Tori Baldwin pulled the grape lollipop out of her mouth, tossed it in the garbage, and flipped the switch for the florescent green Open sign. Let’s make some money. She slid the window open and leaned outside. “Welcome to the Coffee Shack. What can I get you this morning?” An over-happy mother in an SUV with two kids sitting in the back seat held out a five-dollar bill. “I’d like a small latte, no whipped cream, please.” “Coming right up.” Tori stuck the small cup under the dispenser and turned to the woman. “Love advice is free with any order.” “Excuse me?” said the woman. “If you have a question or problem with your love life, I’ll give you advice on how to get back on track and smiling.” She slipped a drinking lid onto the cup and passed it through the window, taking the woman’s money. “Anything at all. I’m here to help.” “No, thanks. With kids and a husband I don’t have time to even think about a love life.” The woman laughed and waved off the change. “Keep it.” “Thank you.” She shrugged and waved to the next customer to pull forward. A German shepherd leaped over the lap of the driver and barked at her. She stepped away from the window, grabbed a dog biscuit from under the counter, and set the treat on the ledge. “What can I get you today?” “Straight, black coffee. Large.” A husky man with a dirty baseball cap pushed the dog down and followed it up with a pat. “Stay, Sergeant.” “Beautiful dog you have.” She poured the drink, added the lid, and handed it through the window. “Love advice is free with every purchase. Is there anything I can help you with today?” “Come on, you look like a guy some woman would be happy to meet.” She handed over the doggy treat. “Ask me anything at all.” His brows rose and he kept one hand on the dog. “Okay, I’ll give it a shot.” “Dude … you won’t regret it.” She grinned. “Where’s the best place to pick up women in this town?” He glanced in the rearview mirror. “Try to answer that one, ’cause I’m not having any luck. I’m a long-haul trucker, so I’m not around much but when I’m home, I’d like to have a little company. Maybe a home-cooked meal if you know what I’m saying.” “Gotcha.” She flipped her hair behind her shoulder and leaned forward. “Saturday night at Cactus Cove, there’s a waitress by the name of Ginger. She’s tired of normal pickup lines, so be blunt and upfront. Oh, and she has a cocker spaniel, so she loves dogs.” “Heh.” He removed his hat, ran his hand over his forehead. “Maybe I’ll stop in there. What can I lose, right?” “Not a penny. Ginger has brown hair down to her shoulders. About — she held her hand a few inches above her head — this tall. A real sweetie. Tell you what I’ll do. Give me your name. I’ll drop a few hints about you tonight when I go there for dinner.” He studied her, shook his head, and the laugh lines around his mouth deepened. “I can’t believe I’m doing this … ” She handed him the change. “Great. Here you go, Dwayne, and good luck with Ginger.” “Uh, thanks.” He glanced back at her as he drove away, shaking his head in amusement. Tori hadn’t been joking. Ginger was looking for a steady man in her life. For the next four hours, customers came and went. Tori refilled the machines and prepared for the next wave to arrive when the line emptied. Only working the morning hours would be enough to finance her stay in the quiet, off-the-main-road town of Pitnam, Oregon, and put away a little cash each week for her next trip. Once she locked up for the day, she’d have enough time to check out the town and do her own thing. She wiped down the counters, sealed the containers of coffee, and closed the blinds. Pitnam offered her enough entertainment for a while and was big enough she wouldn’t have to form any lasting relationships. For a brief time, she’d allow herself to fit in. She’d pretend she had what everyone else did. Then when the newness wore off and people started growing too close, she’d move on and reinvent herself somewhere else. She never regretted her nomad life. Not a single second thought happened during the day. But when she laid her head on the pillow to go to sleep, her dreams consumed her. When those wishes became too hard to control, she ran. A new location, new customers, and a new start. Hearing chest-thumping noise that rattled the mobile shack and sent the paper cups to falling on the counter, she glanced out the screen door. A group of men on motorcycles cruised around on the gravel, riding in a circle and stirring up dust. Well, they’d have to come back tomorrow for coffee. She was done for the day. After locking the Coffee Shack’s door, she walked around and double-checked the lock on the hitch. Unable to afford insurance, she devised a barrier to keep anyone from hooking onto the and stealing her only source of income. Breathing His Air. When her past meets his present, it's a killer cocktail that might get them shot, stabbed, or otherwise dead. Tori Baldwin spends all her time traveling the states, running a mobile coffee shack and handing out love advice with every cup. She’s staked her rig in the parking lot of Cactus Cove—a local biker bar by all appearances— and plans to stay put for three months. Just long enough to make