A number of listed buildings LicenceHilltop ViewNo 100019797 2008 in the area feature prominently in some of the village’s most splendid townscape views. Particularly noticeable are The Black Boy P.H., The Old Rectory, Woodlands, Magpie Cottage and The Thatched Cottage. The buildings combine an assortment of architectural styles at a variety of ground levels and surround a small well kept Green enclosed by grassy embankments and the stone boundary walls of Oving House. Together, these features succeed in creating a space of considerable vitality in both appearance and spirit.

Extending south from The Green along the short lane of Manor Road, past Manor House and the picture book thatched cottages of Tinkers End and Derwent Cottage, all of which are Listed Grade II, the lane opens out revealing extensive views westward across pastoral farmland and south across the Vale of .

Whilst the main historic nucleus of the village skirts around the treed grounds of Oving House, Dark Lane extends eastward off The Green past the Old Butchers Arms, exposing the stone entrance façade to Oving House, the gables of which can be seen over the surrounding walls, which in turn lead the eye to the elegant brick stable block and rubblestone Home Farmhouse.

1 Oving Conservation Area

The southern brick aspect of Oving House together with its treed grounds are an important feature in Oving maintaining a landscaped wedge between the village and the open countryside. Beyond Oving House, its stable block and Home Farmhouse, Dark Lane becomes a grassy tree lined footpath which eventually emerges opposite the pleasant stone bus shelter in front of Windmill Bungalows.
