Increase Your Productivity up to 1210% with the Precision T1700

If your job requires you to do professional 2D CAD (Computer Aided Drafting), entry-level 3D design such as creating architectural CAD drawings, 3D animation or product design, then you know the demanding performance you require from your computer. Maybe you’ve considered a in the past but couldn’t justify the additional cost. Now with the Dell Precision™ T1700, you can afford a true productivity- boosting workstation without breaking your budget. The data below will show you that although the upfront cost of a workstation may be higher, the increase in productivity makes for a smart return on investment.

The table below compares the performance of two configurations of the Dell Precision T1700 workstation to our best performing standard desktop, the OptiPlex™ 9020. The benchmark we used was SPECviewperf® 11 which mimics real world scenarios of a user running various workstation class applications. For this discussion we’re focusing on the Autodesk® Maya®, PTC® Pro|ENGINEER® and Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks® datasets.

Platform OptiPlex 9020 Dell Precision T1700 Dell Precision T1700 Configuration A Configuration B Processor ® Core™ i7-4770 Intel® Core™ i7-4770 Intel® Core™ i7-4770 Memory configuration2, 3 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-12800U NECC 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-12800U NECC 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-12800U NECC HDD details4 500GB SATA 7200RPM 500GB SATA 7200RPM 500GB SATA 7200RPM OS details Microsoft® Windows® 7 Pro SP1 Microsoft Windows 7 Pro SP1 Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit 64-bit 64-bit Graphics adapter details NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 645 NVIDIA ® K600 NVIDIA Quadro K2000 Viewperf 11 Maya-03 performance5 8.10 33.21 88.33 Viewperf 11 ProE-03 performance5 1.57 15.47 20.57 Viewperf 11 SW-02 performance5 11.29 39.53 56.49 Price1 $1680 $1746 $2145

Based on the above results, the Dell Precision T1700 entry-level workstation with up to the NVIDIA Quadro K600 (Configuration A) performed up to 885% (9.9x) faster and the T1700 with the NVIDIA Quadro K2000 (Configuration B) performed up to 13x 1210% (13x) faster than the standard desktop, the Dell OptiPlex 9020. This means faster project time related to system performance can be reduced by up to 90% with performance configuration A and by as much as 92% with configuration B. with Dell Precision T1700 and NVIDIA Quadro K2000 As an example, if we assume that an average employee using Pro|ENGINEER earns $37.50 per hour and spends 50% of their time doing performance-intensive work Recoup costs on their computer, the $66-$465 difference in upfront cost can be recouped in as in less than little as 4 to 27 hours; less than four work days. If employee costs are higher per hour, then the cost would be recovered in even less time. 4 days Increase Your Productivity up to 1210% with the Dell Precision T1700

If we extrapolate this further, a hypothetical company that pays its engineers $37.50 per hour to use Pro|ENGINEER on standard desktops will spend $75,000 on labor for a project that requires 2000 hours of intense compute performance. If this company switches to Dell Precision T1700 they could potentially complete the same job in as little as 160 hours effectively reducing the cost of labor for the project to $6,000 dollars, theoretically saving $69,000.

Viewed another way, the below chart compares the theoretical amount of time it takes to accomplish a given project. With all three of our test applications the amount of time it takes to complete a project is significantly lower when using a Dell Precision workstation when compared to a standard Dell desktop.

It’s also important to note that there are additional benefits to using Dell Precision workstations. All Dell Precision workstations are Independent Software Vendor (ISV) certified for use with many professional grade applications. In addition, the T1700 comes with additional optional features: Error Correcting Code (ECC) memory which can automatically correct for single bit memory errors providing a more stable platform and Intel ® processors which are built for all day everyday reliability and provide faster processing.

The minimal additional cost of a Dell Precision T1700 entry-level workstation can help increase your productivity, which means faster project completion, increased project iterations and decreased overtime providing excellent return on your investment.
