In addition, the company will be offering behind-the-scenes footage of upcoming Ghost House Pictures films, as well as several special interactive features, to mobile phone users in the U.K. The company, a joint venture between Mandate Pictures, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert that has produced some of the most successful of recent horror films including The Grudge and Boogeyman, will offer movie lovers the opportunity to experience content on their mobile phones in new and unexpected ways, and will create an interactive one-on-one connection between Ghost House filmmakers and the horror fan community. The service, which will launch in the U.K. with PA3 as Ghost House’s mobile partner, will offer fans a number of features, including access to classic horror images and ringtones; original Boogeyman artwork; the opportunity to win exclusive movie memorabilia including copies of the Evil Dead poster signed by director Raimi; and behind-the-scenes footage highlighting two of Ghost House’s upcoming releases— Sebastian Gutierrez’s Rise starring Lucy Liu and Michael Chiklis, and The Messengers, the Pang Brothers’ English-language debut starring John Corbett, Dylan McDermott and Kristen Stewart. These features will include introductions by Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell. Ghost House ultimately hopes to expand this service to international carriers, eventually reaching mobile phones in the U.S. "The mobile phone presents an incredible opportunity to dream up new and exciting forms of horror content as well as build a real community for horror fans all over the world,” said Raimi. “It is an extraordinary time to be a content creator and we want to make the most of it." Shaftel Dean, College of Fine Arts 3 Abstract PARRISH, JORDAN G., M.A., August 2017, Film Studies The Undead Subject of Lost Decade Japanese Horror Cinema Director of Thesis: Ofer Eliaz This thesis argues that Japanese Horror films released around the turn of the twenty- first century define a new mode of subjectivity: “undead subjectivity.” Exploring the implications of this concept, this study locates the undead subject’s origins within a Japanese recession, decimated social conditions, and a period outside of historical progression known as the “Lost Decade.” It suggests that the form and content of “J- Horror” films reveal a problematic visual structure haunting the nation in relation to the gaze of a structural father figure. In doing so, this thesis purports that these films interrogate psychoanalytic concepts such as the gaze, the big Other, and the death drive. This study posits themes, philosophies, and formal elements within J-Horror films that place the undead subject within a worldly depiction of the afterlife, the films repeatedly ending on an image of an emptied-out Japan invisible to the big Other’s gaze.
