2012 MASTER ANGLER Highlights
2012 MASTER ANGLER Highlights Time once again to celebrate successful anglers in In-Fisherman’s Master Angler Awards Program. Since 1975, readers have submitted records of catches of North America’s most popular fish species, by mail and on the company website, in-fisherman.com. This year, the commit- tee granted 544 awards, a substantial increase from last year. Clearly, readers are enjoying the easy on-line application process. In In-Fisherman, we’ve been highlighting outstanding smallmouth bass fisheries and this species dominated the program with 88 lunkers. Largemouth bass followed (68), with pike (61), muskie (41), and rainbow/steelhead (36), and walleye (33) next. Muskie entries have never before topped those for walleyes. To find hot lakes and prime times to fish them, peruse these records. For example, Bob Daly of Indiana has con- sistently picked a prime time to target coho salmon in Alaska, bagging the two biggest this year as well as the larg- est one in 2011, all from the Cinder River. Anglers landed three pike of 50 inches or more, fish of a lifetime: one from Alaska, one from famous Reindeer Lake and one from Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area. And speaking of massive toothies, consider Ryan Marjama’s 58½-inch muskie from Leech Lake, Minnesota, caught on a sucker rig! For the scoop on this deadly pre- sentation, check the new In-Fisherman Pike & Muskie Guide on news stands or available on our website. On a smaller scale, give props for Arthur Huttemeyer Sr.'s 31-inch pickerel from Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey. -

Letter to Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader Mccarthy About Housing
July 20, 2021 The Honorable Nancy Pelosi The Honorable Kevin McCarthy Speaker of the House House Minority Leader U.S. House of Representatives U.S. House of Representatives H-232 U.S. Capitol H-204 U.S. Capitol Washington, D.C. 20515 Washington, D.C. 20515 Dear Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader McCarthy: We write to highlight the urgent need for substantial affordable housing infrastructure investments as part of the broader effort to repair and modernize our nation’s critical infrastructure systems. Without proportional affordable housing investments, there is no path for an equitable recovery and long term financial stability for low and middle income American families. If we fail to act now, our nation’s economic growth will continue to be held back by the over 7 million unit deficit in affordable homes. Our current low affordable housing inventory is a significant driver of higher housing costs, which in turn strains limited federal rental assistance programs. Despite the clear and urgent need, only one in four households who qualify for housing assistance receives it due to decades of chronic underfunding by Congress. Millions of eligible households are currently stuck on waiting lists – often for several years – hoping for help to come sooner. The long wait for help sets families further back year after year. Eight million of the lowest- income renters pay at least half of their income on rent, leaving them without the resources they need to put food on the table, purchase needed medications, or make ends meet. Coronavirus and the compounding effects of explosive wildfires and extreme weather events have made the need for affordable housing more clear than ever in both rural and urban communities. -

This Was an Historic Election. a Record Number of People Voted and Became Politically Active for the First Time
This was an historic election. A record number of people voted and became politically active for the first time. Thanks to your support, we elected Joe Biden and helped to re-elect many JAC candidates who will work side-by-side with the Biden administration towards our common goals. Although not all the election results were what we hoped for, together we took an important step to save our democracy. Despite the pandemic, JAC stayed very busy during this election season. Our members sent out more than 40,000 postcards, phoned and texted voters in key battleground races. JAC was able to offer you, via Zoom, meetings with candidates and leading policy experts. Through your generosity, JAC was involved in more than 110 races across the country. We are sending two new Senators to Washington. Hopefully, after the special runoff election in Georgia on January 5th, we will be sending two more members — Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock — to the Senate as well. These are must-win races if we ever hope to remove the gavel from Mitch McConnell’s hands and implement Joe Biden’s agenda. We hope we can count on you to step up one more time. These past four years have proven that elections have consequences. You can donate to Jon’s campaign or Rev. Warnock’s campaign. Click here to find out other ways to get involved and turn Georgia blue. Many races this year were decided by razor thin margins, proving clearly that every vote does count. As of press time, there were still several uncalled Congressional races. -

Congressman Seth Moulton Endorses Kai Kahele for Congress
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 16, 2020 CONTACT: Micah Alameda 808-783-4069 EMAIL: [email protected] CONGRESSMAN SETH MOULTON ENDORSES KAI KAHELE FOR CONGRESS [HONOLULU] – Massachusetts Congressman and former Presidential candidate, Seth Moulton (D), through his political organization Serve America, announced his endorsement of Sen. Kai Kahele’s candidacy for Congress today: “I am happy to endorse Kai Kahele for Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District. Kai is a proven leader who has already demonstrated his commitment to equality, fairness, education, and opportunity through his work in the Hawaiʻi State Senate. He is also an 18-year veteran, pilot, and commissioned officer in the Hawaiʻi Air National Guard who served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. I know he will bring that sense of duty to Washington.” Serve America supports military veterans, other service-driven candidates and next generation leaders running for federal, state and local offices. Congressman Moulton believes these candidates come better prepared to serve with leadership skills and unique and critical perspectives to offer. In 2018, Serve America supported 21 successful congressional candidates, 18 of whom flipped seats from red to blue. “I am honored by Congressman Moulton’s endorsement of my campaign and to be included in Serve America’s first round of endorsements for the 2020 election cycle. I am proud to join the ranks of the other Serve America candidates from across the country and look forward to working with them to come up with solutions to the many critical issues facing our nation today,” said Kahele. Kahele serves as Majority Floor Leader and Chairman of the Committee on Water and Land in the Hawaiʻi State Senate where he represents his hometown of Hilo. -

Floating Bait Rig for Catching Trout the Best Method for Catching Trout Here Is Known As the Floating Bait Rig
Floating Bait Rig for Catching Trout The best method for catching trout here is known as the Floating Bait Rig. We recommend this setup. The sliding sinker allows the trout to pick up the bait and not feel the weight, which might make the fish spit out the hook. The size of the weight depends on the time of year. In winter, use lighter weights because the trout are closer to shore (warmer water). In summer, use the ½ oz. weight because the fish are out in deeper (cooler) water. 4 lb. line 2 - 4 lb. line 1/8 to 1/2 #12 or 14 snap swivel #14 to 18 oz. sliding treble hook sinker The most important part of this setup is the length of leader. During winter, the length should be 2 ft. In spring and summer, the length should be 3 ft. and in summer, it should be 4 to 5 ft. Changing conditions make it important for the bait to float where the fish are. The best way is to ask the Ranger what length is best. More fish are caught on nightcrawlers than any other bait here at the lake. Use ½ of a nightcrawler and wrap the cut end around a size 16 bronze treble hook. Gently blow up the loose end with a worm blower. Put worm in water to be sure that you have put in enough air so that it floats. The other option is to put the worm on 2 of the 3 hooks and put a plain white marshmallow on the 3rd hook. -
