32nd Vienna City Marathon 12 April 2015 run vienna – enjoy classics Vienna City Marathon 2015 Information about Austria’s biggest sports event at a glance The Vienna City Marathon 2015 runs with the Motto of “We are Europe”. Running as an expression of peaceful co-existence and personal freedom, independent of nation, religion and skin colour: the Vienna City Marathon puts this experience at the forefront with its new theme for the year. The event on April 12, 2015 and the build-up to the big day will have this theme as its guiding light. Run Vienna – Enjoy Classics The Vienna City Marathon (VCM) brings together the classic tourist images of Vienna combined with modern lifestyle. This unique combination of a musical world tradition, cultural heritage and contemporary running event makes the VCM unique. The fast and scenic course leads to Vienna's most impressive modern and historic points of interest such as the Opera House and Schönbrunn Castle with an impressive finish at ‚Heldenplatz‘ in the very centre of the city. Runners discover their rhythm in tune with the melodies of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the waltz king Johann Strauß with more than ten kilometres of the course resounding to music. The programme of events offers runners of every ability the chance to experience Vienna in their running. A marathon, a half marathon and a relay marathon are stages simultaneously. Kids races take centre stage already on Saturday and provide an emotional highlight of the event. Exciting running performances Some of the fastest runners in the world have won here, including running legend Haile Gebrselassie, marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe and double world champion Abel Kirui. In 2014 Ethiopian Getu Feleke set a course record of 2:05:41 which remains the seventh fastest marathon winning time that year. The Vienna City Marathon is an IAAF Gold Label Road Race. Side Events in the race week A number of side events make the running weekend a special occasion. Highlight is the "International Friendship Party" on Saturday before the race. The exquisite neo-gothic banqueting suite of Vienna's Town Hall provides an inspiring atmosphere where people enjoy delicious Italian pasta and fantastic "Kaiserschmarrn", a traditional Viennese pancake. The VCM-Expo “Vienna Sports World” attracts the visitors as an entertaining come-together of the newest trends in sports and running.
