You have no outstanding financial obligations to the University or other holds against your student account.

DO I HAVE A PENDING HOUSING GUARANTEE? All housing guarantees are pending completion of the 2016-2017 Housing Application and dependent on how students were admitted to the as a first year student. Prospective freshmen who are admitted through Adimissions and Financial Aid for the fall term and pay their $300 enrollment fee by May 1 and their $325 housing deposit by their designated due date are guaranteed on-campus housing. This guarantee is good for three years, provided that all housing application and deposit deadlines for each subsequent year have been met. The Housing Information e-mail states whether or not you are a guaranteed student. If you believe you are entitled to a pending housing guarantee but find your Housing Information e-mail does not state such, contact Panther Central immediately. To keep your housing guarantee valid for the next year (2016-17) you must meet the housing application processing and deposit deadline of February 1, 2016.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A PENDING HOUSING GUARANTEE Freshmen who currently live in the residence halls and who, upon entering the University, paid their tuition deposit on or before May 1, 2015, have a pending housing guarantee . Sophomores who currently live in the residence halls or apartment-style accommodations and who, upon entering the University, paid their tuition deposit on or before May 1, 2014, and met their renewal housing deposit and application deadline of February 1, 2015, have a pending housing guarantee. Other students with a pending housing guarantee, including full-academic scholars, Resident Assistants for 2016-17, full-scholarship athletes, and students with physical disabilities. Greek organization member students can gain a guarantee of housing to their specific Greek organization housing unit. This guarantee is limited to the total number of accommodations in the unit. In order to obtain this guarantee, your president must notify Panther Central by February 1, 2016 of your intent to reside in the unit. Your housing deposit and application must be completed by February 1, 2016. Housing Eligibility and Guarantee

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A GUARANTEE? We encourage any senior or other non-guaranteed student who would like on-campus housing to submit their housing application, including the payment of the housing deposit, by the due date of February 1, 2016. By submitting your application with deposit payment by the due date, you will be automatically entered onto our electronic housing waitlist, which is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the online housing selection and retention processes for guaranteed students are complete, Panther Central will determine availability of beds and will contact you via your pitt.edu email account or personal phone number. Please note: the phone number we have on file is sent to us by the Office of the University Registrar. You will have an opportunity to review your contact information when completing the housing application. Please contact the Registrar if your contact information needs to be updated. Students will be contacted by Panther Central on a first-come, first-served basis. Your housing deposit is fully refundable if we are not able to find a bed for you, or if you choose to cancel your housing application prior to being assigned. If you have any questions about the non-guaranteed student process, please contact Panther Central. ARE ANY OTHER STUDENTS GUARANTEED HOUSING? In addition to the incoming freshmen who are guaranteed housing, there are other categories of students who are guaranteed housing, provided they pay the $325 deposit and process their housing application by the due date of February 1, 2016. These include 2016–17 Resident Assistants, full-scholarship athletes, full-academic scholars, and students with physical disabilities. Your academic class and housing selection index number will be used to determine the order in which you will select your room.

HOW DO I PROCESS MY HOUSING APPLICATION? Panther Central emails detailed housing application instructions to every student at their pitt.edu email address. The first step of the process is to complete and submit the online housing application, which includes the payment of the $325 housing deposit, by February 1, 2016. If you receive a full scholarship or a full financial aid package, you may have your $325 housing deposit deferred. In order to defer the deposit, you must submit verification of your full scholarship or full aid package to Panther Central. The submission of the housing application, including the payment of the $325 housing deposit, must be completed by February 1 2016. There are no exceptions, nor will any extensions be provided. Failure to meet this date will result in the loss of any and all guarantees. By completing the Housing Application, you are agreeing to a two-term housing contract for both Fall 2016 and Spring 2017. General Room Selection and Retention

AM I ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ROOM RETENTION OR SELECTION PROCESS? You are eligible if you paid the $325 deposit, met the housing application deadline, and have both a housing guarantee and a valid housing selection index number. CAN I REMAIN IN MY CURRENT ROOM? As long as you are eligible to participate in room retention, you can retain your current room assignment by participating in the room retention process, which takes place online, February 10, 2016. After February 10, the room retention process will be suspended. You must currently reside in the room you wish to retain. Please reference page 10 of this book for a list of rooms that are excluded from the room retention process. The University reserves the right to designate currently occupied rooms as unavailable. If you retain your room, you will not be eligible to participate in room or suite/ apartment-style selection. CAN I SELECT A NEW ROOM? If you are eligible to participate in room selection, then you can select a new room assignment by following the room selection process for your academic class. Please refer to pages 11 and 12 for more details. Suite and Apartment-style Selection

