He arrived here Jul^nst, 1780 from Horristowi with approximately four thousand soldiers and placed them alongjbhe Passaic River and the Singac Brook that ran along the outer border of the six nundred acre property. It was chosen as a military post as it is in the Preakness Valley with mountains around it, close to the British in the Harlem area, but protected. The storming of the block house was started here. Its owner Theunis Dey was a Colonel of the Bergen County Militia. Architecturally it is an interesting example of Georgian architecture with Dutch influence. It is very different from the story and a half farmhouses of one room deep that were most prevelant in this area. The gardens were laid out by Olmstead Brothers of Brookline, Mass. An orchard of old varieties of apples is in progress as well as a barnyard with barn, smokehouse, springhouse and tool shed with foi«ge. * /:y RECEIVED ":? uc 7 1370 l :- :\ NAT10NA- See separate sheet for listing* LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE COORDINATES LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE COORDINATES DEFINING A RECTANGLE LOCATING THE PROPERTY DEFINING THE CENTER POINT OF A PROPERTY OF LESS THAN TEN ACRES LATITUDE LONGITUDE LATITUDE LONGITUDE Degrees Minutes Seconds Degrees Minutes Seconds Degrees Minutes Seconds Degrees Minutes Seconds NW o f • NE UO 5U $6 00 SE APPROXIMATE ACREAGE OF NOMINATED PROPERTY: t/» LIST ALL STATES AND COUNTIES FOR PROPERTIES OVERLAPPING STATE OR COUNTY BOUNDARIES STATE: CODE COUNTY CODE rn m COUNTY: z </» H 50 NAME ANO Tl TLE: C n ORGAN!
