Tagesvorschlag Westküste Roller Faliraki KLEINER ENTDECKERFLUCHTPLAN ROUTENVERLAUF WO GEHTS HIN? • Faliraki • Schmetterlingstal • Kamiros • Kritinia • Embonas • 7 Quellen Epta Pages 132km 3:01 Fahrtzeit Hier klicken FALIRAKI 35 Min SCHMETTERLINGSTAL Am einfachsten ist es wenn man auf der Schnellstraße (nicht Küstenstraße) erstmal Richtung Rhodos fährt. Dann nach ca. 4Km links Richtung Flughafen abbiegen. Dann folgt man der Straße bis zur Westküste wo man am Flughafen vorbei, wieder in Richtung Süden fährt. Im Ort Theologos biegt man links ab und folgt der Beschilderung zum „Butterfly Valley“ SCHMETTERLINGSTAL 1,5 Stunden 5€ Eintritt Angeberwissen Amberbäume wachsen in ganz Griechenland nur in diesem Wald. Diese Bäume locken durch ihr Harz, die Schmetterlinge an. In den Monaten Juli bis Mitte September bedecken ganze Schwärme von Schmetterlingen (genannt russischer Bär) die Bäume. Das Tal umgibt ein schöner Wald durch den ein kleiner Bach fließt. SCHMETTERLINGSTAL 30 Min KAMIROS Wieder zurück zur Westküste auf dem gleichen Weg. Dann links, weiter Richtung Süden. Im Ort Kalavarda muss man einmal rechts abbiegen. Auf dem Schild steht „Ancient Kamiros 5km“. KAMIROS 45 Minuten 5€ Eintritt Angeberwissen Auch genannt „das Pompei von Rhodos. Einst eine der drei antiken Städte der Insel (Neben Ialisos und Lindos). Man geht davon aus dass die Stadt von einem Erdrutsch verschüttet wurde. Heute kann man noch die Ruinen des einstigen Handelszentrum bestaunen. KAMIROS 15 Min KRITINIA Auf der Küstenstraße weiter Richtung Süden. Nach dem Ort „Kamiros Skala“ geht die Abzweigung zum „Kritinia Castle“ rechts weg. KRITINIA 20 Minuten Eintritt frei Angeberwissen Kritinia wurde einst von den Einwanderern Kretas benannt. Kreta wird auf griechisch „Kriti“ ausgesprochen. Die Burg wurde im 16. Jahrhundert erbaut und war perfekt zur Verteidigung geeignet da man von oben 360 Grad rundherum sehen kann. Was bis Heute blieb sind die Ruinen und der einzigartige Ausblick auf das Ägäische Meer. KRITINIA 20 Min EMBONAS Es geht weiter auf der Küstenstraße Richtung Süden. Die Straße führt jetzt ein wenig weiter ins Landesinnere. Nach ca. 9km biegt man dann links nach Embonas ab. Angeberwissen Embonas ist ein kleines ursprüngliches Bergdorf. Hier ist es perfekt für eine Pause. Man kann z. B. einen typischen Gyros Pita genießen oder sich bei den vielen Wein- und Olivenbauern umschauen. EMBONAS 50 Min 7 QUELLEN Von Embonas geht es zuerst geographisch zurück Richtung Norden durch das Landesinnere. Ca. 7km nach dem Ortsausgang geht es rechts nach Apollona. Nach ca. 13km findet man die 7 Quellen (7 Springs) auf der rechten Seite nach dem Ort Archipoli. 7 QUELLEN 45 Minuten Eintritt frei Angeberwissen Die sieben Quellen liegen in einem schönen Waldgebiet. Neben einem kleinen Restaurant entspringen dort 7 Quellen aus dem Boden die in einem kleinen Bachlauf zusammen laufen. Man sagt, wer von allen sieben Quellen trinkt, lebt sieben Jahre länger. Das Wasser aus den Quellen ist trinkbar. 7 QUELLEN 20 Min FALIRAKI Von den Quellen aus weiter Richtung Ostküste. Nach ca. 3km kommt man an der Ostküstenstraße auf Höhe Kolymbia raus. Von dort aus nach links in Richtung Faliraki. GUTE REISE & VIEL SPAß.

