With just over two minutes remaining in the first golden-goal overtime period, senior forward Sydney Leroux, UCLA’s top goal scorer, slid home the game-winning goal from about 22 yards out. Sarah Killion played the ball to Leroux, who turned and carried it up the middle of the field, then picked her spot and slid a hard, low shot to the bottom left corner of goal. It was her 14th goal of the season. The Ute defense was stout throughout the game, holding UCLA to just five shots-on-goal and senior goalkeeper Hannah Turpen saved four of them, including a second-half point-blank stop against Leroux. UCLA did not get its first shot-on-goal of the game until more than 10 minutes into the second half. Total shots went 21-4 in UCLA’s favor, with shots-on-goal going 5-2. Corner kicks were 7-2 for the Bruins, but fouls were whistled 13-7 against them. Katelyn Rowland made two saves in the Bruin net to record the shutout, her conference-leading ninth clean sheet of the season. The loss snapped a seven-game home win streak for the Utes. Utah is now 1-1-1 in overtime this season, including a 1-1 mark against Top-25 opposition.
