Kohler, WI 53083 TIMELINE: Please submit cover letter and resume by March 1, 2020 Approx. employment dates: July 13, 2020– October 23, 2020 CONTACT: Brian Powers, Operations Coordinator [email protected] ESCRIPTION: The 2020 Ryder Cup is seeking hard-working individuals to join our operations team. This 30 to 35- D person team of Operations Assistants will play a vital role in executing one of the most prominent sporting events in the world. Every two years, the Ryder Cup brings together 12-member teams from the U.S. and Europe for glory and pride on a three-day worldwide stage. Spanning 92 years and now 42 competitions, the Ryder Cup also is among the last great professional sporting events where winning, and not prize money, is the reward. UTIES: The Operations Assistants will help the 2020 Ryder Cup Operations Staff in the construction, daily D operation and deconstruction of the Ryder Cup. While on-site at Whistling Straits, you will get a “behind the scenes glimpse” into major event management. This position requires a strong work ethic, since most of the jobs are labor intensive. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to: trailer placement, furniture distribution, landscaping, painting, wind screening, operating heavy machinery, and organizing deliveries. A successful Ryder Cup depends on your willingness to learn, ability to make informed decisions and cooperation within a team. Individuals must be able to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment. This is a deadline-driven event, and you must be able to work long hours, outdoors, and weekends. It is imperative to act professionally because you will represent the 2020 Ryder Cup staff. This is a paid position, and all Operations Assistants will be employed on a temporary basis through an outside agency and are not employees of the PGA of America. All applicants must pass a background check and provide their own transportation. A PGA housing option will be provided if needed. Lunch, beverages and uniforms will be provided for each working day.     20th Annual Canadian Open Hickory Championship The Legends GCC Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada The 2019 Canadian Open Hickory Championship was held the week of August 12-16 at the Legends G&CC Sherwood Park, Alberta. The hickory event included a 2-day road trip on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday Scramble, Thursday USA/Canada match (Ryder Cup format) and Friday Championship tournament. 32 players made the Monday road trip to the 18 hole Barrhead GC about an hour north of Edmonton. The Barrhead Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course designed by the renowned Les Furber. It has been included in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” for the last three years and is remarked as a must stop for all Central Alberta golf enthusiasts. 36 players made the Tuesday road trip to the Jack Nicklaus designed Northern Bear golf course just southwest of Sherwood Park. Winner of numerous awards, the Bear is a perfect blend of tree lined fairways, strategic bunker placements, five lakes, and USGA standard greens. The Wednesday scramble really marks the beginning of the tournament because you get to play the home course, meet new players, pony up some cash and get the competitive fires burning. 60 players were categorized as A,B,C and D players and teams are created at random as evenly as possible. This years team with a -13 score featured Ken Plaunt, John Collins, Gary Proctor, Fuzz Bazinet and Darcy Riopka. Ken’s 3 year son Blake tagged along to read the putts! After the round, players and other invitees visited a local home for a burger and chicken BBQ, a drink (or two!), lots of tales told and a viewing of a golf memorabilia collection.

The 103rd edition of the Championship in August 2021 returns to the renowned Pete Dye-designed oceanfront layout in South Carolina after its first visit in 2012, when Rory McIlroy captured the Wanamaker Trophy by a record-setting margin. The Ocean Course is one of four venues to host each of the PGA of America’s major championships – the Ryder Cup (1991), the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid (2007) and the PGA Championship. In 1911 he arrived in America with his brother George who came here to play exhibitions. The Philadelphia Cricket Club’s professional Willie Anderson had died in late 1910 and Alex was hired to replace him. Duncan had been an assistant at the Hanger Hill Club in the suburbs of London where George was the professional. On two occasions he was the professional and green superintendent at the Cricket Club. He was the professional at the Cricket Club from 1911 through 1915. In 1916 Duncan moved west and soon became the pro- fessional at the Chicago Golf Club. He returned to the Cricket Club in 1925 for another stay that lasted until his death 21 years later. In 1929 he was the tournament chairman and handled a difficult problem with the rules at the Section Championship to the satis- faction of all involved. In 1930 he was elected second vice president of the Section and the next year he was elected president. He served two years as the Philadelphia Section’s seventh president.
