i • Alliance has not always had the best reputation. Other schools looked down onus for everything from our academics to the performance of our sports teams on the field. But in the 2010-2011 school year, we proved our critics wrong. For the first time, the Alliance City School District was rated Excellent by the state of Ohio. Our cross country and swimming teams sent representatives to regional and district meets. We have added more challenging classes, including dual credit and Tech Prep, plus a couple of new sports teams. We have also taken measures to ensure our school is a happy and safe place. We have shown the world that dynamic. WE legendary. WE ARE involved. WE ARE distinctive. WE ARE 875 Strong.

WE ARE Alliance, and WE ARE... Hlli j •••' -"*

With one game left in the season, they were one win shy of their goal. The team ultimately finished second in the league. Rainy weather had a major impact on the season, causing many postponements. However, led by seniors Austin Croteau and Jeramy Keane, the team boasted a record of 19-6. "We've done pretty well," Coach Mr. Graffice commented. The two seniors were instrumental to the team's season among a lineup of mostly sophomores. With a young team, working on defense was the key to success. "I knew at the beginning, since we were so inexperienced at some spots that our defense was struggling," Coach Graffice said. Late inning wins played an important role in the standings. Three come-from-behind wins gave the team a never-give-up attitude. The games came against rivals Marlington, West Branch, and Minerva. The JV team had a league record of 5-7 and an overall record of 9-10. According to Coach Beichler, rainy weather made it difficult for the team to gain I momentum. Many students from schools such as Marlington and Minerva come to AHS to take these classes because our school offers more vocation classes than many of the schools around here. Students love these classes. Some students take these classes just because they think they will be fun, but many take them because they want to pursue a career in the field. When Mrs. Patterson graduated from Marietta College with a degree in Communications, she knew she wanted to teach. T don't think it occurred to me to do anything else," she said. And that's what she has done for 33 years, bringing her curiosity, enthusiasm and love of learning to the classroom. She came to AHS in 1972, when there were 2,000 students in a brand new building. At first she taught Speech, but later switched to freshman and junior English, including Honors classes. She also went on to earn her master's degree at Kent State University. For Mrs. Patterson, the best part of teaching is learning: "I love being in touch with the future, learning the language, technology and interests of the students." As she retires, she plans to "read, travel, volunteer, go to school, stay curious...and maybe teach."

75 Keeping You Healthy Now And preparing you for the future.

Overall, kids have been participating and doing more in Health and P.E. Even a lot of the girls are in the weight lifting classes. The teachers have come to discover that music actually gets the kids more pumped. They play harder and have more fun which is better for everyone. We have a lot of options for P.E. so there's a little something for everybody. And this is all benefiting to them and will help them in the future even if they don't realize it right now.

cjL»| \£* ^ T^r fa~1^ £n^ ^#A; $JJ*¥*- ^u^^x Juniors The class of 2012 enjoyed their first year as uperclassmen; whether it was sleeping in during OGT week, expempting their midterm exams, or moving up to the varsity level in their favorite sport, new privilages seemed to be everywhere. The year wasn't without its challenges. For many, junior year was their first experience with AP and Dual Credit classes in an effort to put together an impressive transcript before applying for college. 2011 also brought on the first brush with the ACT and SAT, proving what teachers had been saying all along - standardized testing really doesn't end with the OGTs. By the end of the year, the junior class got a taste of what it would be like to be leade, and role models after the senior; graduated. With the end of thei^ high school years finally iq sight, the juniors prepared toi take on the school - and even college - in 2012.

So Fresh, So Clean, So 2013." This is our theme and it fits us very well. We all know being a Sophomore is tough. We are not Freshman, but we're not quite upperclassmen either. Although, we can not wait to be a part of the upperclassmen. This year was really hard for everyone. The OGT's were scary, but we all did our best and tried hard, and it paid off. Plus, all the other stressful and sad things that have happened this year. I think we all did a pretty good job to be there for everyone and help each other out. Especially our fellow classmen, Taylor Bates. She has done an amazing job helping people and making sure we all knew she was there for us. And we should do the same and show the underclassmen what we're all about. We are the future and the Freshman underclassmen look up to us. So next year, when we are officially upperclassmen, we should set the example and show everyone what the class of 2013 is all about.

Shannon was a wonderful girl who was extremely talented and unique in many ways. She knew how to brighten up anyone's day, no matter what the situation. She always had a smile on her face and was an outgoing person. She loved to play violin, sing, go four-wheeling, hunt, read, and listen to music. She was also active in both choir and orchestra. We'll always remember Shannon for her carefree attitude and sense of humor. Shannon touched the hearts of many at AHS, and she will live through our memories.
