The review also includes suggestions for further areas that should be designated within the scope of these two Directives. Although the two Directives have different objectives, the areas designated as sensitive or vulnerable are reviewed simultaneously because of the similarities in the designation process. The investigations will focus upon: • Checking that those waters that should be identified according to either Directive have been; • in the case of the Nitrates Directive, assessing whether vulnerable zones have been designated correctly and comprehensively. The identification of vulnerable zones and sensitive areas in relation to the Nitrates Directive and Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive is carried out according to both common and specific criteria, as these are specified in the two Directives. 1.1 THE URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIRECTIVE (91/271/EEC) The Directive concerns the collection, treatment and discharge of urban wastewater as well as biodegradable wastewater from certain industrial sectors.     ECC 2019 28th October 2018 ECC 2019 Bulletin #5 Recce to Athens Dear all, We have just got back from our 5-day recce trip to Athens which we found was very successful. Natalie, Hugh and Martin met up with Sasha in Athens last week and we in turn met some of the organisers, race team, charterers, representatives of potential reception venues and harbour masters etc. Commodore’s recce team meeting at Ydra – captions invited? We visited about 10 potential harbours and after further discussions selected the proposed route of Athens, Ydra, Ermioni, Poros, Epidavros, Perdika and back to Athens. This gives us opportunities for shorter and longer distances sailing, a couple of options for a dinghy race and with good support from the Athens Yacht Club should make for an exciting event. We even tried out some of the local restaurants at harbours we visited – it had to be done!! ECC 2019 28th October 2018 Proposed route: Kalamaki Kalamaki - is a bustling suburb to the south of Athens about 15km from the international airport. The Alimos marina where we will collect our boats is in walking distance of a number of restaurants, bars, hotels and supermarkets.     Saronic Gulf Islands – 1 week Itinerary The islands of the Saronic Gulf are the most easily accessible islands by sailing yacht from Athens. The Saronic Gulf and the nearby Argolis prefecture of the Peloponnese mainland are an ideal destination for shorter trips from Athens and are also recommended for less experienced sailors due to the short distances involved and the relatively mild winds in comparison to other sailing areas in Greece. The festive ceremony took place before a gathering of the School's trustees, family and friends. Ward Canaday was honored for almost 40 years of service to the School, during which he served as its President and then its Chairman. Canaday, who was chairman of Willys-Overland Motors, is particularly remembered for his energetic support of the excavations in the Agora and the recon­ struction of the Stoa of Attalos, a project which satisfied both his interest in Greek archaeology and his desire to assist in pro­ moting Greek tourism. Because of his out­ standing work for Greece through the American School, he was awarded the Grand Cross Order of the Phoenix and Honorary Citizenship of Athens. Before cutting the ribbon on the door and welcoming guests into " Canaday House," the honoree's daughter, Doreen Canaday Spitzer, spoke the following words: In 1948 I came back to Greece, after an absence of 10 years, with my husband.     EXCAVATIONS AT PORTO CHELI AND VICINITY, PRELIMINARYREPORT, I: HALIEIS, 1962-1968 (PLATES 80-92) T 5HE southern end of the Argolic peninsula (Fig. 1) is cut off from Epidauria and Troizenia to the north by a range of mountains running east-west. In antiquity the chief town was Hermione and the area may be referred to as the Hermionid. The site of the ancient city of Halieis, in low, rolling country to the west, escaped the fate of its better known neighbor, which now lies under a small town of the same name, since the modern village of Porto Cheli grew up on the opposite side of its spacious harbor. The city site has been visited by various travellers over the past two centuries. In addition to brief published reports, the chart made by the British Admiralty (No. 1502, " Port Kheli "), as a result of the visit of H.M.S. Beacon to the harbor of Porto Cheli in 1838, deserves mention as it gives some indica- tion of the condition of the city walls at that time. Unpublished notes were made by A. Frickenhaus and W. Muller in 1909, W. Wrede in 1926, and by the writer and his wife in 1950 and thereafter on a number of visits, aided since 1954 by copies of the notes of our German precursors, which we owe to Wrede's courtesy. Excavation, other than clandestine, was confined to some brief tests in 1909 for the Archaeological Society of Athens by Alexander Philadelpheus (who kindly entrusted his notebook to us in 1954) and to salvage work on a number of graves in the necropolis of the ancient town in 1958 and 1959, under the supervision of the late Nicholas Verdelis, then Ephor of Antiquities for the Argolid-Korinthia.'