SUITE AND APARTMENT-STYLE SELECTION To be eligible for suite and apartment-style selection, the number of students must equal the designated suite or apartment capacity. A student may only participate as a member of one group. Any student found to be a part of more than one group voids suite selection for the members of all associated groups. Each group is required to complete a Suite and Apartment-Style Application and to nominate a group representative on the application. The Suite and Apartment-Style Application will be available at Panther Central on January 9, 2016, and are due back at Panther Central no later than February 8, 2016. * Important: If students currently living together as part of a suite or apartment want to retain the suite or apartment but no longer want to live together, all students in the suite or apartment must follow the normal Suite and Apartment-style Selection Process. A bid process is used to determine suite and apartment-style selection based upon the information provided on the Suite and Apartment-Style Applications. Each student of the suite or apartment group is given points for their class standing as follows: juniors = 3 points, sophomores = 2 points. Panther Central determines the selection order among the groups based upon the highest bid total. The lowest housing selection index number in each group is used to break ties among groups. On February 17, 2016, at 5 p.m., Panther Central will post a schedule at the office and online at pc.pitt.edu indicating when each group is scheduled for Suite and Apartment-style Selection. Suite and Apartment-style Selection takes place online on February 24, 25, and 26, 2016. Group representatives must be prepared to make suite, apartment, room, and meal plan selections for all students. Students who are unable to participate in the Suite and Apartment-style Selection Process may participate in room selection with their appropriate class. Suite and Apartment-Style Retention

SUITE AND APARTMENT-STYLE RETENTION In order to retain your apartment or suite, at least 50 percent of the current residents must return next fall and they must all have a housing guarantee. Returning suitemates and apartmentmates will be responsible for recruiting additional persons necessary for 100 percent occupancy. All persons must have a valid housing guarantee at the time of applications. If these criteria are met, then you can retain your suite or apartment by following the suite and apartment-style retention process. The University reserves the right to designate currently occupied suites/apartments as unavailable for retention. SUITE AND APARTMENT-STYLE RETENTION PROCESS Your group must complete the Room/Suite and Apartment-style Retention Application, which includes but is not limited to each student’s PeopleSoft number, meal plan choice for next year, and the Personalized Housing PIN. The application must be submitted to Panther Central no later than Monday, February 8, 2016. Each group must assign a group representative on the application who will be responsible for submitting the Room/Suite and Apartment-Style Retention Application. This involves returning the completed application to Panther Central by Monday, February 8, 2016. Panther Central will then notify the group representative of the retention status of the group, e.g. confirm whether or not they are eligible to retain their desired room, suite, or apartment. Individual cancellations after retention/selection could invalidate assignments for the remaining occupants. Any suite or apartment occupant canceling after April 15, 2016, will forfeit the $325 housing deposit. Panther Central retains the right to fill suite or apartment vacancies.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES SUITE AND APARTMENT-STYLE RETENTION TAKE PLACE? Retention takes place online Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Only the group representative is permitted access to the online selection site. Group representatives must be prepared to make both the suite selection and the individual room selections for all suitemates, as well as the meal plans for all the suitemates. To assist the group representative, use the completed copy of the Suite and Apartment-Style Retention Application to identify meal plan selection. Communities within Housing

LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES After completing the housing application online, you will be redirected to your previously indicated Living Learning Community Application if applicable. When you request an accommodation in a special living community, you must complete a supplemental application. By completing the LLC application, you are agreeing to abide by the established guidelines and programs of that community. You can obtain more detailed information regarding the criteria for the special living communities from the Office of Residence Life, located on the ninth floor of the , or online at studentaffairs.pitt.edu/reslife/llc. GENDER NEUTRAL HOUSING Gender Neutral housing is available for guaranteed, upper-class students who wish to live together regardless of sex, gender, gender identity, or expression. Gender Neutral housing is available exclusively in apartments. HOW DO I APPLY FOR GENDER NEUTRAL HOUSING? To be eligible for Gender Neutral Housing, Student(s) will complete a Suite and Apartment-Style Application, indicating potential roommate(s), suite/apartment size and Gender Neutral housing. A group representative is also required to be identified on the application. The number of students listed on the application, must equal the designated suite or apartment capacity. A student may only participate as a mem- ber of one group. Any student found to be a part of more than one group voids suite selection for the members of all associated groups. Applications will be available at Panther Central on January 9, 2016, and are due back at Panther Central no later than February 8, 2016. HOW DOES THE SELECTION PROCESS WORK? A bid process is used to determine suite and apartment-style selection, including Gender Neutral applicants, based upon the information provided on the Suite and Apartment-style Selection Applications. Each student of the suite or apartment group is given points for their class standing as follows: juniors = 3 points, sopho- mores = 2 points. Panther Central determines the selection order among the groups based upon the highest bid total. The lowest housing selection index number in each group is used to break ties among groups. Panther Central will contact the group leader directly after suite/apartment bid win- ners are determined. Gender Neutral bid winners will NOT book themselves through the typical housing selection process. Instead, Panther Central will manually assign the group after speaking to the group leader. If groups do not win a bid, students are encouraged to participate in General Room Selection at their corresponding time. Please refer to pages 11 and 12 for more details.
