It is organised by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the first edition was held in 1930. The 19th edition is hosted in South Africa from the 11th of June to the 11th of July 2010. For the FIFA World Cup 2010™, all clubs have to release their players for the tournament according to the FIFA regulations: in accordance with Article 36 Paragraphs 2b) and 5c) of the Status and Transfer of Players, “if a player is called up, he must be released to play in the final competition organised by FIFA or a confederation and held in a period fixed/set in the calendar.