some money, without making any friends, before she moves to her next destination as she tries to stay ahead of a painful past. Rain Brookshire is the leader of the Bantorus motorcycle club, and owner of the Cactus Cove in the small town of Pitnam, Washington. He wants the Lagsturns, a rival-bad-news motorcycle club, to leave town before they infect his town with trouble. With bullets flying and the Lagsturns putting on the pressure, the only way to keep Tori safe—since she refuses to leave town—is for Rain to claim her as his woman. She has no idea that Rain’s played his hand for all to see in the biker world. It doesn't help that Tori exhibits the three ideal classifications of his ideal woman—Classy, Sexy, and a total Goof— and he can't help but posture and lay down the law. But, when it appears Tori’s life is in danger, and the Lagsturns are innocent, he isn’t going to let the law stop him from keeping his woman safe. . more. Get A Copy. Friend Reviews. Reader Q&A. I struggled through the whole book, and almost gave up at the half way mark. I was just going to cut my los I have a problem. I see the words motorcycle club, and think hot motorcycle riding hero, and my eager little finger finds that damn one-click buy button on Amazon immediately. Well in the case of this book: Bad finger! Bad bad finger! Next time you will want to make a book buying decision for me, I’ll just tell you. This was a total dud for me. It felt like a watered down Kristen Ashley novel. I struggled through the whole book, and almost gave up at the half way mark. I was just going to cut my losses and mark it a DNF. But then my inner masochist piped in, “what if it get’s better?” “Just finish it,” it told me. I don’t think this had one redeeming factor for me. Perhaps readers that haven’t read other books with Motorcycle Clubs might enjoy this. I found it to be unbelievable and grating. We are supposed to believe that the hero is the leader of a Motorcycle Club that performs no illegal activity whatsoever. Nope! They are simply a club for brotherhood. Rain made his money through solid investments, and used it to open a bar, a garage, and a few other things that bring him money. How is this a Motorcycle Club? Maybe I’ve been ruined by the Motorcycle Man, Undeniable, and the Reaper’s Property but C’MON! Aside from a rivalry with another “bad” Motorcycle Club…that is all they do. Oh the other club is bad because they do illegal activities. Well…allrighty. Tori runs a mobile coffee shack and offers free love advice along with the coffee to her customers. Seriously? Oh, but then we get this little tidbit. (sadly this was not the only oxymoron throughout this book) Tori meets Rain after he rescues her from a rival Motorcycle Gang that is hitting on her. Then Rain, who has sworn off relationships due to being badly burned by a woman not long ago, practically declares Tori his woman the next day. But he does this to protect her. The things that truly killed this for me? The dialogue. ”I have one last thing to say to you.” Her eyes darkened with emotion. He peered down at her. “What?” “You’re mean. “ “A hotel? Get real, and quick, dude.” “What’s wrong with a hotel?” “Um, yeah, you’re paying for it. That’s what’s wrong,” she said. He shrugged. “Get over it” “You get over it.” She snorted and backed away. “What the hell?” “You can’t tell me what to do.” She lfted the clutched rock above her shoulder and let it fly in his direction. “I’m not your woman.” He dodged the rock. “You are.” “No, I’m not.” She picked up another stone and threw it toward him. “And no more kissing me.” Oh, and by the way, this is a conversation that takes place between a 36 year old man and a 24 year old woman. The overused phrases and endearments Reading Rain repeatedly referring to Tori as his “woman”, “goof”, or “babe” made me want to chuck my Kindle at the wall. Then there was also Rain’s penchant for using the phrase “Damn me”. 40% in I started developing a tick every time I read it. It was so grating, I even took the time to look it up and count all the times it was used. (yes, it bothered me THAT much) 1. Rain calling Tori his woman? 74 2.The word 'goof' to describe Tori? 23 (Although at times he switched it up by lovingly referring to her as bozo) 3.Babe? 164. “My woman doesn’t sleep on the couch. In the morning, I’m going to take my woman to buy some pretty clothes that’ll drive me wild and put a smile on her face, and if you go to bed like a good girl, I’ll see about kissing my woman in the morning after I cuddle with her tonight.” “I’ll be your woman. I mean, I’ll try.” She raised her head. “Okay?” The hardness in his face smoothed away, and he touched his forehead to hers, gazing into her eyes. “You were already my woman, babe, but it’s nice to hear. Real nice.” “I’m not leaving you alone, babe,” he whispered. “You’re my woman, and I take care of my woman.” “I’m Rain’s new woman. Don’t you forget it again.” Without letting Crystal continue the absurd conversation, she pivoted on the heel of her boot and leisurely walked back to Rain. She wanted Rain, and she’d fight anyone to have him. “Damn me … ” Rain studied her as he helped her onto his bike. “You mean