An alphabetical content listing of files contains additional information. About Loring Edward Hart Loring Hart was a native of Bath, ME. He received his B.A. degree in English from Bowdoin College in 1948, his M.A. degree from the University of Miami in 1951, and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1961. President Hart served with Patton’s Third Army in Europe during World War II. Before coming to Norwich in 1957, Hart was an English instructor at the University of Kentucky. He served as head of the Norwich English department from 1961 to 1968, becoming a full professor in 1964. He was appointed dean of the university and vice- president in 1968. He served as president from 1972 to 1982. Dr. Hart was married to Marilyn Cummings and the couple had two children. He retired in 1982 and made his home in Maine.