Jänner 2009 The herpetofauna of the Island of Rhodes (Dodecanese, Greece) Die Herpetofauna der Insel Rhodos (Dodekanes, Griechenland) THOMAS BADER & CHRISTOPH RIEGLER & HEINZ GRILLITSCH KURZFASSUNG Die Herpetofauna von Rhodos wird aufgrund von Literaturdaten, Sammlungsmaterial des Naturhistorischen Museums in Wien sowie Ergebnissen diverser herpetologischer Exkursionen aufgelistet. Verbreitungskarten aller nachgewiesenen Arten sowie eine aktuelle herpetologische Faunenliste werden erstellt. Folgende Arten wurden regelmäßig und wiederholt festgestellt: Bufo viridis, Hyla arborea, Pelophylax cerigensis, Mauremys rivulata, Hemidactylus turcicus, Laudakia stellio, Ophisops elegans, Lacerta trilineata, Anatolacerta oertzeni, Ablepharus kitaibelii, Chalcides ocellatus, Trachylepis aurata, Blanus strauchi, Typhlops vermicularis, Dolichophis sp., Platyceps najadum, Hemorrhois nummifer, Zamenis situla, Natrix natrix, Telescopus fallax. Der taxonomische Status der Springnatter wird diskutiert. Aufgrund mehrerer aktueller Funde wird Mediodactylus kotschyi ergän- zend zur Herpetofauna von Rhodos hinzugefügt und das Auftreten folgender Arten, deren Vorkommen in der Literatur regelmäßig für Rhodos angegeben wurde, in Frage gestellt: Testudo graeca, Pseudopus apodus, Natrix tessellata.     Rhodes (Rhodos): 4-11 April 2007 I went to the Greek island of Rhodes (Rhodos) during the week from 4 to 11 April 2007. It was just me and my girlfriend Luisa, and we took a rather relaxed holiday, surely not a 6 am – 8 pm birding thing! Before going, I checked the available web resources, but I did not purchase any specific book, apart from a 1:100.000 map (Road Editions, nr. 202). It was clear that there are not dozens of report or other useful infos, in fact Rhodes seems to be pretty ignored by most birders. I was in touch with Jos Rutten and I even met him twice during our stay (the first one... by chance!). He's from Belgium and he seems to be the most expert birder for that island; he gave me an interesting Rhodes check list which turned out to be very useful. In my small web site there's a gallery of sites and some birds mentioned in this report. I also had, but actually never used, a brochure from www.rodosisland.gr which contains information on many walking trails on the island, including small photos and maps; the pages were originally by Graf Editions (2004); this document anyway is not at all about birdwatching. We stayed in Sun Beach hotel which is in the Ialysos area, in the NW side, between the airport and Rhodes town. Actually I suggest to choose an accommodation in the opposite side of the island, which is more or less just north or south of Lindos.

The objective is to investigate the effects in the natural environment and the offered tourist product. The factors which were taken into account are: • The effect of tourism in the natural resources • The changes that tourism brought to the economy and to the sectors of production • The changes in land uses of the region because of tourist development • The attitude of local authorities and hotel keepers owners regarding environmental problems • The environmental and tourist policy • The institutional framework The research focused on the tourist development of the region from 1970 up to today. The approach of the effect of tourist development in the natural environment of Faliraki was based on interviews in combination with on the spot observations as well as comparative study of maps of the region. The research aimed at determining: • The environmental problems because the tourist development • The tendencies of tourist development of region • The attitude of citizens on issues protection of environment The interviews took place through the use of a questionnaire and were addressed to the Directors - Owners of the hotels and to the local authorities. There were also interviews of the chairmen of the union of hotel keepers of Rhodes and Greece, the association of beach-umbrella makers, the union of rooms-to-lent owners of Faliraki, as well as of other businessmen.

Karpathos, Patmos, Leros, Symi, Kalymnos, and Astypalaia have managed to keep their traditional flavour despite the fact that large numbers of tourists visit them. The smaller islands, with lower rates of growth, like Tilos, Nisyros, Leipsoi, Chalki, Kasos, Kastel- lorizo, Agathonisi, Telendos and Pserimos are a fine choice for relaxed and peaceful holidays. These islands have a rich and very long history. More than 100 foreign parliamentarians and ministers of Greek origin attended the high-profile general assembly of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association, held be- tween July 29 and August 2. Coming from as far away as North America, Australia and Zimbabwe, members of this association, established in 1996, were welcomed by Greek parliamentarians, including Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis and Culture Minister Anto- nis Samaras.
