They valued him so highly that he was given a relatively large amount of personal freedom, while other members of the Jewish faith were restricted. -

Outre les dimensions poétique, intellectuelle et spirituelle, le développement de l’orientalisme aux XIXe et XXe siècles est lié à un intérêt politique, commercial et scientiique pour l’étranger – un intérêt dont la colonisation est le soubassement idéologique dominant. Au XIXe siècle, le goût pour les voyages, associé au rêve, au désir d’échapper à soi et à la société, à la recherche d’une nature pure comme des formes primaires de la civilisation, suscite tout à la fois un intérêt de mode et une fascination collective des artistes et du public. Le voyage en Orient devient un genre pratiqué par les plus grands auteurs, comme Nerval ou Flaubert. Après son voyage au Maroc et en Algérie en 1832, Delacroix révèle que l’Afrique du Nord vaut le traditionnel pèlerinage en Italie. L’engouement pour l’histoire et la recherche d’une couleur locale originale contribuent à la mise en place d’un vocabulaire et d’un style susceptibles d’évoquer les mondes lointains. -

Interstellar Music - by Mike Overly Let's imagine that you could toss a message in a bottle faster than a speeding bullet into the cosmic ocean of outer space. What would you seal inside it for anyone, or anything, to open some day in the distant future, in a galaxy far, far away from our solar system? Well, imagine no more because it's been done! Thirty-five years ago, NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft carrying earthly images and sounds toward the Stars. Voyager 1 was launched on September 5, 1977, from Cape Canaveral, Florida and Voyager 2 was sent on its way August 20 of that same year. Voyager 1 is now 11 billion miles away from earth and is the most distant of all human-made objects. Everyday, it flies another million miles farther. In fact, Voyager 1 and 2 are so far out in space that their radio signals, traveling at the speed of light, take 16 hours to reach Earth. These radio signals are captured daily by the big dish antennas of the Deep Space Network and arrive at a strength of less than one femtowatt, a millionth of a billionth of a watt. Wow! Both Voyagers are headed towards the outer boundary of the solar system, known as the heliopause. This is the region where the Sun's influence wanes and interstellar space waxes. Also, the heliopause is where the million-mile-per-hour solar winds slow down to about 250,000 miles per hour. The Voyagers have reached these solar winds, also known as termination shock, and should cross the heliopause in another 10 to 20 years. -

DAVID FRÜHWIRTH Austrian violinist David Frühwirth is well on his way to establishing a firm place in the international music scene. Maestro Valery Gergiev invited the young Soloist to perform with Mariinsky Orchestra in St Petersburg. He performed Mozart concerto Nr. 3 and a new violin concerto from Olga Pochikhina, dedicated to the Soloist. He also played already a very successful Debut recital at the Salzburg Festival. From his several CD recordings his Debut CD Set „Trails of Creativity“received „Editors Choice“in Gramophone Magazine and Fono Forum. In 2011 David Frühwirth is again invited to perform on international concert stages like: Musikverein Vienna, Wigmore Hall London, Grosser Saal Mozarteum Salzburg, Historical Museum Moskau, Prinzregenten - Theater Munich. And he will play chamber music with distinguished Artists from his generation like Herbert Schuch, Claudio Bohorquez, Florian Krumpöck, Adrian Brendel, Gottlieb Wallisch, Wen-Sinn Yang and Milana Chernyavska. 2010 he played his Debut in China with CNSO (Conductor Gabriel Feltz), concerts in Spain (Toledo Music Festival), Hungary, England, Germany, Austria and a tour in Mexico; also frequently chamber music concerts at different Festivals. The Violinist made also two new CD recordings: the violin concerto by E. Wellesz together with the RSO Berlin (Conductor Roger Epple) for Capriccio and a Duo CD with Florian Uhlig at the piano for EDA-Berlin. David Frühwirth is prize-winner in a number of national and international competitions and his performances have brought him highly critical acclaim.
