Sean Claugherty 1B Class of 2010 A hard swinging, power hitting left hander, Sean occupied the number three spot in the lineup for almost his entire career. “Claw” finished his career as a .382 hitter, and his name can be found in the Top 9 Five of almost every career offensive category in the Saints record book, including 205 career hits (fifth place all-time), 163 runs batted in (fourth), 21 home runs (fourth), 187 runs (third), and 54 doubles (third). Although not known for his speed or defense throughout his career, “Claw” was a near perfect 20-21 in stolen bases and finished his career with a .988 fielding percentage. His best offensive year could quite possibly be his sophomore season of 2008 when he batted .447 with 10 home runs, 18 doubles, and carried a slugging percentage of .830. In all, Claugherty was a three-time All-UMAC selection including being named 2008 Player of the Year and was named All-Region three times as well. In 2008, he received All-American honors.

Jeff Lahti 2B Class of 1999 Although you will not find Jeff’s name near the top of the career leaders, from 1996-1999, you could associate his name with being one of the best leaders to ever captain the Saints. 5 During his senior season of 1999, Jeff led the Saints to their first ever NCAA tournament. That sea- son, playing on a team filled with future hall of famers and members of this 25th anniversary team, Jeff led the team with 50 runs batted in, batted .353 and played in all 48 games. Jeff’s presence and handle-bar mustache was often intimidating to opponents and sometimes even his teammates. His “I-won’t-lose” attitude helped create a culture that every his teammates followed. Following graduation, Jeff played professional baseball for the Duluth Superior Dukes and finished his professional ca- reer as a .283 hitter. Lahti was named All-UMAC twice and received All-Region honors in 1999.

Leland Swenson SS Class of 2000 Leland Swenson came to the Saints as a freshman in 1996. For the next four years if you showed up at the ball park to watch the Saints, there was a good chance that Leland would starting at shortstop. 9 Swenson not only played flawless defense, but he provided the Saints a tremendous amount of of- fense with his 225 career hits, 173 runs scored, a .399 batting average, and 166 runs batted in. He shares the single-season hits record of 83 and holds the single-season RBI record with 77. His .464 batting average is the third highest single season total. Following his four years at CSS, Leland became the first Saints baseball player to play for a major league organization when the Texas Rangers signed him to a contract in 2000. He went on to play two seasons in the Texas Rangers organization, one season with the Duluth-Superior Dukes, and finished his career as the starting short-stop for the St. Paul Saints. Swenson’s postseason honors included four All-UMAC selections including 2000 Player of the Year honors, two All- Region selections including 2000 Region Player of the Year, and two All-American selections.

Justin Harriman C Class of 2000 A first team All-American catcher following his senior year of 2000, “Harry” made an immediate impact as a freshman by batting .360 with 30 RBIs. A career .393 hitter, Harriman ranks 2nd in career hits with 243 as well as dou- 7 bles with 56. His 24 home runs are the third-most for any Saints hitter and his 178 runs batted in are the most in program history. Most would argue his most impressive accomplishment was his 42-game hitting streak from 1999-2000, but those in attendance would argue his walk-off home run in 1999 that gave the Saints their first ever win in an NCAA Tournament. Although he had a strong dislike for pitchers, Harriman was responsible for much of the success Saints pitchers endured during his four years behind the plate. Harriman was a four-time All-UMAC selection and three-time All-Region honoree.

Greg Young DH Class of 2002 Greg Young’s legacy in Saints baseball history was created with his bat as he is possibly the greatest hitter to ever wear the Saints uniform. In his freshman season in 1999, “GY” appeared in 14 games and collected only 3 4 hits, but one was a home run. His sophomore season was sensational, posting a .444 batting average, 44 RBIs, 28 stolen bases, and a slugging percentage of .630. Over the next two years Greg began to cement himself in CSS baseball glory, hitting .474 in 2001 and .465 in 2002 – the two highest batting averages during a single season in the program’s history. “GY” is the all-time leader in batting average at .455 and also sits atop the slugging percentage list at an amazing .767. During the Regional Championship game in 2000, Bilben put the Saints on his back and drove in 8 runs, leading his team to their first and regional title. Bilben was a three-time All-UMAC selection and named All-Region in 1998.

Chris LePine CF Class of 2000 The first great center fielder and lead-off hitter in Saints history, Chris LePine was the motor of the Saints. The program’s career hit leader with 245, he also ranks second in runs with 227, 20 fourth in doubles with 54, and second in stolen bases with 96. His 83 hits in 2000 tie him with Leland Swenson for the most in a single season, and his 80 runs scored are the most ever in one season. LePine was also well known for his ability to chase down any ball hit his way. He galloped from gap to gap, turning would-be hits into outs. But perhaps the most electrifying weapon in his arsenal was his ability to run the bases, turning singles into doubles and doubles into triples. LePine was named an All-UMAC selection in each of his four years as a Saint and received All-Region honors twice, including an All-American selection in 2000.

Josh Wettlaufer RF Class of 2004 Another great centerfielder in Saints baseball history, Josh Wettlaufer began his career as a freshman in 2001 and was instantly inserted into the starting line up. He finished his career with 13 wins, a 2.70 ERA, 160 innings pitched and 160 strikeouts. In a period of Saints baseball where wins did not come easy, Avi’s teams set program records for wins each year he played for the Saints -- winning 16 games in 1993, 18 games in 1994, and, finally, 24 games in 1995. In 1995, Avikainen was named an All-Region pitcher and received All-District honors twice.

Major League scouts were a common sight when he was on the mound in 2002, as he posted a single-season best 1.09 ERA and struck out 83 batters while holding them to a .198 batting average. During his sophomore season he tossed a complete-game no-hitter against the number one team in the country, the University of St. Thomas, and during his freshmen year, he earned the win in the Saints’ regional championship game. Corey Kemp P Class of 2001 The soft-throwing lefty relied on a mix of 79-mile per hour fastballs, slow changeups, and an even slower curve ball, to earn the most wins in the program’s 25 year history. His career totals of 29 wins, 233 innings and 258 strikeouts are all tops for a Saints 18 pitcher, and his 11 wins in 2000 tied him with Ben Sickler for the most in a single season by a Saints pitcher. As a sophomore in 1999, “CK” came out of the bullpen to pitch 8 innings and earn the first ever win for the Saints in an NCAA Tournament when Justin Harriman hit a walk off homerun against Wis.-Stevens Point. Kemp was a great example of how working fast, changing speeds, and throwing strikes can make you a successful college pitcher. He was named UMAC Pitcher of the Year twice (2000, 2001) and received All-UMAC honors in each of his four years at CSS. “CK” earned All-Region and All-American honors twice in his four-year career.

Kummet overpowered opposing batters with his sweeping slider and lively fastball by striking out 215 batters (fifth-most all-time) in 198 innings. The 2007 UMAC Pitcher of the Year, Kummet earned all-conference and all-region honors each of his four years at CSS and was named an All-American in 2009.
