Question:

Is there any narration in Sunnite books which signifies distorting ? Answer:

1- it has been quoted from Ibn Abas that Umar ibn Khatab said in his oration that: “God truly sent (s.a.w.) as a prophet and sent down the Quran to him, therefore it contains the Rajm (stoning adulterers) verse and we recited and memorized it, the Prophet (s.a.w.) throw stone at people who committed adultery and we imitated him and I fear that if it takes a long time, people say that: we did not find Rajm verse at the Quran, so because of the abandonment of an obligatory duty which has been sent down by God, they will go astray, thus if a married man or woman commits adultery, he/she should be stoned, whenever a clear proof be provided or woman becomes pregnant or he/she confesses to commit adultery, I swear to God if no one had said that Umar added more verses into the Quran, I would have truly written this verse into the Quran”. (1)

This narration has been quoted in Musnad , , Sahih Bukhari,

Sunan Tirmizi, Mawtta Malik, Sunan and Sunan Darimi with differences in some terms.

It has been quoted in Sharh Nuwi about Sahih Muslim that: this is the Rajm verse:

ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺦ ﻭ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺨﻪ ﺍﺫﺍ ﺯﻧﻴﺎ ﻓﺎﺭ ﺟﻤﻮﻫﻤﺎ ﺍﻟﺒﺘﺔ (2)

“If an old man and an old woman committed adultery, surely they should be stoned”.

Then he explains that this verse was abrogated but its command is valid.

Those who disbelieved“){ﻟَﻢْ ﻳَﻜُﻦِ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳﻦَ ﻛَﻔَﺮُﻭﺍ}Following this verse of the Bayyinah surah 2- from among the followers”) (3), it has been quoted from Ahmad and Tirmizi and Hakim in

Tafsir al-Durr al-Manthur that Abi ibn Ka’b said:

{ﻟَﻢْ ﻳَﻜُﻦِ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳﻦَ ﻛَﻔَﺮُﻭﺍ},The Prophet (s.a.w.) said: God ordered me to recite this verse for you“

(“Those who disbelieved from among the followers”) then he said that God states: if son of Adam asks for a desert among temporal properties and

I give it to him, he will ask for next deserts, because the belly of Adam’s son will be filled with nothing but earth, but anyone who repents, Gad will accept his repentance, surely, the primordial religion of is the real religion from God, not polytheism nor Judaism and

Christianity. If anyone accepts this religion, he will not profane God”. (4)

According to this narration which has been quoted from Abi ibn Ka’b by the great Sunnite scholars, such as Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Hakim who has confirmed the authenticity of this narration in his Mustadrak that: “some verses have been added to the Bayyibah Surah, if this matter is true, these verses have been omitted from this Surah”.

3- Ahzab Surah is one the Surahs of the Quran which has 73 verses, but according to some narrations narrated by Sunnis this surah has had more verses than theses. Urwah ibn Zubayr quotes from Ayisha about Ahzab Surah that she said:

“Ahzab Surah has two hundred verses when it was recited at the time of the Prophet

(s.a.w.), but when wrote the Quran, he just found the same verses which are available now”. (5)

Siyuti also quotes from Abi ibn Ka’b in al-Durr al-Manthur through several ways that he said:

“not only Ahzab surah had as many verses as Baqara surah, but also it had more verses than

Baqara surah”. (6)

4- There are some narrations in Sunnite books which signify shortage of Tawba Surah.

Some of them are as follows:

Siyuti quotes from Hazifah ibn Yiman through several ways that he said:

“People recite a fourth of what we have recited”. (7)

“You recite a third of the surah”. (8)

Siyuti quotes from that he said: “Tawba surah had as many verses as Baqara in the name of) ”ﺑﺴﻢ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ“ surah and the first verses of the surah were omitted and also

God) was from those verses which were omitted”.(9)

5- Another narration has been quoted from Ayisha in that she said:

“Rajm (stoning adulterers) and Riza' (nursing) verses were sent down ten times and these two verses were on a paper under my bed, when the Prophet (s.a.w.) passed away, we were mourning for his holiness, a domestic animal entered our house and ate the paper”. (10)

It has been quoted from Ayisha in Sahih Muslim and Sunan Darimi that she said:

“This verse was sent down:

ﻋﺸﺮ ﺭﺿﻌﺎﺕ ﻣﻌﻠﻮﻣﺎﺕ ﻳﺤﺮﻣﻦ

“Nursing for ten times makes foster relationship (Hormat)”.

Then it was abrogated and replaced by five times, when the Prophet (s.a.w.) passed away, these verses were still recited from Quran”. (11)

Now, what is the reaction of Sunnite brothers to these clear proofs? Why do they accuse

Imamite and Shia of distorting Quran while their books, documents and narrative collections are full of narrations that signify distorting Quran? And some of them confirm that whatever they have quoted in their books is definitely correct. (12)Refrence:
