However, these natural plants are used seldom for landscape or economic purposes. In this context, ground cover plants are often inconspicuous elements of a landscape plantation design because of their functional and aesthetics avantages. Although natural ground cover plants are very important, knowledges on the subject are unsufficient. In this study, potantial natural ground cover plants were determined in survey studies from the Lakes Region for the first time. The study was carried out among 2000 and 2004 years from different habitats in mountains of the region. By our observations in the study, concept of “ground cover plant” was defined newly. Collected and identified plants according to general flora books by the authors are hold in Herbarium GUL of Süleyman Demirel University. According to our field observations, botanical and ecological characteristics of the plants were determined for ground covering. A list of these plants was listed alphabetically. According to the results, totally 175 taxa belonging to 79 genera and 28 families were determined. 44 of them are belonging to Fabaceae family.

  • The Sanctuary at Zindan Mağarasi in the Light of the New Archaeological Evidence
GEPHYRA 2 2005 95-102 Jale DEDEOĞLU* THE SANCTUARY AT ZINDAN MAĞARASI IN THE LIGHT OF THE NEW ARCHAEOLOGICAL EVIDENCE Abstract: The excavation at Zindan Mağarası (cave) began in 2002, under the direction of the Isparta Museum directorate. During the 2002 campaign a mosaic floor was unearthened upon which the head of the God Eurymedon is depicted. During excavations in front of the cave a wall from the second century A.D. and a wall dating from the third century A.D. were discovered. The authors suggest that the former could be a temenos wall while the latter wall could have been a platform, while the apse wall of a chapel, built from spolien was found in the same locality. These excavations supplied considerable architectural material that will help to identify the architectural character of this sanctuary. The excavations in front of the cave exposed a long period of occupation, extending from the Early Hellenistic to the Seljuk Period. In 2003 two important inscriptions were found showing that the temple in front of the cave was dedicated to Meter Theon Veginos. Nevertheless, the evidence obtained both from the excavations and the survey in the vicinity show that the cult centre in front of the cave was dedicated to at least three gods: Zeus, Cybele and Eurymedon. From the finds of coins from Sagalassos, Perge, Selge and Antiocheia from within the excavated area and the fact that this sanctuary was located by an important road connection, it can be suggested that the cult centre had local, but was also of regional importance.

“A CORRECT AND PROGRESSIVE ROAD”: U.S.-TURKISH RELATIONS, 1945-1964 Michael M. Carver A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2011 Committee: Dr. Douglas J. Forsyth, Advisor Dr. Gary R. Hess Dr. Marc V. Simon, Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Tiffany Trimmer 1 2011 Michael M. Carver All Rights Reserved ABSTRACT 2 Dr. Douglas Forsyth, Advisor This historical investigation of U.S.-Turkish relations from the end of World War II to 1964 provides a greater understanding of the challenges inherent in the formation and implementation of U.S. policy in Turkey at a time when the Turks embarked on multiparty politics and a determined campaign to become a modern and distinctly European nation through ambitious economic development programs. Washington proved instrumental in this endeavor, providing financial support through the Marshall Plan and subsequent aid programs, and political sponsorship of Turkey’s membership in international organizations such as NATO and the EEC. U.S. policymakers encountered various quandaries as they forged bilateral relations with the Turks, specifically reconciling democratization with Turkey’s development and participation in the containment of communism. The Turkish government under Adnan Menderes demonstrated its reliability as a U.S. ally, providing troops to fight in the Korean War and cooperating in the construction of NATO bases and the modernization of its military, but it came under increasing pressure from the political opposition when its economic policies failed to secure long-term economic growth and stability. Starting in the mid-1950s the Menderes government adopted increasingly authoritarian measures to control dissent, a problematic situation for Washington, as it desired greater Turkish democracy while at them same time did not wish to compromise the growing American military presence in Turkey.

  • The Biblical City of Antioch of Pisidia
Antioch Of Pisidia “But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.” (Acts 13:14) © 2020 David Padfield www.padfield.com Scripture taken from the New King James Version. Copyright 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc. Used by permission. All rights reserved. Antioch Of Pisidia Introduction I. Of the sixteen ancient cities in Turkey named Antioch, only two are of any significance to Bible students today. A. One is now called Antakya (Antioch of Syria; Antioch on the Orontes), and the other is Antioch of Pisidia (Pisidian Antioch). B. Both cities played a major part in the early days of the church. II. Around A.D. 50, Paul visited Antioch of Pisidia on his first evangelistic journey (Acts 13:13–14), and his first recorded sermon was preached there (Acts 13:15–51). Discussion I. The History Of Antioch A. Antioch of Pisidia is located ½ mile north of the village of Yalvaç in the Isparta province in southern Turkey. B. After the death of Alexander the Great, Seleucus I Nicator, founder of the Seleucid Dynasty, took control of Pisidia (c. 330–280 B.C.). 1. “Seleucus Nicator I had nearly 60 cities founded and gave to 16 of them the name of his father and son: Antiochos” (Ünal Demirer, Pisidian Antioch, 20). 2. The cities he captured were soon Hellenized, and fortified cities were built at strategically important places. 3. Judging from coins minted around that time, the city must have been economically prosperous. C. In 188 B.C., the Romans defeated Antiochus III and declared Antioch of Pisidia a free city.

Türkiye Jeoloji Bülteni Cilt 43, Sayı 2, Ağustos 2000 Geological Bulletin of Turkey Volume 43, Number 2, August 2000 Tectono-Stratigraphic Outline of the Burdur-Isparta Area (Western Taurides, Turkey) İsparta ve Burdur Dolaylarının Tektono-Stratigrafik Özellikleri (GB Türkiye) M. Erkan KARAMAN Akdeniz Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesi, Jeoloji Mühendisliği Bölümü, Antalya-Turkey Abstract The aim of this paper is to investigate the tectono-stratigraphic characteristics and the geologic evolution of the southern Taurides orogenic belt in Southwestern Turkey. The rock stratigraphic units in the study area are divided into autochthonous and allochthonous categories. The Cretaceous carbonate sequence is the oldest autochthonous unit in the region consisting of two units from bottom to top: (1) Söbüdağ Formation (Cenomanian-Turonian), and (2) Senirce Formation (middle Maastrichtian). All Cretaceous rock units are over- lain unconformably by the Lower Tertiary detritic sediments divided into two units from bottom to top: (1) Kmlkirma Formation is Upper Paleocene-Lower Eocene in age and, (2) The Kayıköy Formation is Middle Eocene in age. Other Tertiary sediments are formed following Formations: (3) Yazir Formation (Aquitanian), (4) Ağlasun Formation (Burdigalian), (5) Gönen Formation (Middle-Upper Miocene), (6) Burdur Formation (Upper Miocene-Pliocene), (7) Gölcük Formation (Pliocene), (8) Karaçal Formation (Quaternary), (9) Yakaköy travertine (Quaternary). The Quaternary alluvium and alluvial- fan deposits are the overlag assemblage in the study area. The Gölcük Formation consists of volcanics of late Miocene to Early Pliocene age. The Internal Taurus Nappe is the allochthonous unit in this region consisting of two units: The Gökçebağ ophi- olitic melange and The Akdağ limestone unit. These allochthonous units were primarily emplaced during Late Cretaceous to early Paleocene period.