that, babe?” I couldn’t find myself caring for any of the characters or the story. It was just too far fetched for me. There were plently that enjoyed it. I really wished I was one of those. But alas, live and learn. Maybe readers that would be able to see past the things that grated on me will be able to enjoy this. It did have the potential and makings of a great book, but it just fell flat. . more. Story Rating 5 Stars Character Rating 5 Stars Romance Rating 5 Stars Heat Level 3.5 Stars Overall Rating 5 Stars. LOVED IT. What a fantastic read, the story line and characters blew me away! The story starts off just after the heroine Tori parks her mobile trailer/ coffee shack in the parking lot of the Cactus Cove bar. On her walk across the parking lot to the bar to get a bite to eat, she is surrounded by several men on motorcycles who are blocking her way. Everywhere she turns to escape she is cut off by these men. Then one grabs her and pulls her onto his motorcycle and before she knows what's happening someone else nabs her from her abductor and is carrying her across the parking lot and into the bar. That someone is Rain, the leader of Bantorus motorcycle club and the owner of the bar. This story had so many things going for it. First, Tori and Rain are very unique characters. Tori has a haunted past that keeps her moving from town to town, never staying long enough to make friends. She runs a coffee shop out of a trailer and for each person who buys a coffee, she offers free love advice. She was such an endearing character. She was just as Rain described her, sexy, classy and goofy, traits that he found VERY attractive. Rain was an excellent leader, he was in charge of the motorcycle club, which he considered his family, and did a great job. He was very protective, dominant, caring, and also gentle. He was a SEXY bad boy, who on occasion had a silver tongue in his own gruff way. This book had some wonderful romantic elements. Some of the things Rain said to Tori literally took my breath away. "Listen to me." He sat back down, but kept his eyes on hers. "All I can tell you is I feel different with you. I want to kick everyone's ass that looks at you or thinks about you. I want to make every day perfect for you. Yes, I want to have sex, and we will. That's a promise. What I have with you, I've never once had with another woman. "Love is like air, babe. It's there all the time, and you don't even think about it, or you take it for granted. Then all of a sudden, you need it, or you can't breath. You inhale, and for the first time, you're aware it's keeping you alive. You fell it brush you skin all the time. Sometimes it's warm and other times it's cool, but it's there surrounding you, feeding you, holding you. When you finally realize it's love, you become vulnerable. With that new fear of not having air, you subconsciously allow someone special to breath life for you." "If You're going to fight for what we have together, you need the strength of your own power. the good, the bad, and every once of love you can carry in the palm of you hand." He reached out and hooked her neck, bringing her closer. " I have faith in you that you'll recognize the gift you have and hold it tight. You're special, babe. I believe it. Now you need to start believing it." "You'll make sure I don't hurt you?" Her breath mingled with his, He blinked slowly. "You won't." "You have to promise. " "I do. I will." He lowered his head until their foreheads touched. "Shit. Killing me, babe." "Don't move." She inhaled deeply. "I need your air." You've got it babe. As long as I'm breathing, it's yours." "You're everything good in life." He stroked the hair off of her face gently. "No one's made me cookie dough but you. That's the biggest thing anyone has done for me." He chuckled painfully. "You talk more than anyone I know, and keep me up late every night with stupid shit that I try to pretend not to care about, but I do. I want to hear everything if it has to do with you. I want you to continue testing desserts out on me, and welcoming the guys into the house, treating them like brothers, and serving them lemonade in those girly glasses you made me buy. You know, it goes against the man law to drink out of pink plastic cups, but they do it for you. Because you're you. The most giving person any of us know, and you're mine, babe. You're my Woman." Oh My…I'm sighing again!! I'm wanted Rain all for myself!! There was some great action, which kept the story moving and also a bit of a mystery of who was trying to get to Tori. The revelation of Tori's past was shocking, but with Rain’s help, she was finally able to put that part of her life to rest, so that she could live her life and stop running. The love scenes where very well done, nothing too kinky, but with just the right amount of heat to keep me satisfied. The author included an excellent epilogue, giving us a look into Rain and Tori's future, along with an HEA that made me very happy! I feel in love with this book and sincerely hope that after reading my review that you will give this wonderful book a try…you won’t regret it! *A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review* 2.
