvis (all from Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline) clinched grid positions four, five and six for Audi. The merely 2.3-kilometer city street circuit between the Dutzendteich lake and the Frankenstadion sports arena has always been difficult territory for the Audi A4 DTM. And this time again the Audi drivers are facing an extremely demanding task. “Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to work out a better starting base for the race,” commented Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich after the qualifying sessions. “At the Norisring, simply everything has got to perfectly fit together – and that wasn’t the case with us today. But everything is still possible from rows two and three on the grid.” After posting the fastest times in both free practice sessions the Audi drivers suggested the potential of the Audi A4 DTM at the Norisring in qualifying as well. Mattias Ekström at 48.334s managed to set the absolutely fastest time of the whole qualifying in the second segment (Q2). Posting a time of 48.379s, Martin Tomczyk in second place in Q3 was just a blink slower.

Audi MediaInfo Audi motorsport history From quattro to e-tron Audi positions itself as the sportiest manufacturer in the premium segment and has a perfect basis to do so: motorsport. Sportiness, advanced technology and emotive design are the basis for the success of the Audi brand. The genes for this have their origin in racing – since 1980. The success story began with the Audi quattro Excluding the era before the Second World War including the legendary Auto Union Grand Prix race cars in the 1930s, the motorsport history of AUDI AG began with the Audi quattro. The dominant victories and two manufacturers’ and two drivers’ titles achieved with the “original quattro” in the World Rally Championship between 1982 and 1984 were an important factor in the market success of quattro drive. quattro victorious in circuit racing as well After Audi had turned rally racing upside down and stormed up Pikes Peak (USA) with the Sport quattro in record time on three successive occasions, Audi made quattro drive fit for circuit racing as well: initially with the Audi 200 quattro and the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO in the United States, in 1990 and 1991 with two championship titles for the Audi V8 quattro in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) – and ultimately also with the A4 in the production- based super touring cars. In 1996, the Audi A4 quattro won championship titles in seven countries. Between 2012 and 2016, the all-wheel drive system returned to the race track as the e-tron quattro. Audi R8 most successful Le Mans sports car in present-day racing After the dominant quattro drive was banned from touring car racing, Audi switched to sports prototypes and underpinned its slogan “Vorsprung durch Technik” in this motorsport category for 18 years as well.

Communications Motorsport Daniel Schuster Tel: +49 151 42134732 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi-motorsport.info Quotes after qualifying at the Nürburgring Ingolstadt/Nürburg, August 16, 2014 – Three Audi RS 5 DTM cars on the first two rows of the grid, five Audi drivers in the top six: quotes by the officials after qualifying at the Nürburgring. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport): “Following the qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring that proved difficult for us, we regained our typical strength. In the race, we’ve traditionally been stronger than in qualifying, that’s why I’m pretty confident that one of our five guys can ultimately make it onto the top step of the podium tomorrow. But, obviously, to do so, they’ll have to get past Marco Wittmann first.” Dieter Gass (Head of DTM): “The starting base is definitely good. With five Audi cars in the top six we’re well set, even though it wasn’t quite enough for clinching the pole position. But looking at Marco Wittmann’s performance, you can only take your hat off. For us it was important to again show a solid team performance at the front and to put ourselves in a position of being in contention for race victory tomorrow.” Edoardo Mortara (Audi Sport Audi RS 5 DTM), grid position 2 “I can hardly believe it. We had six tough qualifying sessions and suddenly we’re running well. We changed something on the set-up and used the full potential today. It was a great qualifying session and I’m very optimistic for the race.” Mike Rockenfeller (Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM), grid position 3 “I’m very pleased with qualifying.
