Show Pony Lead Rein Criteria for National Awards: Ponies must have a current showing card for 2017which must be returned to the IPS Office as soon as the pony has finished competing and before September 23rd. Showing cards must be completed clearly and correctly. Novice Awards are for ponies with the highest number of points accrued in novice classes only. Open awards are for ponies with the highest number of points accrued in open classes only. There is no combination of points in any category. The ‘Points Winner of the Year’ goes to the pony with the highest number of points gained in any one category. The ‘Champion Pony of the Year’ goes to the pony with the most points recorded for champion @ 10pts and Reserve Champion @ 5pts. These points are only recorded for this award and are not listed below. There are no points for Supreme Championships and points are only recorded in the section for which the pony is declared. The ‘Arran Bobby’ is awarded for the registered Connemara Pony that gains the highest number of points in Open or Novice Working Hunter classes. Points gained in Connemara or Mountain & Moorland WHP classes are not included. Where a pony competes in two shows on the same day only one set of points will be recorded for National Awards, but both will be counted towards open/novice status. Classes such as the Tom Robinson Gold Cup, The Champion of Champions, etc. held at the IPS Championship Show do not carry points, nor do derby classes. Where a qualifier for a certain event requires a class to be held separately from one that is already scheduled in the same category, no IPS points are awarded. All Novice classes ridden classes are confined to 4yr old, and 5/6/7 year old ponies that have not obtained 50 points in the relevant category. This does not apply to WHP classes. Ponies registered with a D.O.B prior to 2010 are deemed open. **Ponies that are not registered with the IPS or that are only recently registered will be recorded as ‘OPEN’ until proved otherwise. The onus is on the owner to provide the information to the IPS Office. 2012 ponies start the year with 0 points. For National Awards only ponies competing in both 133cms and starter stakes categories must declare as one or other on the showing card. Points for awards are only counted from the date of issue of the showing card. Points run from March 1st to 23rd September, no points are recorded outside these dates. Open Points: 1st – 8pts, 2nd – 5pts, 3rd – 3pts, 4th- 2pts Novice Points: 1st – 4pts, 2nd – 3pts, 3rd – 2pts, 4th- 1pts • Points will only be awarded to classes that are listed in the show schedule. Where a class is added to the published schedule points will not be awarded unless the change has been posted on the IPS Website a minimum of 5 days before the date of show. Class wording will be taken as per schedule, and in the case of mini classes ‘Open Lead Rein’ or ‘Open First Ridden’ will be taken as ‘Open Show Pony’ as this is the original specification. Points are not awarded for classes specified for unregistered ponies. • Points will not be awarded for classes judged by a person who is not currently on the IPS or BSPS Judges Panel. Remember that Open Lead Rein and First Ridden classes are classified as ‘Show Pony’ unless the schedule clearly specifies ‘Show Hunter’ ANY NOVICE PONY THAT WINS AN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP OR QUALIFIES FOR A MAJOR SHOW HELD IN IRELAND OR OVERSEAS AT A MAJOR SHOW NOT AFFILLIATED TO THE IPS AUTOMATICALLY LOSES ITS NOVICE STATUS. See Rule 116 c (i) & (ii), 140 c (i) & (ii), 164 c (i) & (ii), and includes Intermediate Championships. He is believed to have been married and that his eldest child was named Walter. John Skehan (aa) was baptised on 3rd May 1787. But it must be noted that there is a John Skehan who died 18th May, 1804, aged 77, and is buried at St. Johnstown with other members of the family: but he however would be too old to be same person as above John, and is perhaps the father of Walter (a). I returned to business In Thurles early in 1917, and then went to work for Michael (or 'Mixey') O'Connell, as he was popularly called. O'Connell was a prominent Sinn Feiner and Irish Volunteer and his house in later days became the headquarters of the Mid-Tipperary Brigade.
