Most sites were surveyed in both winter and summer, although some contained water only one occasion. Altogether 57 waterbird species were recorded, with 29 292 waterbirds of 25 species on Lake MacLeod in October 1994. River pools were shown to be relatively important for waterbirds, while many freshwater claypans were little used. At least 492 species of aquatic invertebrate were collected. The invertebrate fauna was characterized by the low frequency with which taxa occurred: a third of the species were collected at a single site on only one occasion. -

MOUNT CANOBOLAS FAUNA SURVEY 24TH – 29th MARCH 2019 1 Introduction Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area The Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area (SCA) Draft Plan of Management begins with the following vision for this reserve: Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area is a sentinel in the landscape. It is a park valued, understood and protected by the community for its uniqueness, biodiversity, visitor experiences, and for the spiritual and cultural connections between people and this special place, now and into the future (OEH 2018). This iconic place is an extinct volcano rising to an altitude of 1397m asl and more than 500m above the surrounding central tablelands landscape. It has great significance for the local Wiradjuri custodians. The ecological values of this place are shaped by its high altitude, volcanic origins, isolation from similar geological formations and the extensive clearing of the surrounding landscape leaving it as a relatively isolated remnant of native vegetation. The presence of sub-alpine communities is particularly noteworthy (OEH 2018). The SCA incorporates an area of 1672 ha. The vegetation communities of the Mt Canobolas SCA have been broadly described and mapped with the following communities defined: 1. Eucalyptus macrorhyncha – E. dives: shrubby open forest and woodland (26% of the SCA) a. E. macrorhyncha dominant in more exposed sites b. E. dives dominant in less exposed sites 2. E. pauciflora – E. dalrympleana: Grassy woodlands and tall open forests (51% of the SCA) a. E. pauciflora – E. canobolensis grassy woodlands b. E. dalrympleana – E. viminalis tall open forests 3. The current paper presents an initial analysis of the higher-level disaggregation using the Handbook of the Birds of the World/BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World Volumes 1 and 2 taxonomy, and identifies the challenges in completing the analysis to identify all of the migratory species and the corresponding Range States. The document has been prepared by the COP Appointed Scientific Councilors for Birds. This guide provides information about the birds, and how to bird on, Oxley Creek Common. This is a public park (access restricted to the yellow parts of the map, page 6). Over 185 species have been recorded on Oxley Creek Common in the last 83 years, making it one of the best birding spots in Brisbane. This guide is complimented by a full annotated list of the species seen in, or from, the Common. How to get there Oxley Creek Common is in the suburb of Rocklea and is well signposted from Sherwood Road. If approaching from the east (Ipswich Road side), pass the Rocklea Markets and turn left before the bridge crossing Oxley Creek. If approaching from the west (Sherwood side) turn right about 100 m after the bridge over Oxley Creek. The gate is always open. Amenities The main development at Oxley Creek Common is the Red Shed, which is beside the car park (plenty of space). The Red Shed has toilets (composting), water, covered seating, and BBQ facilities. The toilets close about 8pm and open very early. The paths are flat, wide and easy to walk or cycle. When to arrive The diversity of waterbirds is a feature of the Common and these can be good at any time of the day. -

Evaluation of the Coastal Inundation and Erosion Process in the Mid-West Coast of Western Australia
Faculty of Science and Engineering School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering Evaluation of the coastal inundation and erosion process in the Mid-West coast of Western Australia Withanage Sajantha Lakmali Perera This thesis is presented for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (Civil Engineering) of Curtin University September 2016 Abstract At present the coastal inundation and erosion is a major problem all around the world and this issue will be more severe in the future due to sea level rise. Australia has a long coastline around the country, thus it focus on the coastal vulnerability due to sea level rise. Taking these facts into account, this research was focused on the evaluation of the coastal inundation and erosion process in the Mid-West coast of Western Australia. Within the Mid-West region, a seventy five kilometre stretch was selected for the study. The major highlight of this research is the integrated modelling approach and the result of the modelling carried out for evaluation of the coastal inundation and erosion process. Widely used coastal model, MIKE 21 was selected as the dynamic model for the study. As data plays very important part for this research, an intensive data collection campaign was conducted to collect the required data. Bathymetry data, coastal boundary data, topography data, wave, water levels and wind data, were collected using discrete data sources from variety of government, local and private organizations. Extreme value analysis for water levels, wind and wave was done using Gumbel and Weibull distributions. The final results of the inundation and erosion extends have been presented in terms of spatial maps. -
