Roedd Angel Dinistr wedi lladd popeth byw a daeth Gomer o hyd i gyrff ei gymdogion. Cafwyd nifer o ddamcaniaethau ynglŷn â tharddiad yr Dechreuodd addoli hen dduwiau’r Cymry tra’n enw Bedwellty a’r ddau ystyr mwyaf tebygol yw cerdded ar hyd y wlad gan weiddi ‘Dim bywyd’. Bodfelltau, sef mangre nant gyflym, neu Bedw Alltyd. Ar y trydydd dydd gorffwysodd Gomer ar ben Gellir gweld yr ail bosibilrwydd uchod efallai yn Heol y bryn. Yn y pellter gwelodd olau rhyfedd yn dod Bedw Hirion, yr enw a roddwyd ar y rhan honno o’r Sarn tuag ato. Fel roedd y golau yn nesáu, gwelai ei Hir sy’n arwain o Fedwellty tua’r de. Mae cynigion llai fod ar ffurf angel a ddywedodd wrtho mewn llais tebygol ond llawer mwy rhamantus i’w cael mewn dwy o gydymdeimlad dwys: ‘Byd gwell i ti’. Yn dilyn chwedl leol. hyn, fe chwaraeodd Gomer ran weithgar yn y gwaith o sefydlu eglwys ym Medwellty a’i henwi Yn ôl un traddodiad, os gallai troseddwr ddianc o’r sir a ar ôl yr hyn ddywedodd yr angel. pharhau i fod yn rhydd hyd fachlud haul, ni allai gael ei gyhuddo. Ym 1859 cyhoeddwyd llyfryn gan y Parchedig Edmond Leigh. Mae stori ynddo am hen wreigan a elwid yn Mary Gwaun y Borfa a oedd wedi clywed ei thad yn dweud bod pla wedi diboblogi’r plwyf ar un adeg a bod neb ar ôl i gladdu’r meirw. Dengys cofnodion fod pla wedi taro’r ardal yn 1638. Gwelir bod 82 o bobl wedi marw ohono ac, o ystyried mai tua 142 oedd cyfanswm poblogaeth y plwyf yn 1679, Y ffenest yn dangos y llawfeddyg John gellid gweld mor niweidiol oedd effeithiau’r pla. Eisoes gwelwyd adeiladu wrth iddynt lunio'r Ganolfan Groeso, addasu’r drysle (maze) rhyngweithiol, ffau dreigiau a hen gapel i ddod yn Ganolfan Gymunedol ac, chynnal sesiynau saethu peiriannau gwarchae yn wrth gwrs, y llyfrgell newydd. Dywedir yn y rheolaidd. Ond hefyd mae datblygwyr yn gweld ddogfen Masterplan Basin Caerffili bod galw modd i gael twristiaid i dreulio mwy o amser yn y am wella ffasâd yr adeiladau sy’n wynebu’r dref. Byddai cyfleoedd cyflogaeth yn cynyddu castell. Gallai safle Llys Ifor, â hanes y dref. sydd ar hyn o bryd yn wag, fod yn fodd i wella cyfleoedd parcio wrth ddatblygu Heol y Cilgant a Bu rhai o’n cynghorwyr yn edrych ar ddatblygu Park Lane gan hwyluso mynediad i’r castell o’r gorsaf y dre ymhellach. Mae’n beth da fod y ochr orllewinol. trenau a’r bysiau yn ymgynnull yn yr un man yng Nghaerffili, oherwydd nid felly y mae hi ym mhob tref. Ond mae galw nawr ar gadw llygad ar ddatblygiadau’r Metro bondigrybwyll i weld a allwn ni yng Nghaerffili elwa o fuddsoddiadau sylweddol y Cynulliad ar gyfer rheilffyrdd. Pwynt diddorol arall yw bod y cynllunwyr wedi nodi’r galw am le i barcio beiciau yn ein gorsafoedd rheilffyrdd am nad yw’r trenau bob amser yn gallu dod o hyd i le i feiciau! Yn fwy na hyn mae sôn am ddatblygu’r rheilffordd o’r dref i Gasnewydd gan gynnwys argymhellion am fannau aros ym Mharc Lansbury, Tretomas, Waterloo a Machen.

Summing up in the Senedd By our Assembly Brexit Spokesman Steffan Lewis AM and the Assembly Team Last weekend, Andrew RT Davies, the leader of the Conservatives in Wales, claimed that powers over agriculture should be returned to Westminster when the UK leaves the EU because farmers ‘do not trust’ the Welsh Government. Agricultural policy is currently devolved and the Welsh Government will gain the power to review and amend over 200 pieces of EU regulation that underpin Welsh environmental law after Brexit. Simon Thomas AM, Plaid Cymru rural affairs spokesperson, slammed Andrew RT Davies’s comments, saying in fact that ‘the Tories simply cannot be trusted to defend rural Wales’. He said, “the UK Government has completely failed to offer any security to farmers whose livelihoods are on the line. With this attitude being adopted by the Westminster government, it is absurd and irresponsible for the Leader of the Conservatives in Wales to claim that farming subsidies would be better administered from London.” Steffan Lewis has argued that greater cooperation between Ireland and Wales will be necessary to help us deal with the post-Brexit context. A ‘Celtic Sea Alliance’ should be established between the two nations, and especially between the western regions of Wales and the eastern regions of Ireland.

Summing up in the Senedd By our Assembly Brexit Spokesman Steffan Lewis AM and the Assembly Team This week the leader of Plaid Cymru, Leanne Wood, and First Minister Carwyn Jones launched a joint White Paper setting out Wales’ position for the negotiations for withdrawing from the EU. The White Paper emphasised the importance of continuing participation in the single market when we leave the EU in order to protect the Welsh economy from the damage and uncertainty that losing the ability to freely trade with our closest neighbours would cause. Leanne Wood set out her reasons for joining with the Welsh Government to write the paper here. She wrote, ‘Plaid Cymru has been given an opportunity to influence and shape the Welsh position on Brexit. Had we not taken this opportunity, our nation's voice would have been weakened.’ The White Paper marks a shift in Welsh Government policy. In September, in what was described as ‘the most shocking event since devolution’ by Adam Price AM, Welsh Labour joined with the Tories and UKIP to vote against continuing single market participation. The White Paper was widely welcomed, including by the First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, who called it a ‘serious contribution to the Brexit debate’.

Summing up in the Senedd By our Assembly Brexit Spokesman Steffan Lewis AM and the Assembly Team This week, the split between Welsh Labour and their Westminster colleagues grew as they voted in favour of Plaid Cymru’s amendment calling on the Welsh Government to support full and unfettered access to the European Single Market, through membership of the EEA and/or EFTA. This is a significant departure from Jeremy Corbyn’s position and marks a shift in Welsh Labour’s view in recent weeks. Plaid Cymru has been clear since the referendum vote, the single market is essential for Welsh businesses. We have the highest proportion of exports going to the EU of any UK nation and it could do huge damage if our ability to export to the EU was hampered by tariff or regulatory barriers. Continued participation through EEA and/or EFTA membership is essential to protect Wales’ economy post-Brexit. Plaid Cymru Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education, Llyr Gruffydd AM, led a debate in the National Assembly for Wales to highlight the importance of the European Union to Wales’s higher education sector.
