In close cooperation with the Jockeys’ Association, France Galop works continuously to improve the jockey’s equipment (body protector, helmet and track installations), as well as the racecourse installations. It is their goal to reduce the enormous daily risks faced by jockeys and horses as much as possible. 26 27 AFASEC RACING SCHOOLS, A YOUNG AND DYNAMIC DEPARTMENT The racing school, through the AFASEC (Educational and Social Association of racing stables) runs these educational centres, which are universally renowned. These schools are located in Gouvieux, Mont de Marsan and Cabries, and offer tuition to all stable staff (work riders and apprentices).

Each year, nearly 700 pupils, including 60% girls, begin a course that will take them from CAPA (certificate of competence in agriculture), to the BEPA (diploma of occupational studies in agriculture) or to A-level. This ground- breaking decision in the world of international racing was intended to enhance the profile of female jockeys in horse races, which is one of the few sports where women — and men compete against each other. Situated close to Chantilly racecourse, also run by france galop, this is one of the biggest training centres in the world, dedicated exclusively to racehorses. — Nearly 2,500 racehorses that are trained there all CHANTILLY year round. The centre stretches over 2,000 hectares of Chantilly forest.
