We have been in operation since 1986. TBR is set apart from other programs by our genuine passion for the disciplines we operate in. This passion drives our relentless attempt to refine our program structure and coaching technique. Our unique focus on the maximised all round development of our athletes combined with a strong club history of professionalism, cutting edge training programs and close relationships with the worlds best coaches and athletes is the cornerstone of our continued success at all levels of our sport. Our focus continues to be based on developing the technical skill platform our athletes require to improve, become the best skier they can be and to achieve personal best results in competition. We create a professional, inclusive, understanding, fun and supportive club environment to achieve this platform. Our coaches are the best skiers on the mountain with many past competitors who excel at creating a learning environment that inspires our athletes to be passionate and motivated to improve every day. Our success over the years is testament to the quality of the programs and support that we offer our athletes. TBR’s phenomenal achievements include Australia’s four Olympic aerial skiing medals (Alisa Camplin & Lydia Lassila), Australia’s first skiing X-Games Gold medal (Anna Segal), 5 World Champions, 10 Olympians & too many World Cup medals to mention. TBR forms an essential part of the Australian Winter Sports Olympic Pathway, closely linked with Ski & Snowboard Australia (SSA) and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA). These relationships provide our athletes with access to some of the best program design, coaching and training facilities in the world. In addition TBR:OFF SNOW operates programs aimed at supporting and extending TBR’s on snow training at Mt Buller. All athletes are encouraged to take part in as many off snow programs as possible, such as: • Water Jump • Acrobatic/Trampoline • Strength/ Fitness and Agility training • TBR:MOGUL & GROM Freestyle skiing camp in USA TBR also operates a number of world class events to ensure our athletes have the opportunity to test their skills in fun, friendly environments. Leading events include: • ABOM Mogul Challenge • Junior National Mogul Championships (jNats) • Victorian & Australian Interschools • Junior Freeskiing Events TBR:GROM (9-13 year olds) TBR:MOGUL TBR:FREESKIING (14-20 year olds) (14-20 year olds) teambullerriders.com TBR:2015 NEWS & INNOVATIONS Program innovation is a huge focus for TBR. Over the past couple of seasons we have been working to further develop TBR:GROM with the aim of creating the best and most widely recognised base level technical skiing program in Australia. We have a strong yet simple focus as a freestyle skiing cub. Our guiding principles are as follows: • Maximise the individual potential of all athletes in the program • Foster a fun & supportive club culture • Manufacture and maximise a grass roots competition focussed talent base to feed into the SSA/ OWIA athlete pathway By focussing on developing technical skiing drills, on snow and off snow targeted program structures and hiring qualified, supportive and enthusiastic coaches with exceptional communication skills and an enduring passion for the sport of freestyle skiing we think are well on our way to achieving our guiding principles. Of course we realise that this journey of program innovation and improvement is never ending and as such we invite all parents and athletes to continually suggest any improvements that they see fit. Our Program Manager, Andrew Pattison’s email, phone or office door is always open to all productive suggestions. LEADING THE WAY IN MULTIMEDIA TBR has long been an innovator at Mt Buller when it comes to promotion and showcasing the spectacular skills of our athletes and coaches. We have strong relationships with the best in the business such as leading photographers Mark Ashkanasy and Andrew Railton, who have shot many memorable images with the TBR athletes. When it comes to vision, SSA TV’s Lucas Wilkinson will be down to film our athletes with his amazing RED cinema quality camera. Also don’t forget in 2014 we were the first club program in Australia to purchase a drone quadcopter which captures some great footage and unique angles for training feedback. GUEST COACHING FROM THE BEST! TBR is honoured to announce that at different stages of season 2015 a number of our high performance friends will be dropping by to assist our athletes with their training goals. Whether it be learning to shred an edge with Ski Cross Olympians Katya Crema and Anton Grimus or perfecting your skills in the bumps with 2015 World Championship medallist Britt Cox we’re sure all involved will benefit greatly from the experience. MARK ADAMS REAL ESTATE SUPPORTING OUR FUTURE STARS Claudia Gueli, winner of the TBR:2014 Mark Adams Real Estate Scholarship had an amazing training experience in North America with the TBR mogul skiing camp. Claudia also had some promising results with a number of finals performances. We are excited to announce that the Mark Adams Real Estate scholarship will be returning in 2015! TBR would like to thank Mark Adams Real Estate, leading the way on Mt Buller for the past 18 years, for their continued support in providing