Sapperton Pew Sheet for 27th June 2021 Fourth after trinity – Saint Peter: 10.00 Lenton Patronal Holy Communion 18.00 Ropsley Patronal Festival Each church building is named for a saint, who is then known as the church’s Patron Saint. On the feast day of that saint (or the nearest Sunday) churches usually have a special celebration service. Saint Peter was one of the first followers of Jesus. He was a fisherman on Lake Tiberias, and a larger-than-life character, who had a habit of putting his foot in things. However, after the death and resurrection of Jesus, he showed himself to be a brave and competent leader of the first Christians, and a powerful preacher. The Departed: Paul Taylor Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his souls, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory. Prayers for the Feast of S Peter: Almighty God, who inspired your apostle Saint Peter to confess Jesus as Christ and Son of the living God: build up your Church upon this rock, that in unity and peace it may proclaim one truth and follow one Lord, your Son our Saviour Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The feast of St Peter (Petertide) is one of the times in the year when new deacons and priests are ordained: God our Father, Lord of all the world, through your Son you have called us into the fellowship of your universal Church: hear our prayer for your faithful people that in their vocation and ministry each may be an instrument of your love, and give to your servants to be ordained the needful gifts of grace. Amen.