direct assistance to the champions of tomorrow. ON SNOW FACILITIES In 1997 Buller Ski Lifts (BSL) constructed a world cup specification aerial site. This offers world class training for aerial skiing, and also serves as an excellent jump site for mogul and slopestyle athletes to perfect their aerial tricks. BSL will again allocate the main fall line of Chamois for a full length mogul training & competition course. The unpredictability of the weather at Australian resorts has often limited our use of these two exceptional world class training facilities. This unpredictability should now be a thing of the past in a “normal” winter, with BSL and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia teaming up to install three fully automated snowmaking machines on Chamois in 2013. There are no guarantees when it comes to “Mother Nature” and good old Mt Buller’s temperamental climate but, based on average snow fall data, we should have both facilities open on Chamois for the first day of the TBR program! This is one of the most significant developments for TBR athletes in the club’s history. TBR:ACROBATIC FACILITY The spectacular jumps skiers are able to perform on snow does come with risk. We believe that as a club we must be proactive in reducing risk and ensure a safe learning environment is in place for our athletes. To create a safe learning environment TBR runs a number of off-snow skill development initiatives aimed directly at improving fundamental skills, necessary to achieve success in the disciplines of moguls and freeskiing. The long-term success of mogul and freeskiing athletes has been strongly correlated with aerial and acrobatic training from an early age and throughout the teen years. The development benefits of early and sustained acrobatic training are clear and proven. Consistently TBR athletes who are involved in these initiatives have significantly improved their competition results with some even being selected into National Teams and invited to attend prestige freeskiing events. The TBR:ACROBATIC FACILITY, located in the sports hall at Buller Central includes: • 3 full competition level trampolines complete with safety pads • Double-mini and single-mini trampoline • Multiple safety mats TBR skiers will get opportunities throughout the season to use the TBR:ACROBATIC FACILITY with acrobatic sessions being scheduled into day-to-day training. The facility is also a great resource for poor weather days. teambullerriders.com TBR:2015 GROM TBR:GROM HEAD COACH - JOSH LANEY TBR is set apart by our genuine passion for the sport of freestyle skiing.

THE SHOW MUST WITH FACE OF WINTER, WARREN MILLER ENTERTAINMENT KEEPS GO A BELOVED TRADITION ALIVE AND CONTINUES TO SPREAD WARREN’S ON GOSPEL OF SKIING. THIS FALL Warren Miller Entertainment debuts its 69th annual ski film, continuing a tradition that the late godfather of action-sports films started decades ago. Face of Winter promises to deliver all that WME ski flicks have become known for: jaw-dropping scenery, adrenaline-pumping ski action, and above all, an intimate look at the people and places that make skiing so rad. In the following pages, this year’s WME athletes and crew pay tribute to Warren, the original face of winter, and the entertainment legacy he Cinematographer Jeff Wright films Marcus Caston leaves behind. Since Warren would be the first to admit that he may have (left) and Johan Jonsson during the Engelberg, borrowed one (or many) of his famous, quirky one-liners, we thought it only Switzerland segment of Face of Winter. right to borrow Warren’s words in turn. • THE DETERMINANTS of SKI RESORT SUCCESS the Faculty of the Department of Economics and Business
THE DETERMINANTS OF SKI RESORT SUCCESS A THESIS Presented to The Faculty of the Department of Economics and Business The Colorado College In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Arts By Ezekiel Anouna May/2010 THE DETERMINANTS OF SKI RESORT SUCCESS Ezekiel Anouna May, 2010 Economics Abstract As the economy is in a decline, fewer people are willing to pay for luxuries such as vacations. Thus, the ski resort industry is suffering. This thesis reveals an opportunity m the growth of free skiing and a demand for more difficult terrain. In this paper, data is collected from nearly all Colorado ski resorts to form a regression model explaining resort success. Regression analysis is conducted to discover what aspects of a ski resort contribute to success. Primarily, skier visits from the 2008-2009 ski season are_useclas the dependant variable in the regression model to measure resort success. Additionally, hedonic pricing theory is applied to test lift ticket price as a dependant variable. The paper finds that resort size, and possibly terrain park features are related to resort success. The hedonic pricing regression finds that bowl skiing, and lack of crowds, increase consumer willingness to pay for expensive lift tickets. KEYWORDS: (ski resort, terrain park, hedonic pricing) ON MY HONOR, I HAVE NEITHER GIVEN NOR RECEIVED UNAUTHORIZED AID ON THIS THESIS Signature I would like to thank my thesis advisor, Esther Redmount, for her support and consistent efforts to make sure I was on track. I would like to thank my family for supporting me in so many ways throughout my college career.

  • Download the Handbook
Skiing is our passion. It’s often hard to put that passion into words. Let alone, create a handbook to outline the values, stepping stones, and purpose found in the incarnations of this sport we love. The Park and Pipe Division of Team Summit will give it our best shot. This handbook represents our core values and the culture we share with other skiers around the world. We intend for this to be a living resource for parents, coaches, athletes and the greater skiing community. We hope this document will help your family grow in the regional contest series, USASA. Over time, and with hard work, our athletes will emerge in FIS competitions. (FIS, of course being the International Ski Federation.) Our program manages different competition formats such as Rail Jams, Half Pipe, Slopestyle, and Ski Cross. We encourage athletes to cross train, and we welcome those from other disciplines. Breakthroughs can happen all over the mountain. We will divide our team on training days by age and competition types. Our coach-to-athlete ratio will be about 1:7, but will fluctuate as other guest coaches join throughout the season. We are lucky to welcome traveling athletes and coaches on our roster, who enrich the training experience. We have an outstanding staff, with frequent guests lined up to ensure each week of training is robust. Dean will focus primarily on FIS and traveling athletes. Brooke will work with established athletes in USASA. Joel will head up our developing athletes, and support myself and Brooke. My job remains focused on ski fundamentals.

Ski Cross is an excellent event option to explore. Ski Cross is quickly gaining popularity and has been approved to move from Freestyle and Freeski to a discipline under Alpine at the FIS level. Ski Cross is an exciting discipline that involves all aspects of ski racing and freeskiing, combined with the added element of racing side by side. Competitors inspect and train the course prior to the event day and oftentimes will have advanced training sessions similar to speed events for FIS events. Competition day training is common at the grassroots (entry) level. In the United States, entry level Ski Cross racing is delivered through the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA). FIS level racing and above is delivered through U.S. Ski & Snowboard. Ski Cross presents a simple programming opportunity for any club with athletes who like to go fast, rip varied terrain, and will enable them to develop a diverse skill set. Ski Cross can serve as an excellent growth opportunity for any skier and is especially well suited to athletes with an Alpine ski racing foundation.

  • USTSA Freeskiing JUDGES’ HANDBOOK & GUIDELINES
USTSA Freeskiing JUDGES’ HANDBOOK & GUIDELINES These rules and guidelines have been adapted from the USTSA and IFSA guidelines, developed by Shane McConkey, Jim Jack, Jeff Clark, Ross Matlock, Nate Greenberg, and various others over the years. They represent the best interpretation of styles of judging available to both disciplines of the sport… The goal of the USTSA Freeskiing judge is to isolate and identify the best overall skier, and not just the best skier in any discipline (extreme, mogul, air, carver etc.). The best skier in the field is able to put all pieces of the skiing puzzle together. Keep in mind the big picture; the entire run, the aspects of the skier’s strengths and weaknesses. Look for solid skiing fundamentals and skills, flair, style, energy. The best skier is usually fairly easy to identify, but keep in mind there may be 99 other skiers whom you must judge on the same criteria, and rank them. It is a difficult task. It is our job to utilize the criteria on the following pages to effectively evaluate each skier on the same terms, regardless of what we know they may be capable of, meant to do, or anything else… Bottom Line: We want to reward good, solid, and safe skiing that is fluid, creative, and fun to watch, and discourage skiing that is sketchy, uncontrolled, and frightening to watch. Skiers who stomp lines will be rewarded, while those who flounder in lines that are over his head will be penalized Our judging is based on a combination of the International Freeskiing Association of America (IFSA) rules, and the adaptation of those rules to the Telemark world.
